Chapter 303-Maybe Cheating On Me
Theodore:
When I went back to Gigi, Jaguar was already there.
For a second, I thought maybe she’d told him.
The way she was sobbing in his arms made me wonder.
And I don’t know why, but when I saw Jaguar hugging her, for the first time ever, it suddenly felt a little too intimate.
But then I had to force those thoughts out of my mind.
That one incident had completely dirtied my mind. Now I was looking at everything the wrong way.
When she grabbed my hand, I felt a little relieved because I realized she wasn’t angry with me.
No, she had her own troubles.
That was how naive she was. Within seconds, she could forget about the disaster we’d had only a few hours ago.
Well, to be completely honest, she wasn’t wrong.
Ragnar really hadn’t told anyone.
He was an Alpha King. There was no way he hadn’t felt the mate bond.
So when the doctor said that he must have felt it, Ragnar should have come forward and made it clear who the bond was with, where it had happened, and what his intentions were.
Instead, knowing Ragnar, he’d simply kept everything to himself.
I felt bad for Gigi.
After comforting her, we told her that if she didn’t want Ragnar to think she was the one suspecting him, then she shouldn’t be the one to confront him about it.
As his brothers, we could do that.
We could fight and argue, and by the end of the day, we’d still sit together and have a drink.
That was how close we were.
The biggest shock came the moment we got home, when Verity bumped into my brother Jaguar.
And the very first thing she said was that Ragnar had been chasing her.
There was no fear or anger in her voice. If anything, she sounded playful.
And guess where she’d been coming from at that odd hour of the night?
Ragnar’s bedroom.
After she walked away, we headed toward Ragnar’s room too.
"You know, when I was leaving, she was outside her room. I told her I was going to Gigi’s place and that you were already there too," Jaguar stated casually.
But the hair on the back of my neck stood up.
So she knew we weren’t going to come home all night, and maybe that was why she was with Ragnar?
I immediately shut down that thought as we reached Ragnar’s door.
I knocked first.
"Well, come inside."
Ragnar’s voice came from inside, sounding a little exhausted.
As soon as we opened the door, Jaguar and I exchanged a glance.
Ragnar was getting dressed, pulling his shirt back on.
"Oh, you two are home?" he asked, sounding more confused than anything.
"Yeah—." I tried to speak, but the words tangled in my mouth.
I glanced at Jaguar again, and it seemed like he’d noticed it too.
"Yeah, we just wanted to let you know we’re home and say goodnight," I said, giving Ragnar a smile.
I’d heard he’d been asking about me.
"Okay, goodnight," he replied.
We both walked out, and Jaguar was the first to speak.
"Ragnar was naked when Verity came out of his bedroom. Why? Why was he naked? What were they doing?"
His questions were valid.
For him, it was shocking because Ragnar was our brother, and he was dating someone we cared about, Gigi.
For me, it was worse because it wasn’t only about Gigi.
It was about my feelings too.
So if Ragnar was cheating on Gigi, then Verity was cheating on me.
I immediately shook my head.
"There has to be an explanation, though," I said as we walked toward our bedrooms.
But when we reached the hallway outside his bedroom, we both stopped.
"Yeah, but remember what Gigi was saying?" Jaguar asked.
A strange silence settled between us, like we’d both acknowledged the same possibility.
Like the answer was right there in front of us, but we couldn’t completely piece it together because neither of us was willing to believe what we were thinking.
As we stood facing each other, both lost deep in thought, another frightening possibility struck me.
And before I could stop myself, it slipped out of my mouth.
"You know, Verity was with him when the doctor said he must have found his mate," I mumbled with difficulty, watching my brother’s eyes widen.
"What are you insinuating?" Jaguar asked.
"I’m just saying that–" I paused.
"You think she’s his mate?"
As soon as my brother said that, I immediately shook my head.
"No, no, no. That’s not what I mean," I said with a nervous laugh. "What I think is that maybe she knows. Maybe there’s something going on. That’s why she’s hiding the truth because, well, she’s also getting–"
I looked away, rubbing the back of my neck.
"Favors?" The word left my mouth in barely more than a whisper.
"That would be horrible," Jaguar said. "I mean, they can’t do that to Gigi."
He avoided my eyes as he anxiously ran a hand through his hair.
"Yeah, right. They can’t do that to Gigi," I said, agreeing with him.
But deep down, what I really wanted to say was, she couldn’t do that to me.
She was the one woman I’d fallen in love with.
She was the first woman I’d been willing to change myself for.
How could she do this to me?
"Maybe we’re just thinking too much into it. How about we get some rest and start investigating in the morning?" Jaguar said to me, and I nodded.
The scary part was that I didn’t believe it.
I didn’t believe there was nothing going on.
Now that I really thought about it, there had to be something.
I’d be a fool to believe nothing had happened.
There was no ignoring Verity running out of Ragnar’s room, saying he was chasing her again while sounding strangely playful.
And at the same time, Ragnar had been completely naked.
Why would she be in his room while he was naked?
There was no way to justify that.
