The Heretic's Mana-Bound Sanctuary

Chapter 65: Breaking of the Righteous

For three days and three nights, the Celestial Fold echoed with the rhythmic, sickening hum of the Altar of Blasphemy.

Time in this dimension was conceptually fractured, but the psychological toll was universally linear. Kaelen did not rush. Every few hours, Lyriel’s shadow-detachment would emerge from the gray static of the void, dragging another struggling, weeping celestial scribe or stranded minor angel from the floating ruins.

They were dragged up the obsidian steps. The violet light flared. The Truth-Wards of the Sphere of Judgment violently spiked in response, attempting to crush the malice with invisible, conceptual gravity. But the altar merely swallowed the divine pressure, converting it into raw alchemical fuel while the victim was unmade into fine, gray ash.

Kaelen sat upon his dark throne, his chin resting on his knuckles, his pitch-black eyes fixed entirely on the golden battlements of the dome.

"They are vibrating, Master," Ariel observed softly.

The Abyssal Valkyrie stood at his right side, her corrupted blue eyes effortlessly piercing the distance. Through the shimmering barrier of the Tier 9 Truth-Wards, she could see the Third Choir holding their rigid formation on the walls. But the pristine perfection was gone. The Inquisitors were gripping their solar-spears so tightly their knuckles were white. The golden blindfolds that covered their eyes—items permanently fused to their flesh to represent absolute, blind justice—were glowing with a volatile, aggressive heat.

"An oath is a physical shackle to an angel," Seraphina added, stepping up to Kaelen’s left. The Eclipse Vanguard leaned against her massive greatsword, a knowing, predatory smirk on her lips. "I remember the feeling. When you swear yourself to the light, to witness heresy and do nothing physically burns your core. High Arbiter Cassius is ordering them to hold the line, but their own souls are tearing themselves apart from the inaction."

"The Arbiter is pragmatic," he rumbled, a dark resonance vibrating in his chest. "He knows that if he drops the dome, my Brutes will flood his courtyard. He is willing to sacrifice the stranded citizens to maintain the siege."

"But his soldiers are not," Lyriel purred, melting flawlessly out of Kaelen’s shadow to present a silver tray. Resting upon it was a crystal goblet filled with deep, rich wine plundered from a celestial estate.

He took the goblet, lazily swirling the crimson liquid. "A zealot’s greatest weakness is their own self-righteousness. It makes them entirely predictable."

At the base of the altar, Elara Valerius was entirely lost in her manic genius. The Entropic Matrix had transformed the edge of the obsidian cliff into a localized nightmare of dark alchemy. Floating beakers of superheated void-plasma bubbled aggressively, connected by ethereal tubes of glowing violet data.

"The ambient fuel is stabilizing, Master!" Elara giggled, wiping a streak of black soot from her pale, branded cheek. Her churning, alchemical eyes darted across a floating array of complex runic equations. "The scribes provide excellent neutral mana, but their conceptual weight is too light. To finalize the cloaks for the entire army, I still require the actual blindfolds of the Inquisitors. I need the heavy, concentrated law woven into their fabric."

"Patience, Elara," he commanded smoothly, taking a slow sip of his wine. "They are coming."

As if responding to his absolute authority, the gray static of the Celestial Fold violently shifted.

A deafening, high-frequency chime shattered the silence. It didn’t come from the altar; it came from the Sphere of Judgment. The colossal, shimmering dome of woven light violently rippled. At the absolute center of the bridge, the Tier 9 Truth-Wards flickered, opening a narrow, localized aperture.

"Treachery!" a voice boomed, amplified by raw, aggressive holy mana.

From the golden gates of the fortress, a detachment of twelve Inquisitors charged out onto the bridge of light. They had broken formation. They had defied the High Arbiter’s orders. Their golden blindfolds blazed like miniature suns, and they wielded massive, two-handed executioner swords forged from solidified starlight.

"You will profane this holy realm no longer, Heretic!" the Lead Inquisitor roared, leading the charge directly toward the Altar of Blasphemy. "By the absolute law of the Third Choir, your soul is condemned to the deep void!"

The thousands of Void-iron Brutes standing in formation along the obsidian plains immediately shifted, raising their massive trench-maces to intercept the charge.

"Hold," he commanded, his voice echoing through the telepathic link with intoxicating gravity.

The entire Abyssal army instantly froze, flawlessly obedient.

He didn’t stand up. He casually rested his goblet on the arm of his throne and looked at his Vanguard.

"Seraphina. Lyriel," the Emperor ordered, a deeply malicious smile spreading across his face. "Do not damage the blindfolds."

"With pleasure, my Sovereign," Seraphina hissed, her corrupted golden eyes dilating with pure bloodlust.

The Eclipse Vanguard didn’t just run; she violently asserted her dominance over the physical space. She launched herself off the altar, crossing the distance to the bridge in a single, catastrophic heartbeat. She landed directly in front of the charging Lead Inquisitor, the hyper-dense gravity of her Level 105 Ascendant core actively cracking the woven light beneath her boots.

The Inquisitor swung his massive starlight executioner sword in a devastating horizontal arc.

Seraphina didn’t block. She simply reached out with her bare, dragon-glass gauntlet and aggressively caught the blade of pure light. The holy fire actively melted against her hyper-dense void-armor, completely unable to penetrate her absolute defense. The Inquisitor gasped, his glowing blindfold widening in sheer, mind-breaking shock.

"Condemned to the deep void?" Seraphina smirked, her voice dripping with sadistic amusement. "I am the void."

She violently twisted her wrist, completely shattering the celestial sword into a million harmless sparks. Before the angel could retreat, Seraphina drove the pommel of the Eclipse Breaker directly into his solar plexus, flawlessly collapsing his divine core without touching his head.

Simultaneously, Lyriel struck.

The Void-Stalker didn’t engage in a frontal assault. She utilized the localized blind spots of reality itself. She melted perfectly into the shadow cast by Seraphina’s massive figure and instantly reappeared behind three of the charging Inquisitors.

Her movements were terrifyingly fluid. She didn’t use her void-diamond arm blades; she used absolute, surgical precision. Lyriel’s pale hands darted out, her fingers coated in a localized, paralyzing Wyrm-Blight. She struck the pressure points at the base of their celestial necks.

The three Inquisitors violently stiffened, their holy mana instantly freezing as they collapsed face-first onto the bridge, completely paralyzed.

The remaining eight Inquisitors desperately tried to halt their charge, realizing in a fraction of a second that they were not fighting mortals, but true Demigods of the Abyss.

"Retreat! Fall back to the dome!" one of them screamed, turning to run.

"The Emperor did not grant you permission to leave," Ariel’s voice echoed from above.

The Abyssal Valkyrie dropped from the sky, her six massive shadow-wings violently slamming into the bridge. The sheer, freezing kinetic force of her landing generated a localized shockwave of pure entropy. The eight fleeing Inquisitors were aggressively thrown off their feet, their bodies sliding across the frictionless light directly back toward the base of the altar.

In less than ten seconds, the detachment of Level 112 elite angels had been entirely routed, paralyzed, and broken without Kaelen ever leaving his seat.

The twelve Inquisitors were violently dragged up the obsidian steps by the Brutes and forced to their knees before Kaelen’s throne.

"You... you are a monster," the Lead Inquisitor choked out, coughing up golden blood as he stared up at the dark sovereign. "The Arbiter... he will..."

"The Arbiter will do exactly what he is doing now," he interrupted smoothly. "He will watch."

He looked past the bleeding angels, his pitch-black eyes locking onto the golden silhouette of High Arbiter Cassius standing perfectly still on the distant battlements. Cassius had the power to fully open the dome and save his men, but doing so would doom his entire fortress to the waiting army of Brutes.

The Arbiter chose his fortress. The aperture snapped shut.

Kaelen smiled—a cold, world-ending expression of absolute victory.

"Elara," he commanded.

The Forge-Master practically skipped up the altar steps, giggling maniacally as she produced a hyper-dense, alchemical scalpel of pure void-diamond.

"Hold them still, Brutes!" Elara ordered, her eyes churning with dark data. "I need the conceptual fabric completely intact!"

He leaned back, picking up his goblet of wine as Elara began her surgical harvest. The agonizing screams of the Inquisitors echoed perfectly across the Celestial Fold.

"Hold their heads up," he commanded smoothly, taking a slow sip of the crimson wine as his gaze remained fixed on the distant battlements. "I want the Arbiter to see exactly what happens to martyrs."
