Chapter 107: My Sylveon Has Champion Potential
Amaura was a Rock- and Ice-type Pokémon.
That meant Fighting-type moves dealt quadruple damage to her.
Korrina didn't understand why Sora had chosen such a matchup.
But even if Sora was intentionally holding back—she still wanted to win!
"Don't stop."
Sora remained perfectly calm because there was simply no reason to worry.
This round—
he had already won.
"Awooo~~~"
Amaura continued maintaining Icy Wind.
Watching Machoke steadily push through the snowstorm toward her, she began to panic slightly.
Step by step.
Fifteen meters.
Ten meters.
Closer…
'That should be enough.'
Seeing that Machoke had already applied sufficient pressure to Amaura, Sora slightly curled his lips upward.
"Maximum power—Aurora Beam!!"
Level 28 Amaura only knew a limited number of moves.
This Aurora Beam would only have two possible outcomes.
Either Machoke failed to endure it and collapsed immediately—
or it barely survived with a sliver of health, then used the briefly enhanced Strength move from Bulk Up to punch Amaura directly.
And with Amaura's physical durability—
she absolutely wouldn't survive that hit.
She'd instantly lose combat capability.
"Awooo!!"
Amaura refused to give up.
Pouring every ounce of strength into the attack, she unleashed an icy-blue beam that forcefully halted Machoke's advance.
Crack crack crack—
Ice rapidly spread across Machoke's body.
Finally—
when the distance between the two sides shrank to roughly two meters—
Machoke completely froze in place, unable to advance another inch.
"I lost…"
Korrina clenched her fists tightly, deeply regretting this battle.
"I shouldn't have used Bulk Up."
She truly hadn't expected the cause of her first defeat to be that opening setup move.
"You focused too much on this child's strength."
Sora recalled the exhausted Amaura and gently stroked the little dinosaur's head in praise.
"That made you lose control of the battle rhythm and rush too desperately to close the perceived gap."
"That's true."
Korrina began using thaw spray to free Machoke from the ice.
"I completely misjudged Amaura's strength."
Icy Wind.
Aurora Beam.
Machoke had really suffered this round.
Fortunately, Pokémon bodies were absurdly durable.
As long as enough energy was replenished afterward, injuries like this weren't a problem.
"I thought she'd be much stronger."
"I didn't expect my Machoke to actually be the stronger one."
"I seriously miscalculated…"
Because of all the Legendary Pokémon surrounding Sora, Korrina had subconsciously assumed every Pokémon he sent out would massively outlevel her own.
That was why she'd specifically opened with Bulk Up to reduce the stat gap.
And with a thirty-meter starting distance, Machoke absolutely had enough room to interrupt Bulk Up and dodge if necessary.
The real issue had been the sudden temperature drop caused by Icy Wind.
Korrina had anticipated incoming attacks and prepared dodge commands.
What she hadn't anticipated was how the battlefield temperature itself would affect Machoke's body.
"Did Senior predict that I'd use Bulk Up?"
If that were true, Sora would be terrifying.
That level of prediction…
It would mean even Korrina's misjudgment had been part of his calculations.
"No, I'm not some master strategist."
Sora shook his head.
"At most, after seeing Machoke use Bulk Up, I decided to try lowering its body temperature."
Pokémon battles were unpredictable.
How could Sora possibly know exactly what his opponent planned to do?
But he had studied Ice-type moves.
He knew sudden temperature drops could negatively impact enemies even without direct hits.
Indirect interference was still interference.
Though this wasn't the first time he'd considered the concept—
it was the first time he'd successfully applied it in practice.
"So amazing."
Korrina nodded vigorously.
"I learned another new trick today. This is really exciting."
"Your reactions were fast too."
Sora continued:
"The moment you realized Machoke had fallen behind, you immediately committed to offense, even forcing it to push through Icy Wind just for a chance to defeat the opponent."
"At this stage of Trainer battles, you're already very impressive, Korrina."
And Machoke trusted Korrina deeply.
Facing the freezing storm head-on, it never hesitated.
If Amaura's level had been just a little lower, Machoke really might have won.
Though naturally, it wouldn't have had much stamina left afterward.
"It's not that amazing…"
Korrina scratched her cheek awkwardly.
"In battles, there's no time to overthink things. You just have to commit and go for it."
"Anyway, let's continue."
Korrina quickly regained her fighting spirit.
She'd already made one mistake.
She wouldn't make a second.
"This time, let's have a proper head-on battle!"
Setup moves?
Totally unnecessary!
In fast-paced combat, if one side didn't begin boosting first, the opponent usually wouldn't get the chance either.
Generally speaking—using enhancement moves meant exposing yourself to attacks.
Compared to direct offensive moves, setup was simply too slow.
"A proper head-on battle, huh…"
Sora said nothing outwardly.
But internally, he thought:
'Sorry, young lady.'
'That first match was your only chance.'
Amaura had only recently joined the team and still wasn't strong enough yet.
Defeat was possible for her.
But next up—
was Sylveon.
In actual battles, Sylveon had already defeated Princess Magearna's own Sylveon despite being over fifty levels lower.
Her strength had long surpassed what mere level numbers could define.
Regarding that—
Sora only wanted to say one thing:
"My Sylveon has champion potential!"
"Mienshao."
"Yoyo!"
Mienshao was a weasel-like Pokémon that stood upright.
Its body was primarily yellow, making it look almost like a martial arts apprentice wearing oversized sleeves.
"This Mienshao's level is surprisingly high."
Sora wasn't particularly familiar with Mienshao's evolutionary line.
Before transmigrating, the Pokémon roster had already exceeded a thousand species.
No one could know every single one perfectly.
Even so, Sora still sensed something unusual about this Mienshao.
Its level was excessively high.
The previous Machoke had probably been no higher than Level 33.
But this Mienshao—
was at least above Level 40.
'That high level and it still hasn't evolved into Mienshao's final form?'
This misunderstanding was Sora's fault.
He didn't know Mienfoo only evolved into Mienshao at Level 50.
In other words—
despite not being fully evolved yet,
this Mienfoo still absolutely couldn't be underestimated thanks to its level alone.
"Sylveon, your turn."
Sora instructed:
"No need to rush. Give this child some room to perform."
"Bui~~"
As the second fighter, Sylveon had already become restless watching Amaura's battle earlier.
But hearing Sora's words—was this supposed to be a teaching match?
Seriously?
Sylveon looked suspiciously toward Sora.
The latter simply nodded slightly.
"Yes."
"It's a teaching match."
