Chapter 106
Noa
I smelled blood—her blood and that's all it took for me. Damn the gender barriers, something was wrong with Sapphyra. Wrong with our pup! Guy’s head perked up out of the water as I moved. He opened his mouth to speak and that's when the scent hit his nose too.
We were shooting out of there faster than thought, hopping over the border wall.
“You can’t be in here!” The receptionist lady shroom tried to stop us.
I growled like a devil, putting the fear of god in her. She quickly moved out of the way and we rushed in, bursting the doors down.
Sapphyra sat on the edge of the salt water pool, eyes closed. Her mother sat with her, covering them both with towels. The water beneath my mate was covered in crimson, a small trail ran from it to her. My stomach dropped, a whine ripped from my chest.
Her head snapped up, locking her gaze on me.
“I’m okay. I think. It’s fine.” She tried to lie but I could smell the stress sweat on her.
“You’re not fine, goddess. You are anything but fine.” I ran a hand down my face, squatting low next to her.
Wyatt was scratching at the walls of my mind, desperate to come out
“She needs me to take care of her.”
“The hell she does! You’re probably the reason she’s in distress, Wyatt!”
“Which is why you have to let me talk to her. She’ll calm down with me!”
“No.” I wasn’t budging on this. He can suck the fattest part of me ass if he thinks I’m gonna let him ruin her any further.
“You’re being stupid and stubborn.”
“And you made a deal to take a backseat so sit your ass down and watch the rest of us care for her!”
I scolded him so hard that the door in my mind slammed shut, locking him in place. That wouldn’t hold him for long but hopefully I wouldn’t need to hold him.
“Noa.” Sapphyra’s mother looked at me carefully, like I was a wild animal threatening the safety of her daughter.
Hell, maybe I was…but not on purpose.
“Yes ma’am?”
“Your eyes were flashing colors. What does that mean?”
“Hmph.” I smirked and tilted my head at her. “It means I was talking to Wyatt. He’s in here—” I tapped the side of my head.
At the sound of his name, Sapphyra searched my eyes like she was hunting for treasure.
“Is he okay?” she whispered, breaking my heart.
“He’s fine. Just worried about you, same as everyone else.”
She bit her bottom lip, shaking her head. I knew what she wanted to ask, I could feel the question bubbling up on her skin.
“Can I talk to him?” I heard Guy hiss behind me, soft and disappointed. I can’t blame the guy.
“He can hear you.”
“Right but…I want to talk to him—just for a minute I swear!” She pleaded with me like a drug addict begging for another hit. Goddess, is that what they are? Addicts, and their drug of choice is each other.
I think I get it now and I hate that I get it because now? Now I gotta be the bad guy.
“No, Sapphyra. He made the deal to stay in the back because he violated you. He knocked you unconscious and left you inside Sanctuary for 100 years.” She shook her head, pink curls deflecting the truth.
“He did that to protect me and I forgave him for that.” I scoffed. Of course she did.
“You make me sick, you know that? You’ve poisoned our mate. Look at her! I bet you love seeing her like this don’t you.”
He gave no answer. Bastard knew I was right.
I swallowed my rage and tried to give her as much tenderness as I could.
“Sapph…goddess, look at me.” I grasped her chin, stopping the shakes. “He dosed you with ten batches of dragonsbane while you were tearing up the city. You probably couldn’t feel it but he did it. I have his memories.”
Her eyes widened, water poured out like she’s a boat that sprung a leak.
“He—he wouldn’t do that…even if he did he was just trying to help me. I was becoming a monster again…” Who was she reasoning with?
“Sapph,” Guy finally said, wrapping his arms around her from behind. Her wings sprang out so fast they knocked water against the stone. “We know he tried to protect you,” he said, voice tight, “but he wouldn’t have had to go that far if he never hurt you to begin with.”
“No!” Sapph tore out of his arms, half-slipping on the wet stone as she launched herself upward. Her flight was clumsy, frantic, all panic and no grace.
“Shit!” Guy softly cursed, flying after her.
That left me alone with Mrs.Pharr. My mother-in-law.
Despite being 5’8 and a little over one twenty, the woman terrified me.
“Let him out.” She said as calm as a serial killer, still dripping wet with a towel around her
“Ma’am?” I gulped.
“Wyatt. Let him out. I think it’s time he and I had a chat about my daughter’s well being.”
She placed hands on her head and cracked her neck, then her knuckles. She’s definitely about to hurt someone.
Better him than me.
I tried opening the door so I could drag his ass out for judgement day but this rat-bastard barricaded himself inside!
“Oh now you wanna stay on the bench?”
“You see her. That woman is absolutely going to kill me and I’m not ready to die before our second child is born.”
“You a bitch-ass n****. I hope you know that.”
“At least I’ll be alive.” He taunted, pushing me out of my headspace.
“Uh…” I stumbled a bit, looking for a way to get myself out of this fucked up situation.
“He chicken out?” She asked, folding her arms.
“You better believe it.” I nervously laughed and scratched behind my ear.
“That’s fine.” I wasn’t ready for the jab to my nuts. I’m a wolf. I’ll heal it, but that shit still hurts like a motherfucker. Dropped to my knees, I whined like a bitch and tried not to throw up.
“That was for torturing my daughter and daring to call the consequences of your bullshit “protection””. Now then, I want to know one thing only from you.”
She put her knee on my neck and grabbed my hair, forcing me to look up.
“What did you do with the rest of my family?”
