Wang Jianguo said from the other end of the line, "Wang Han, are you at the old house right now?"

"Yes, what's up?"

"You mentioned Zhao Dong was back? Is he home now?"

Wang Han looked puzzled and glanced at Zhao Dong. "Why are you asking?"

There was a moment of silence before Wang Jianguo said, "Wang Han, Dad needs you to do something. Please turn on the speakerphone. I need to talk to him."

Wang Han was stunned. "Dad, are you out of your mind?" she asked in disbelief. "What could you possibly have to say to him? No, I refuse! Our family should cut off all ties with his!"

"Shut up! Do as I say!" Wang Jianguo was clearly furious.

Wang Han's defiance vanished. Reluctantly, she turned on the speakerphone and said to Zhao Dong in a huff, "My dad wants to say a few words to you."

Zhao Dong replied coldly, "No need. Your family is too noble for the likes of us."

He had harbored resentment towards Wang Jianguo ever since finding out that the man had deliberately ignored his father, Zhao Kangyou, in public. Naturally, he wanted nothing to do with him.

Wang Jianguo's voice came through the phone, heavy with complex emotions. "Zhao Dong, it's Uncle Wang. There may have been some misunderstandings back then, and I'd like to clear them up. Can you give your uncle that chance?"

Zhao Kangyou heard this as well. He smoked his cigarette in silence, not saying a word.

After a moment, Zhao Dong replied indifferently, "If you have something to say, just say it."

Wang Han glared at Zhao Dong and passed the phone to him.

As Zhao Dong took it, his hand brushed against Wang Han's. She trembled as a strange feeling welled up inside her. An unnatural expression crossed her face, and she hastily snatched her hand away.

Zhao Dong glanced at her before taking the phone. "What is it? Speak."

After a pause, Wang Jianguo laughed. "Zhao Dong, you've been back for a while, why didn't you contact your uncle? Did you forget all about me?"

"Please," Zhao Dong replied coolly. "I wouldn't dare call you Uncle."

Wang Jianguo sighed. "Zhao Dong, I know you must be upset, but let me tell you the truth. There was a misunderstanding between your father and me back then."

"A misunderstanding?"

"Yes. I might have looked successful, but I was set up by my rivals and lost a lot of money. My family and friends all suffered during that period. I was afraid that if certain people saw how close I was to your dad, they would use it to threaten him. That's why I had to deliberately break ties with him in public." He ended with a heavy sigh.

Wang Jianguo continued, "Zhao Dong, I'd like to invite your family to a meal to resolve the misunderstandings of the past. I've always considered your father my best friend. Please, give me this opportunity, Zhao Dong."

The phone was on speaker, so Zhao Kangyou heard every single word.

Zhao Dong looked at his father and asked after a pause, "Dad, what do you think?"

Wang Jianguo hurriedly interjected, "Old Zhao, just give your brother a chance to explain! If I don't explain now, I'm afraid I'll never get another chance..."

These words evidently moved Zhao Kangyou. After a moment of silence, he said, "Fine. I'll give you this chance."

Wang Jianguo was instantly thrilled. "Great! Old Zhao, let's have lunch together today! We brothers need to catch up!"

Wang Han snatched the phone back and snapped at Zhao Dong, "I really don't get what Dad is thinking. Why does he need to explain anything to your family? Is that necessary? It's ridiculous!"

After saying her piece, Wang Han gave Zhao Dong a cold look and turned to leave.

Once she was gone, Zhang Cuimei looked at Zhao Kangyou. "Old man," she asked, "do you really think Wang Jianguo treated you like that back then because he was afraid you'd be threatened?"

Zhao Kangyou was silent for a moment before shaking his head. "I don't know."

"So, about this lunch... should we go? Maybe we shouldn't. I don't want to be looked down on," Zhang Cuimei sighed.

Zhao Kangyou was clearly conflicted. Normally, he would want nothing more than to sever all ties with Wang Jianguo. But now that the man claimed there was a hidden reason for his past actions, he was curious to hear him out.

Zhao Dong said flatly, "Mom, whether we go or not, you don't have to worry about being looked down upon. No one is qualified to look down on our family anymore."

After a moment of thought, Zhao Kangyou nodded. "Alright, we'll go! I want to see exactly what this Wang Jianguo has to say."

Zhao Dong smiled, but his heart ached as he looked at his parents' old, worn-out clothes. "Dad, Mom, I've been meaning to take you shopping for a few days, but we haven't had the time. Since we're free today, let me take you to buy some new clothes first."

Zhao Dong knew his parents were frugal their whole lives. He had given his mother a million yuan, but he figured they'd be too hesitant to spend it, so he decided to buy them some things himself.

As expected, Zhao Kangyou and Zhang Cuimei both refused, saying they wouldn't go out with him no matter what. However, they were no match for Zhao Dong's persistence and were eventually pulled out the door by him.

He hailed a cab and took his parents to the mall. There, he led them straight into the finest clothing boutique and bought each of them a complete outfit. Dressed in their new clothes, they both looked much more spirited.

Zhang Cuimei felt a bit embarrassed but also happy and filled with a sense of bliss. She couldn't help but ask, "Zhao Dong, these clothes weren't cheap, were they? Your father and I don't need fancy clothes; as long as they're clean, it's fine."

Zhao Dong smiled. "Mom, it wasn't much, just a few hundred yuan. Clothes that cost a few hundred are very common these days."

The sales associate standing nearby overheard him and couldn't hide the strange look in her eyes. It's rare to see a customer like this. Each outfit cost over sixty thousand, bringing the total to more than a hundred thousand, and yet this young man just claimed it was only a few hundred!
