Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Chapter 232: He Followed Her to the Restroom

Anne Sutton watched the scene unfold. She wanted to stay behind, but she didn’t dare.

After all, Anna Linden was her boss now.

Anne Sutton used to actually look forward to coming to work!

But now, the thought of facing Anna Linden at the office gave her the urge to run away.

’I wish I could just call in sick and stay home forever!’

Trailing behind Anna Linden and Chloe Chase, Anne Sutton felt timid. ’Anna is probably thinking up ways to chew me out right now,’ she guessed.

When they reached the office, Anna Linden sat down. Chloe Chase looked at Anne Sutton and said, "Why did you sneak Ian away yesterday without telling us? You had us searching for so long."

Anne Sutton had left early the day before. She had asked Chloe Chase for leave, but she hadn’t mentioned she was taking Ian with her.

The mere thought of it made Anna Linden furious.

If Anne Sutton had just said something, she wouldn’t have had to search for so long and waste so much time.

Anne Sutton said, "It’s been a while since I saw him. I forgot."

"Forgot?" Anna Linden retorted. "Anne Sutton, if it weren’t for Ian, I would have called the police yesterday! Let me tell you, if anything like this happens again, I won’t let you off so easily."

Hearing this, Anne Sutton let out a small laugh. "You say that as if you’d let me off the hook even if I hadn’t taken Ian!"

Anna Linden looked at her defiant expression—like a dead pig that doesn’t fear boiling water—and was about to die from anger.

Chloe Chase stood to the side, sighing at Anne Sutton.

Anne Sutton said, "If there’s nothing else, I’ll get to work."

Yesterday, Anna Linden had deliberately piled work on her, leaving her swamped all day until she could finally catch her breath just before closing time.

Now that she had offended her again, who knew what kind of scheme Anna would cook up to trap her.

Anne Sutton wouldn’t even be surprised.

But her previous job at the hospital had been exhausting too. Since she had chosen this line of work, she could endure a bit of hardship.

She wasn’t going to be forced out by Anna Linden’s tactics.

Anna Linden looked at Anne Sutton and said, "Not so fast. I have something else for you to do today."

Anne Sutton looked at her. "What is it?"

’She’s probably thought of some new way to torment me, hasn’t she?’

Anna Linden said, "You’ll see when we get there."

Anne Sutton had assumed Anna was going to send her off to do some grueling manual labor, but it turned out Anna was just taking her out for a meal.

They were in a luxurious private room with a very nice ambiance. Anne Sutton sat in her chair, watching Anna Linden, who was seated opposite her, ordering from the menu.

Anne Sutton had no idea what she was planning.

For her to simply take her out to eat... it was too strange.

A short while later, a young woman walked in and said, "Mr. Linden."

When Anna Linden saw her, her lips curved into a gentle smile. "Faye."

Faye Yorke sat down, glanced at Anne Sutton, and asked, "And this is...?"

Anna Linden said, "This is my assistant. You can just call her Sutton."

Faye Yorke smiled. "Hello, Assistant Sutton."

Anne Sutton nodded, sizing up the young woman. She was very beautiful, the type who looked like she came from a prominent family—fair-skinned and lovely, with large eyes.

Anna Linden glanced at Anne Sutton and said, "Let me introduce you. This is Faye Yorke. Her grandfather is an academician of the medical school and was also my teacher."

Anna Linden’s teacher was naturally a very impressive figure.

Faye Yorke smiled shyly. "That’s my grandfather’s accomplishment. I’ve only just started working, so I still have a lot to learn from Mr. Linden. My grandfather also told me to learn as much as I can from her."

Anna Linden said, "You’re too modest."

They chatted for a while, talking a lot about Faye Yorke’s grandfather, the teacher.

Anne Sutton sat to the side and listened. Since she didn’t know them very well, she couldn’t join the conversation. Although she didn’t know why Anna Linden had brought her here, she was certain it wasn’t just to chat.

Not long after Faye Yorke arrived, Nathan Fawcett came in as well.

He pushed the door open and walked in, looking surprised to see Anne Sutton there.

Anna Linden looked at him and said, "Sit down."

Nathan Fawcett didn’t know what was going on, but he sat down anyway.

Anne Sutton was sitting next to Anna Linden, in a seat Anna had specifically assigned her, so she had no choice but to stay there.

From where she sat, she was directly across from Nathan Fawcett.

After Nathan Fawcett sat down, he glanced at her.

Anna Linden introduced Faye Yorke to Nathan Fawcett. "This is Faye Yorke, my teacher’s granddaughter. You two have met before."

’Of course, she met Ethan Linden!’

As for Nathan Fawcett, he didn’t actually know this person at all.

But he was playing the part of Ethan Linden now, so to avoid blowing his cover, he could only greet Faye Yorke with, "Long time no see."

Faye Yorke smiled and said, "It has been a long time, Ethan. I heard you went to Westhaven a while ago. Was it fun there?"

Nathan Fawcett said, "It was all right."

Anne Sutton stared at him, noticing that when he was playing the role of Ethan, he seemed gentler than he did as Nathan Fawcett.

’Probably because he’s gotten used to it after all these years with the Linden Family,’ she thought.

If she didn’t know the truth, Anne Sutton would have found it truly difficult to connect him with the hot-tempered Nathan Fawcett.

To stay by his mother’s side, he had become so skilled at playing the part of Ethan Linden. It was clear how much he had sacrificed.

Anne Sutton had originally planned to expose his identity, but seeing him like this, she couldn’t bring herself to do it.

’He’s been through so much just to stay by his mother’s side!’

Faye Yorke said, "Well, next time you have a break, maybe you can take me to Westhaven to have some fun."

Nathan Fawcett nodded gently. "Sure."

Anna Linden watched the two of them, smiled, and said to Nathan Fawcett, "Ethan, after we eat, I have to get back to the hospital. Faye happens to be on leave today, so why don’t you keep her company? Remember to take her home, and don’t be a poor host."

As if possessed by the spirit of Ethan Linden, Nathan Fawcett replied, "Mm."

Faye Yorke glanced at Nathan Fawcett, the corners of her lips turning up.

Even if Anne Sutton were a complete idiot, she could see what was happening now. Was Nathan Fawcett... on a blind date?

Then why had Anna Linden brought her here?

Was it just to make her watch him on a blind date with someone else?

...

For some reason, watching him on a blind date with someone else made Anne Sutton feel deeply uncomfortable.

She said, "I’m full. I’m going to the restroom."

With that, she stood up and left the private room.

...

In the restroom, Anne Sutton splashed her face with water. She thought about everything that had just happened, about Faye Yorke’s background. The fact that her grandfather was an academician alone proved that Faye’s family status was far beyond her own.

’So, is this Anna Linden’s way of reminding me that I’m not good enough for Nathan Fawcett?’

How ridiculous. It’s not like she ever wanted to marry the Nathan Fawcett who was now living as Ethan Linden!

After washing her face, Anne Sutton walked out. She was wondering whether she should even go back to the room when she saw Nathan Fawcett blocking the doorway.

Seeing him, she froze for a moment, then asked, "Shouldn’t you be eating? What are you doing here?"

Nathan Fawcett asked, "I came to ask you, why are you with my mom?"

Her being here made no sense to him at all.

His mother despised her and was constantly trying to stop him from being with her. So why would she bring Anne Sutton to an event like this?
