Sapphyra [Adult Superhero Progression]

Chapter 107

Sapphyra

I didn’t know where I was going but I had to get out of there.

What the hell is wrong with me? I was begging for Wyatt…again?! It’s like I can’t go through anything without him. And with Guy and my mom right there, it's not like I didn’t have any support—I had plenty.

But I still reached out for the man who hurt me over and over again.

And now I’m flying away from the one man who loves me despite it all. I’m nothing but trash. Why can’t I treat the people who love me right?

I stopped flying and landed on a mushroom roof overlooking a small vegetable farm lit up by glowing fungi. It would be amazing to take some of that to the surface…if I could just calm down first.

“Sapph, it’s okay!” Guy said, in all his naked glory. He covered his body with his silky blue wings when he caught me looking.

“Sorry.” I mumbled though there's too many things to apologize for at this point.

“Don’t you dare apologize. No one is upset with you, angel. We’re all here for you.” I shook my head at his kind words. My heart wouldn’t stop punching my chest. I tried deep-breathing, hoping to get it under control. I even counted to twenty but nothing was working.

“Oh, goddess…” I moaned, dropping to the ground, flat on my ass. Guy walked over and sat behind me. Here I was, just thinking he would let me get it all out but no, that’s not Guy.

The moment he sat behind me, I stopped breathing. When he wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me back against him, my heart slowed down. A calming sensation ran up my body. It was like he was water putting me out. Even though the embers still burned, the danger was over.

For now at least.

“You’re okay, angel. I’m right here with you.” He murmured softly in my ear, rubbing my belly slowly. I shivered at his touch, aching for more. The second my body reacted that way, I felt disgusted. He was comforting me, not trying to fuck me.

Would I still feel the same if it were Wyatt touching me?

“Mushroom for your thoughts?”

“Ew.” I snorted, trying to pull myself into the moment. “I’m thinking about too much. Too many wrong things.” My hand covered his over my belly. “This is all I should be thinking about.”

“You are. You’ve just got a million other things too. It’s okay to think about them, that's what makes you human…sorta.”

Neither one of us was human but it’s nice to pretend.

“I get what you’re saying but I just…I can’t believe the first person I reached out for was him…again.” My shoulders slumped and the ball of despair in my gut tried coming back. Guy wasn’t having it though—he was everything I needed. Our mate bond coaxed my anxiety back down, quieting my mind until I was strong enough to handle it.

I faded in and out for a while. I think I heard my mothers voice or felt her hand on my forehead? Was that Wyatt or Noa growling at Guy? I couldn’t keep my eyes open.

Eventually everything was so quiet, I must have fallen asleep because the next thing I know, Guy was gently shaking me awake.

“Hm, what?” I opened my eyes, surprised to see we had moved from the rooftop to a cute hotel room. The brown walls were covered in a white goo-like stains that vaguely resembled a mushroom cap. The two chairs and desk were white with a rounded top and they matched the bed I was currently in.

Guy sat in a chair pulled up next to the bed. He had dark bags under his eyes. Damn it, he must be as exhausted as I am. Had he been guarding me since I passed out?

“Guy…” my voice caught in my throat.

“If you apologize one more time, I will nuzzle your neck until you pee yourself.”

I gulped. Such a serious threat from such an unserious man made me sit up and straighten my back out.

“Okay.” I blinked a few times, letting time crawl between us. “How did we get here?”

“You passed out in my arms. The others found us and your mom—she’s amazing by the way—suggested we stay at the best hotel in town until you felt better.”

Mom. I’m so happy we managed to find each other again. I have questions about how she survived but honestly, I don’t really care. She could be a vampire queen or a clone but she would always be my mama.

“Oh. I see.” Sitting up in bed, my hands gripped the sheets. Maybe I could get a grip on myself in the process.

“Hey, Guy?” I asked, unable to look up at him.

“Hm?” He grunted.

“Could you hold me again while I…” the words refused to cooperate.

“While you what?” I flinched when his hand covered mine. He started to pull away but I quickly placed his hand back over mine.

“Could you hold me while I get System to check my body.” Finally out but not free, the words sat heavy on my chest like an elephant.

“You never have to ask that.” He tilted my chin up with his tail and kissed my forehead. I smiled, letting the warmth of that kiss fill me with courage as he slid in behind me. There was something special about how his arm went across my belly. It didn’t feel possessive like with Wyatt, more supportive I guess.

I love the gesture either way.

“System, ahem.” I cleared my throat, trying to put on a brave face. Who knows what’s happened to my baby during today’s chaos.

[You rang?]

“Yeah. Can you do a diagnostic on my body? See if anything is wrong with my little one?”

Guys finger’s spread further over the top section of my belly, and I leaned into him.

[One second…] I held my breath waiting, mentally preparing myself for the worst. It wasn’t okay but it would be okay. Eventually.

[The baby is one hundred percent fine. Your bleeding was not due to the pregnancy. Unfortunately for you, your cycle hasn’t stopped.]

Guy and I both sighed with relief, then looked at each other, confused.

“I’m sorry, did you just say that my cycle is still on? But I’m pregnant—”

[Yeah, about that? Being half dragon and half human means you can still be ovulating while pregnant. Plus, since dragon pregnancies take longer than normal, there is a chance you could conceive again.]

Guys hand’s froze on my belly. I looked back at him, glaring. His blush wasn’t helping his case.

“Not a chance, buddy.”

“What?! I didn’t think anything!” He put his hands up innocently.

“Uh huh. Likely story.” I kissed his cheek just as a knock at the door interrupted us.

Why did I already know it was him before he opened his mouth?
