Chapter 54: Black Sun
The Silver Threshold was no longer a realm of pure, woven light. It was a monument to the Abyss.
As the Dungeon’s leylines forcefully anchored themselves to the dimensional fabric of heaven, the infinite expanse of pristine crystal clouds violently rotted. They churned into a sea of jagged obsidian glass and thick, suffocating violet nebulae. The towering, golden spires of the celestial architecture were actively melting, reforming into brutalist, pitch-black obelisks that pulsed with Kaelen’s heartbeat.
The First Sphere of Heaven had officially been digested.
At the center of the corrupted plains, Kaelen sat leisurely upon a newly formed throne of jagged dark crystal. He wore his unbuttoned black tunic, his physical form practically overflowing with the terrifying, absolute density of his Level 100 Demigod core.
A few yards away, Elara Valerius was in a state of absolute, manic bliss.
The Forge-Master was crawling over the blackened glass, gleefully plucking the shattered, fist-sized divine cores from the rotting corpses of the three hundred fallen Celestial Sentinels. Her spatial rings were practically bursting with high-tier celestial crafting materials.
"The purity of these matrices is disgusting, Master," Elara reported, wiping a smear of golden angelic blood from her flushed cheek. "But once I synthesize them with void-coal, they will become perfect localized mana batteries. I can upgrade the Brutes’ trench-maces with holy-corrosive kinetic blasts!"
"Do it," he commanded smoothly, resting his chin on his knuckles. "The Goddess will not send foot soldiers to the next gate. She will send heavy artillery. We need our vanguard to hit harder."
"By your will, Master," she bowed perfectly, rushing back to her makeshift alchemical station.
From the shifting shadows behind the throne, Ariel emerged.
The Abyssal Valkyrie stepped smoothly into Kaelen’s peripheral vision, her six massive shadow-wings folded elegantly behind her back. She looked out at the corrupted horizon of her former home. For a thousand years, she had believed this realm was the ultimate pinnacle of existence. Now, feeling the infinitely deep, intoxicating gravity of Kaelen’s dark mana, the heavens just felt small.
"Are you mourning your kingdom, Ariel?" he asked, his deep, multi-tonal voice laced with dark amusement.
"I am mourning the centuries I wasted serving a parasite, Emperor," Ariel replied softly. She stepped directly in front of his throne and sank gracefully to her knees. She placed her pale, flawless hands on his heavy Void-Steel boots, looking up at him with eyes burning with corrupted, violet devotion. "The light was always so cold. It demanded absolute perfection but gave nothing in return. Your darkness is the only thing that burns."
Kaelen’s predatory smirk widened. He reached down, his large, calloused hand threading into her pitch-black hair. He forcefully tilted her head back, exposing the pale skin of her throat.
"Then let us see how hot it can truly burn," Kaelen whispered.
[System Notification: Activating Assimilated Divine Authority - ’Void-Flare’.]
He raised his free hand toward the suffocating violet sky. He tapped into the Level 115 core he had violently ripped from Archangel Uriel. But instead of channeling the pristine, life-giving heat of a celestial star, Kaelen ran the divine spell directly through the aggressive, corrupting filter of his Demigod class.
The atmosphere violently imploded.
Directly above the obsidian plains, a miniature sun tore itself into existence. But it did not cast light. It was a sphere of hyper-dense, terrifying black fire. It actively devoured the ambient light around it, pulling in the remaining holy mana of the Silver Threshold like a localized singularity.
The heat radiating from the Void-Flare was catastrophic. It wasn’t the heat of a summer day; it was the skin-melting, radioactive heat of total entropy.
Seraphina and Lyriel, who were resting near the edge of the camp, instantly dropped to their knees. Even protected by the Abyssal Trinity link, the sheer, crushing pressure of the black sun made their breath hitch and their Level 80+ cores violently tremble in submission.
"Magnificent," Ariel gasped, her chest heaving as the intense, euphoric pressure washed over her skin. She leaned her cheek heavily against Kaelen’s knee, utterly intoxicated by the sheer scale of his power.
He clenched his fist, and the black sun instantly collapsed in on itself, vanishing into a wisp of dark smoke.
"Uriel’s authority is highly malleable," he noted, his voice vibrating with raw satisfaction. "It scales perfectly with my void density. It is not just a spell; it is a localized domain expansion."
"Master!" Lyriel called out, flawlessly melting out of a nearby shadow to kneel beside Ariel. The elven assassin’s silver eyes were wide with predatory excitement. "I have scouted the perimeter of the Second Sphere. The Gates of Virtues."
"And?" Kaelen asked, his pitch-black eyes locking onto his assassin.
"The gates are forged from absolute, solid divine law. They are physical manifestations of the Goddess’s will," Lyriel reported swiftly. "Behind them, the Second Choir has formed a defensive phalanx of fifty thousand heavily armored Cherubim. They are deploying massive ballistas of concentrated light. They intend to hold us in a choke point."
"A siege," Seraphina scoffed, standing up and resting the Eclipse Breaker across her armored shoulders. "They want to bleed us on their walls. They still think we fight by mortal rules."
Kaelen let out a low, dangerous laugh that echoed across the blackened plains.
"They want to hide behind a wall of divine law?" he mused, standing up from his crystal throne. The suffocating gravity of his presence physically pushed the three women back an inch. "Then we will melt the law."
He looked down at Elara, who was aggressively stuffing the last of the celestial cores into her spatial rings.
"Forge-Master," Kaelen commanded. "We do not rest. Awaken the Brutes. Marshal the vanguard."
Elara quickly stood, her eyes burning with manic energy. "Yes, my Demigod! To the gates!"
[System Notification: Epic Quest Triggered - ’The Searing of Virtues’.] [Objective: Breach the Second Sphere. Eradicate the Second Choir. Assimilate the Gates of Divine Law.] [Reward: Domain Expansion - ’Abyssal Firmament’.]
Kaelen cracked his knuckles, feeling the infinite, cooling ocean of mana actively fed to him by the absolute devotion of the four apex women kneeling at his feet. The heavens were vast, but they were brittle.
"Ariel," he stated, looking at his dark angel. "Take the sky. I want every ballista on that wall blinded by your shadows before my Brutes even take their first step."
"They will not see the sun again, Emperor," she vowed, her six massive Void-Wings violently snapping open, generating a localized hurricane of freezing darkness.
"Seraphina. Lyriel," he continued, his voice dropping to a heavy, merciless growl. "When I shatter the gates, you leave no survivors. The Goddess is watching. I want her to hear her children scream."
The Abyssal Demigod turned his gaze toward the towering, golden steps leading to the Second Sphere.
The invasion of heaven had officially begun, and Kaelen was bringing the heat of the Abyss to their doorstep.
