Chapter 324: They’re an Interesting Group
Hanzo, upon hearing the offer, didn't immediately respond. But a few days later, he finally agreed to the agreement. Now, the Akatsuki, led by Yahiko, Nagato, and Konan, had begun to truly cultivate fish.
They sought peace not just through weapons, but through trade routes—tying other villages to their own needs, thus making Amegakure a region impervious to war.
Aoki, reading the report, paused for a moment. His gaze lingered on the writing on the paper, his lips slightly parted, as if he were trying to make sure he hadn't misread.
Then, without warning, Aoki laughed—not just a chuckle, but a full-blown laugh, a laugh that echoed throughout the room and abruptly changed the atmosphere.
Kurisu, watching, suddenly fell silent. Her brow furrowed, her eyes narrowed suspiciously. Inside, she couldn't help but think that perhaps, after being gone for several months… Aoki had finally lost his sanity.
“Hey,” Aoki’s voice cut through the silence, his tone casual yet clear, as if he’d read Kurisu’s mind. “I can guess what you’re thinking. I’m not crazy.”
He looked at Kurisu with a smile, a smile that held both confidence and a hint of self-satisfaction. “Do you remember, all this time I’ve been asking you to monitor Amegakure Village?”
“Uhm… yes, I remember,” Kurisu replied, nodding her head slowly. Kurisu’s gaze was still scrutinizing Aoki, trying to find any sign that what she was seeing was truly sane.
“That,” Aoki continued, placing the file on the table, his fingers lightly tapping on the cover, “is because while I was away for a few months, I actually went to Amegakure… and met with the higher-ups of the Akatsuki Organization.”
Aoki’s eyes hardened, but a faint smile remained on his lips. “There, I advised them to stop being troublemakers and to do something more virtuous—namely, to become fish farmers and engage in trade with other villages.”
Where Aoki stood, he slowly walked around the table, his tone becoming more determined. "This way, we'll not only build relationships with other villages, but also tie them economically to Amegakure. This will prevent Amegakure from becoming a war zone. Because if Amegakure were to go to war, their fish trade would be impossible."
Aoki stared directly at Kurisu, a glint of satisfaction flashing in his eyes. "Besides, this trade will boost Amegakure's economy. And... that's why I laughed when I saw the information you provided."
At Aoki's faint smile, she then lifted her chin slightly. "Because this... is exactly the idea I suggested to the Akatsuki higher-ups."
"So that's how it is... the Chairman has made a suggestion, and they're doing exactly as he suggested." Kurisu tilted her head slightly, her brows furrowed, and Kurisu then stared intently at Aoki with a puzzled expression. "But... why is the Chairman so interested in this organization?"
“Hmm…” Aoki sighed softly, his fingers tapping lightly on the table surface.
“They’re an interesting group. Although… I’m not sure if they’ll survive…” Aoki said quietly, but his tone held something hard to describe—a mix of awe and worry.
Aoki’s gaze then fell on the file on the table, his gaze deep, as if he were looking through the pages to see far into the future.
Aoki knew exactly what he knew—something no one else in the room possessed. In the original Naruto storyline that Aoki remembered, Yahiko was stabbed to death by Nagato. This incident occurred because of threats from Hanzo, the Ame ninja, and the Konoha ninja.
