Chapter 278: John Constantine

Chapter 278: Chapter 277 : John Constantine

“So, what should we do with her?” Diana asked, looking at Rachel, whose eyes were completely black. Rachel was still struggling against the Lasso of Truth while cursing at both of them.

“Fuck you, Daniel! You think this is funny? Let me go, you fucking asshole!”

Daniel looked at her for a moment. “She’s definitely in a good mood.”

“Fuck off!” Rachel snapped.

“Not sure,” Daniel said, ignoring her. “Dealing with this isn’t my specialty. My specialty is chopping things up and killing them.”

Rachel glared at him. “Then go chop your own fucking head off!”

Daniel looked at Diana. “See what I mean?”

“Do you think Themyscira has anyone who could help her control this?”

“No. We’re warriors, not magic people,” Diana replied. “The Amazons know about the gods and some ancient rituals, but this is different.”

Daniel glanced at Rachel again as she continued muttering curses at him.

“Yeah, if we sent her to the Amazons, they’d probably see the black eyes and demonic energy and decide she’s some kind of dark creature.”

Diana gave him a look.

Daniel shrugged. “I’m just saying, I don’t think bringing a teenage girl possessed by a demon to an island full of warrior women is going to end peacefully.”

“Rachel, why don’t you just push that demon back down and come home with us?” Daniel said, trying to reason with her. “We’ll grab some dinner, and I’ll even let you have a whole tub of ice cream. Deal?”

Rachel suddenly jerked against the lasso and glared at him.

“Do you seriously think I’m a fucking kid?” she snapped. “I’ll rip your throat out and drink your blood!”

Daniel stared at her for a second.

“Okay. So we’re not at the ice-cream stage yet.”

“Fuck you!”

“Yeah, I figured you’d say that.”

Rachel pulled against the lasso again. “Let me go, you asshole! I’ll tear you apart!”

Daniel glanced at Diana. “You know, I was expecting the demon thing to be difficult. I wasn’t expecting the teenage attitude to come with it.”

Diana gave him a tired look. “She’s still Rachel.”

“Yeah, that’s the problem.” Daniel looked back at Rachel. “Rachel, seriously. Fight it. You don’t have to let it control you.”

Rachel’s black eyes narrowed.

“I’ll fight you first.”

Daniel sighed and looked at Diana. “Diana, lend me your lasso for a while. I’ll have to find someone who can teach Rachel how to control her powers. Otherwise, she’s eventually going to kill somebody.”

Diana looked at him. “Do you know someone?”

Daniel started going through everyone he knew in his head. Batman was out. Superman was definitely out, especially with everything going on with him. The Flash team wasn’t equipped for this either. Cisco could analyze the problem, but he couldn’t teach Rachel how to control demonic powers. Cyborg? No.

“Fuck, I don’t know any magician who can deal with this kind of mess.”

Daniel paused.

Then another name suddenly came to mind.

There was one magician in this universe who dealt with demons, curses, and supernatural bullshit for a living. More importantly, demons absolutely hated the guy.

Daniel looked at Diana.

“Wait. I know someone.”

“Who?”

Daniel gave a tired smile.

“John Constantine.”

***

In a completely messed-up apartment, John Constantine was sleeping on an old sofa with an empty whiskey bottle hanging from one hand. The room smelled like cigarettes, alcohol, and whatever terrible decision he’d made the night before.

As usual, his daily routine had been drinking until he passed out and waking up whenever something annoyed him.

Today, that annoyance came with a loud crash.

BANG!

The front door was smashed off its hinges and flew across the room.

“Sorry for the intrusion,” Daniel said as he casually stepped inside.

Constantine slowly opened one eye, looked at the destroyed door, and then pushed himself off the sofa without even looking at Daniel properly.

“You know how much that bloody door costs?”

Daniel blinked.

Constantine pointed toward the broken door.

“Solid royal oak. Custom made. Cost me a bloody fortune.”

He walked over, picked up a loose piece of wood, and sighed dramatically.

“And it had a celebrity autograph on it too. That doubles the value.”

Daniel stood there silently.

Constantine finally looked at him for the first time.

“You break it, you pay for it.”

Daniel’s mouth twitched slightly.

This bastard started scamming me before even asking who I am.

He had literally broken into the man’s apartment to ask for help, and the first thing John Constantine did was try charging him for a door that probably wasn’t worth half of what he claimed.

Daniel scratched his cheek.

“…Are you always this shameless?”

Constantine lit a cigarette, took one puff, and answered without hesitation.

“Only when someone’s rich enough to afford it.”

“Well, I need some help,” Daniel said.

Constantine didn’t even hesitate. “I’m not running a bloody charity. Whatever you need, it’ll cost you. And after smashing my door, you’re paying ten thousand dollars before I help you.”

Daniel looked at him for a moment before reaching into his pocket.

“Well, I have one sweet offer for you.”

He tossed a coin into the air.

Constantine caught it without thinking.

The coin was completely black, with a D symbol and a scythe engraved across it. The moment Constantine touched it, he could feel the power inside. His expression changed slightly as he examined it.

This wasn’t an ordinary magical object. Whatever had created it was powerful enough that even Constantine didn’t want to underestimate it.

“That coin is your payment,” Daniel said. “Use it, and you can avoid death once. It’s a guaranteed revival. You die, the coin brings you back.”

Constantine looked at the coin again before slipping it into his pocket.

“Heh. As expected. God’s pockets are always full.”

Daniel raised an eyebrow.

“You knew who I was, and you still tried to scam me?”

Constantine shrugged as he lit another cigarette.

“Has to live, doesn’t it?”
