The Heretic's Mana-Bound Sanctuary

Chapter 55: Two Gates Down

The golden staircase leading to the Second Sphere of Heaven spanned for miles. It was a flawless, architectural marvel designed to inspire absolute awe and subservience in the souls permitted to ascend it.

But as Kaelen began his march, the divine staircase actively screamed.

With every heavy step his Void-Steel boots took, the pristine gold violently rusted, fracturing into jagged shards of frictionless black glass. The oppressive, god-like gravity of his Level 100 Abyssal Demigod core dragged the darkness of the First Sphere directly up the steps with him, completely infecting the physical pathway.

At the summit stood the Gates of Virtues.

They were not merely doors. They were colossal, mile-high physical manifestations of the Goddess Aurelia’s Divine Law. Woven from concentrated, solidified holy mana, the gates emitted a blinding, impenetrable aura meant to repel any entity harboring even a fraction of dark intent.

Behind this indestructible boundary, the Second Choir waited in absolute silence.

Fifty thousand heavily armored Cherubim formed a flawless, impenetrable phalanx. These were not the swift, agile Sentinels of the First Sphere. The Cherubim were Level 110 siege defenders, clad in thick, interlocking plates of star-metal. Mounted on the high battlements behind the gate were hundreds of massive Celestial Ballistas, currently humming with volatile, highly compressed solar fire.

"Steady the artillery!" the Cherubim Commander’s voice echoed across the golden battlements, his massive tower shield glowing with divine wards. "The Heretic approaches! The Gates of Divine Law cannot be breached, but we will incinerate his vanguard the moment he steps into range! Draw!"

The massive ballistas violently clicked into place, locking their blinding sights onto the ascending darkness.

"They are aiming for the Brutes, Emperor," Ariel’s voice whispered through the Abyssal Trinity telepathic link.

He didn’t stop walking. He didn’t even look up at the towering artillery. He simply kept his glowing, pitch-black eyes fixed entirely on the massive gates of light.

"Take their eyes, Valkyrie," he commanded smoothly.

Ariel launched herself from the obsidian staircase like a dark meteor. The Abyssal Valkyrie shot directly into the suffocating, holy atmosphere of the Second Sphere. The Cherubim Commander’s eyes widened in absolute shock as he recognized the former Dawn-Bringer, now radiating a terrifying, freezing void aura.

"Fire!" the Commander screamed, panicking. "Bring her down!"

Hundreds of Celestial Ballistas unleashed a devastating barrage of concentrated solar fire. The sky violently lit up, a blinding wall of heat designed to instantly vaporize any target.

Ariel didn’t dodge. She simply opened her arms and aggressively unfurled her six massive shadow-wings.

"Absolute Eclipse."

The light didn’t just fail; it was violently suffocated. Ariel’s Level 105 corrupted core passively devoured the solar fire, snuffing out the massive artillery bolts instantly. The terrifying, freezing darkness bleeding from her wings rapidly expanded, physically blotting out the radiant sky above the Cherubim phalanx.

Total, absolute pitch-black darkness crashed down over the fifty thousand angels.

"I can’t see!" a Cherubim screamed, desperately raising his shield.

"The light! The light is dead!"

Complete, unadulterated panic ripped through the flawless divine formation. The angels broke ranks, blindly bumping into one another as Ariel’s suffocating aura actively froze the holy mana in their veins.

Down on the staircase, Kaelen finally reached the summit.

He stood directly before the towering, mile-high Gates of Virtues. The physical manifestation of the Goddess’s absolute law aggressively pushed back against him, the raw holy energy searing the air. It was a barrier that no mortal weapon or spell could ever hope to scratch.

He didn’t draw a sword.

"The law of the Goddess," he murmured, his multi-tonal voice vibrating with pure, unadulterated malice. "Is repealed."

He raised his right hand and gently pressed his bare palm directly against the impenetrable wall of solid light.

Kaelen tapped into the assimilated Divine Authority of Archangel Uriel. But he didn’t summon it in the sky. He summoned it directly at the point of contact.

"Void-Flare."

A hyper-dense, localized black sun violently tore itself into existence directly inside the matrix of the divine gates. The catastrophic, absolute heat of pure entropy aggressively collided with the solidified holy law.

The reaction was apocalyptic.

The indestructible Gates of Virtues didn’t just shatter—they screamed. The mile-high structure of woven light violently melted, turning into a cataclysmic tidal wave of boiling, corrupted slag that aggressively flooded inward.

The massive wave of boiling holy-void plasma crashed directly into the blinded, panicked ranks of the Cherubim phalanx.

Thousands of Level 110 angels were instantly vaporized, their heavy star-metal armor melting directly into their flesh before their divine cores were entirely eradicated.

[Party Kill: Celestial Cherubim (Level 110) x 14,500. +150,000,000 EXP.]

The impenetrable choke point had been completely blown wide open.

He lowered his hand, the black sun dissipating back into his skin. He looked through the massive, melting breach at the surviving, terrified angels scrambling desperately in the dark.

"Seraphina," the Demigod commanded, his dark aura rapidly expanding to claim the new territory. "Clean the floor."

"With pleasure, Master!"

Seraphina charged through the breach, a golden-eyed blur of unadulterated violence. Behind her, the ten thousand Abyssal Brutes flooded into the Second Sphere.

The Brutes swung their massive trench-maces. Thanks to Elara’s manic genius, the weapons were heavily modified with the shattered celestial cores from the First Sphere. When the black iron struck the Cherubim shields, the volatile mixture of dark alchemy and holy mana violently detonated.

BOOM!

The localized kinetic explosions instantly shattered the heavily armored defenders, sending severed angelic limbs and golden blood raining across the pristine white marble of the Second Sphere.

Lyriel didn’t bother with the foot soldiers. The elven assassin melted into the absolute darkness cast by Ariel’s eclipse, reappearing exclusively on the high battlements. She moved with terrifying, fluid perfection, violently driving her Wyrm-Blight daggers into the throats of the Cherubim artillery commanders before they could even attempt to blindly reload their weapons.

[Party Kill: Cherubim Commander (Level 112) x 40. +800,000 EXP.]

The massacre was absolute. The Second Choir, designed to be the ultimate, immovable shield of the heavens, was being aggressively slaughtered by a force that completely ignored the fundamental laws of their reality.

Kaelen walked slowly through the melting breach, completely ignoring the chaotic, deafening sounds of slaughter echoing around him. He walked to the center of the massive courtyard, the hyper-dense void mana actively rolling off his broad shoulders in thick, suffocating waves.

As the last Cherubim fell, his chest violently cleaved in half by Seraphina’s Eclipse Breaker, the golden sky above finally began to violently warp and rot.

The glowing blue text of the System exploded across Kaelen’s vision, chiming with world-shaking intensity.

[Massive Experience Threshold Met!]

[Level Up! You are now Level 101.]

[Level Up! You are now Level 103.]

[Level Up! You are now Level 105.]

The sheer, impossible density of Kaelen’s new levels sent a localized shockwave through the Second Sphere, violently shattering the remaining defensive towers and completely glassing the marble floor.

[System Notification: The Gates of Divine Law have been assimilated.] [Territorial Override Complete. The Second Heaven is now permanently designated as Floor 17 of the Obsidian Labyrinth.] [Quest Reward Claimed: Domain Expansion - ’Abyssal Firmament’.]

He took a deep, heavy breath. The infinite, cooling ocean of absolute power flooded his spiritual pathways, syncing perfectly with the four women who were now rapidly converging on his position.

Seraphina, Ariel, and Lyriel knelt perfectly at his boots, their armor dripping with divine blood. Elara stepped through the breach behind them, her spatial rings already aggressively pulling in the ambient loot from the slaughtered fifty thousand.

"The Second Choir is entirely eradicated, Emperor," Seraphina reported, her chest heaving with euphoric exhaustion. "The floor is yours."

"It always was," he smirked, looking up past the rotting architecture toward the distant, shimmering golden clouds of the Third Sphere. "Two gates down. The parasite’s throne room is getting awfully close."
