Chapter 94: He Came, He Saw, He Conquered
Liam sat in his living room. His two best friends, Mark and Dave, sat on the sofa next to him. They stared at the television screen.
Liam was a season ticket holder. He attended the massive fan protests in November 2021. He stood outside Old Trafford in the freezing rain, wearing a green and yellow scarf, holding a flare, and demanding the Glazers sell the club. When Axiom Group bought Manchester United, Liam celebrated in the pub for two straight days. Six months later, the club remained unbeaten, won the FA Cup, and lifted the Champions League trophy.
What more could a fan ask for? The new manager, Marcus Vale, felt like a godsend. Vale made questionable decisions initially—benching highly paid stars, bringing in unfamiliar players—but he always proved the critics wrong. Liam trusted Vale's vision entirely. He felt no worry regarding the summer transfer window.
Liam held the remote. He loaded a new video from the YouTube channel 'Aditya Reds'. The creator made cinematic season preview videos for Manchester United. They were legendary within the fanbase.
"Play it," Mark said.
Liam pressed play.
The video opened with the start of the previous season. The screen showed Old Trafford bathed in sunlight. Ole Gunnar Solskjær smiled on the touchline, hugging players. The audio track featured Martin Tyler's iconic, screaming commentary from the Newcastle match: "Ronaldo's back!" The stadium roared. It represented the massive, fleeting hope of the false dawn.
The music shifted. A low, ominous bass tone kicked in.
The screen flashed to the 5-0 loss against Liverpool. Then a 2-0 loss to Manchester City. Then the final nail in the coffin: the 4-1 humiliation against Watford.
The video cut to a raw, black-and-white clip of David de Gea's post-match interview standing in the Vicarage Road tunnel. De Gea looked entirely broken.
"We don't know what to do with the ball," De Gea said, his voice echoing over a silent background. "We don't know how to defend. It is unacceptable."
The screen showed fans in the away end holding their heads in shock.
A heavy, rhythmic drumbeat started. The visuals transitioned to the November riots. Green and yellow smoke filled the screen. Fans held up placards. Pundits on Sky Sports and BT Sport slammed the players for downing tools. The stock ticker symbol for Manchester United flashed on screen, plummeting downward in red text.
Then, a sharp, loud sound effect of a gavel hitting wood played.
The screen turned black. White text appeared: AXIOM GROUP COMPLETES 100% PURCHASE OF MANCHESTER UNITED. Footage showed fans celebrating outside the stadium, tossing green and yellow scarves into the air. The Glazers were gone. The fans hoped the new owners would protect the institution.
The scene shifted to the press room. Reporters whispered. Camera shutters clicked rapidly. Marcus Vale walked in. He wore a plain club suit. He looked young, tired, and entirely unknown to the footballing world. Pundits in voiceovers asked, "Who is this guy?" and "Is this a joke?"
The video showed his first press conference. He thanked the club for their faith. Then, the video cut to the final question from a journalist in the front row.
"Marcus, given the current state of the club—sitting outside the top four, tactically disjointed, recovering from a massive fan protest and an ownership change—what is your realistic objective? What would you define as a successful season for Manchester United this year?"
The camera zoomed in on Marcus. He looked directly at the journalist.
"Winning the Champions League." His delivery was completely deadpan. The room sat stunned. Marcus looked at the sea of bewildered faces staring back at him. Slowly, Marcus laughed.
Hearing him laugh, the journalists immediately assumed he was breaking the tension with a massive, self-aware joke. A wave of laughter swept through the room. Marcus stood up from his chair.
"Thank you all for coming," Marcus said politely. He took a step away from the desk. Then, he stopped.
He turned back, placed his hands flat on the desk, and leaned down so his mouth was an inch away from the center microphone. The laughter in the room began to die down as they noticed his posture. Marcus looked out at them. The amusement completely vanished from his eyes. His expression turned dangerously serious.
"By the way," Marcus said, his voice echoing cleanly through the suddenly silent room. "I was not joking."
He held their gaze for two long seconds.
"Winning the Champions League is a successful season for Manchester United. Anything below that is not accepted for me."
A massive, cinematic BOOM sound effect hit.
The screen exploded into a fast-paced montage of victories. United winning again. And again. And again. Not losing a single fixture.
Liam rubbed his arms. He had goosebumps.
"Man," Liam said, pausing the video. "When Marcus said that winning the Champions League was the only acceptable result... I thought he was a madman. I thought the new owners hired a psycho."
"We all did," Dave said, shaking his head. "We were eighth in the league."
"But thinking about it now," Liam continued. "That was completely badass. He looked them in the eye and delivered what he promised."
Mark nodded in agreement. "He knew what he was building. Hit play."
Liam unpaused the video.
The montage showcased United's path to the Champions League final. They dismantled Atlético Madrid, outplayed Manchester City, and bypassed Real Madrid.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored in almost every fixture.
Voiceovers from Gary Neville and Roy Keane praised the manager for unlocking the prime version of his star player.
Ronaldo secured the Premier League Golden Boot and the Champions League top scorer award.
The background music cut out completely.
The video showed a defensive highlight against Manchester City. With no crowd noise, the isolated pitch audio played. Raphael Varane's voice barked out loud, sharp pressing triggers to the midfield.
The team shifted together as a single, coordinated unit. A digital ticker appeared in the bottom corner of the screen. It ticked upward aggressively, stacking up the clean sheets the team secured over the unbeaten run, visualizing their defensive dominance.
The music surged back in for the finals.
The FA Cup final flashed across the screen. 1-0 against Liverpool. Bruno Guimarães scored a powerful header, arriving late in the box while Ronaldo dragged two center-backs away with a decoy run.
Then, the climax. The Champions League final in Paris. Liverpool versus Manchester United.
The video showed the devastating second half. Paulo Dybala scored the first. Ronaldo scored a brace. Bruno Fernandes added the fourth. Jadon Sancho finished the fifth.
Right after Sancho's goal hit the net, the video cut to a split-second reaction shot of Jurgen Klopp on the touchline. The Liverpool manager stood frozen, his mouth slightly open, looking completely stunned and out of ideas.
The screen shifted to the VIP box at the Stade de France. It showed a brief, cold shot of Arthur Sterling and Maria Silva. They did not jump or scream. They watched the 5-0 thrashing with calm, calculating nods, representing the ruthless success of the Axiom takeover.
The final shot showed the United squad lifting the Champions League trophy in the rain, confetti sticking to their shirts.
The screen faded to black.
Marcus Vale's voiceover played one last time in the dark: "Winning the Champions League is a successful season for Manchester United. Anything below that is not accepted for me."
White text faded onto the center of the screen:
HE CAME. HE SAW. HE CONQUERED.
The video ended.
The living room remained quiet for a moment.
"I spent that whole night wasted," Dave said, staring at the TV. "I couldn't get the smile off my face for a week. Every time I thought of the 5-0 win, I would just laugh randomly on the street."
"Me too," Liam smiled. He grabbed the remote, clicked back to the start, and played the video again.

@UtdFanatic99: That transition from De Gea's interview to the deadpan press conference is actual cinema. Aditya Reds never misses.
@RedDevilCentral: When he leaned back into the mic and said "I was not joking"... chilling. He already knew he was going to win it.
@TacticsObsessed: The isolated audio of Varane shouting the pressing triggers gave me life. That is what a real defensive structure sounds like.
@CR7_Goat: Marcus Vale built the perfect system for Cristiano. Zero defensive duties, pure attacking output.
@ScouseTears: Liverpool fan here. I still have nightmares about that second half in Paris. We couldn't get near the ball.
@AxiomEra: Seeing the owners just nodding calmly while we go 5-0 up in a Champions League final is so cold. They mean business.
@GreenAndYellowForever: I was in that protest crowd outside Old Trafford. Best day of my life. The Glazers leaving saved this institution.
@BrunoSZN: The FA Cup winning header from Bruno G! The decoy run from Ronaldo was heavily underappreciated.
@RivalFan12: You won two trophies and act like you own the sport. Wait until next season when teams figure out Vale's setup.
@UtdStand: Figured out? Did you miss the part where we went unbeaten for six months?
@KloppReaction: That shot of Klopp looking completely lost on the touchline needs to be framed and put in the Louvre.
@SanchoPace: I watched this five times already. The clean sheet ticker stacking up is incredibly satisfying.
@RoyKeanesDog: No passion, no screaming, just pure tactical execution. Vale is different.
@GlazersOut2021: They put the protest smoke in the video! Thank you, Aditya, for remembering how we got here.
@DybalaRole: Getting Dybala on a cut-price deal to play the false nine was the masterstroke of the winter window.
@CityFan_01: We will win this season. Haaland is coming.
@UtdResponse: Haaland will spend 90 minutes in Varane's pocket just like everyone else.
@SleepingArchitect: Marcus Vale literally sleeps in his car and still outsmarts every manager in Europe. My manager.
@FootballHeritage: The contrast from Solskjær smiling while losing 4-1, to Vale stone-faced while winning the double.
@DeGeaSaves: De Gea's interview breaks my heart. He suffered so much under the old regime. Glad he got his medal.
@VanceMasterclass: Alexander Vance executing the transfers quietly in the background is why this works. No media leaks.
@ChampionsOfEurope: I still laugh on the street thinking about the 5-0.
@TacticalFoul: The difference in fitness levels is crazy. Under Ole, they gave up at 60 mins. Under Vale they press until the 90th.
@RashfordOut: Notice how Rashford wasn't in any of the final highlights? Good luck at Chelsea.
@OliseIn: This season we add Olise to this team. The league isn't ready.
@FredSamba: Missed opportunity not to include the dressing room Samba dance with Fred!
@TylerCommentary: "Ronaldo's back!" That feels like it happened a decade ago.
@StretfordEndLoud: The new stadium in 2025 is going to be a fortress. Axiom is doing everything right.
@UtdUpdates: The best part of Vale is he never complains to the media. He just finds solutions.
@AdityaReds: Thank you all for the support! Next season, we break their spirits.
