Chapter 240: Three Lineages
Robert left the hidden Inheritance Hall and made his way to the Main Hall, already turning over the next problem in his mind.
Storing the remaining inheritances without a plan for who would use them accomplished nothing. Knowledge, sitting in a sealed chamber, however valuable, was worth exactly as much as the person who eventually studied it. He needed to identify the right person for the three remaining lineages before the inheritances themselves became simply another set of untouched resources gathering dust.
He spent the rest of the morning reviewing the clan's roster carefully, weighing cultivation level against demonstrated skill, temperament, and the kind of long-term patience the work would demand.
Elder Leon was a clear leader in alchemy. With his cultivation at Spirit Root Realm Level 9, High-Stage, he had established himself as a key figure. Though his cultivation had slowed down in the past few months, his mastery of alchemy and pill formulation was already the strongest in the clan.
He is at the Junior Alchemist level in alchemy for the clan, and after breaking through to the Soul Manifestation Realm, he can advance to the next tier, Master Alchemist.
Beneath him, Robert selected Taylen and Emer, both at Spirit Root Realm Level 3, Mid-Stage, young enough to grow alongside the lineage rather than simply inheriting a finished structure.
For formations, Elder Morgan was the obvious choice. He had reached Spirit Root Realm Level 9, Peak-Stage, closer to the threshold of Soul Manifestation than either of the other two candidates, and his understanding of the clan's existing defensive arrays already exceeded anyone else's grasp of the subject.
He is currently a 2-star array master, and once he reaches the Soul Manifestation Realm, he will be able to learn with a three-star array master's knowledge, which will be a big boost for him.
His first students will be Sarah, who is at Spirit Root Realm Level 4, Low-Stage, and Ronan, who is at Spirit Root Realm Level 3, Mid-Stage.
They are a bit new to arrays, but with the right training, they can grow into a solid array master.
When it comes to weapon refining, Elder Zak fits the role like a glove. Although he is at Spirit Root Realm Level 9, Low-Stage—making him the least advanced of the three elders—his skills still outshine those of any younger clan member in this craft. As a Junior Blacksmith, he is on the brink of greatness, and once he breaks through to the Soul Manifestation Realm, he will step up to become a Senior Blacksmith.
Essie, at Spirit Root Realm Level 5, peak stage, and Sai, at Spirit Root Realm Level 6, Mid-Stage, have basic experience in weapon refining.
There are nine individuals, representing three unique lineages. They are on a mission to build something that, if successful, will grant the clan a treasure that no amount of wealth could ever replace.
Robert summoned all nine quietly that afternoon and led them, one by one, along the same hidden path behind the Main Hall that he had walked with John, Mary, and Chris the day before.
Most of them had never seen the building. Taylen and Emer exchanged a glance at the sight of the reinforced stone walls.
Sarah examined the concealment formations at the entrance, her professional curiosity evident in her focused gaze. Meanwhile, Sai scrutinised the structure with the same careful, analytical eye he applied to anything new he encountered.
Robert gathered them inside the central corridor and explained clearly what the clan was building. Three permanent professional lines—alchemy, formations, and weapon refining—each one meant to outlast the current generation entirely.
The knowledge contained in this hall was the clan's key to becoming self-sufficient, freeing them from the need to depend on outside entities for pills, defensive setups, and weapons—resources that would only become more expensive and dangerous to obtain as their reputation and goals expanded.
He turned towards the elders and said respectfully, "Elder Leon, Elder Morgan, and Elder Zak, addressing each of them. "You need to understand that this is not just for your personal growth," he stated. "You are being given the chance to create something that must endure. The clan is also growing with you. Leon, you will be responsible for training alchemists who will mentor the next generation. Morgan, you will be doing the same for formation masters. And Zak, you will focus on weapon refiners. This is not merely a gift; It is a weighty responsibility."
All three understood the weight of it without needing further explanation.
Robert distributed cultivation resources from his storage ring next, giving each person what suited their current stage rather than what might simply feel most impressive.
Morgan received the strongest allocation among the three elders—resources specifically suited to stabilising a foundation already at Level 9 Peak-Stage and preparing carefully for an eventual breakthrough.
Leon received resources meant to carry him from Level 9 High-Stage toward Peak-Stage, strengthening the foundation beneath him before he attempted anything further. Zak, currently at Level 9 Low-Stage, received resources meant to stabilise his current position and begin the slower work of advancing toward where Leon already stood.
The six younger cultivators were each given resources that suited their individual levels. While these were modest compared to what the elders received, they were just right for fostering steady, sustainable growth instead of any sudden jumps.
"These are not meant to be used all immediately," Robert said, looking around at all nine of them. "Resources create opportunity. They do not replace understanding. Use them carefully, and they will carry you further than rushing through them ever could."
He led them to the three sealed chambers next, opening each one in turn.
The Alchemy Chamber carried a faint scent of medicinal herbs the moment the door opened, and inside, Leon found himself facing knowledge organised with a depth he had not expected—spiritual plant theory, pill formula structures, flame control methods, and medicinal principles stretching far beyond anything the clan's existing resources had ever offered him.
He stood in front of it for a long moment, and Robert watched something settle over his expression that looked less like excitement and more like the sober recognition of scale.
"This could take years to properly understand," Leon said quietly.
"It will," Robert said. "That is why you are not doing it alone."
The Formation Chamber held something structurally different—formation principles laid out in careful progression, spirit pattern theory, node placement methods, and defensive and gathering formation designs advancing in complexity well beyond anything currently protecting the compound. Morgan studied it with the focused stillness of a man recognising, all immediately, just how much further his craft could still develop.
The Weapon Refining Chamber had a reputation of its own—filled with wisdom about spiritual metals, specialised forging techniques for various material blends, and weapon designs that were integrated with formations, all crafted for cultivators who were far more powerful than anyone currently in the clan. Zak stared at it for a while before finally breaking the silence.
"I am not sure I will ever really get all the knowledge of this in my lifetime," he confessed.
"You are not meant to," Robert said. "Your responsibility is to understand enough to teach it forward. Whoever comes after you will go further than you did. That is how it is supposed to work."
Once all three chambers had been properly assigned and activated, the system responded quietly at the edge of Robert's awareness.
Clan Development Condition Completed.
Three Professional Inheritance Lineages are established.
Alchemy Lineage: Established. Formation Lineage: Established. Weapon Refining Lineage: Established.
Clan Legacy Development: 10%.
Inheritance Hall Status: Level 1.
Professional Lineage Leaders: 3.
First-Generation Professional Disciples: 6.
New Clan Development Objective: Produce the First Soul Manifestation Professional Master.
Robert read through it and, once the others had begun settling into their new chambers, asked quietly, "System, analyse the breakthrough potential of the three lineage leaders."
Elder Morgan: Highest immediate breakthrough probability. Elder Leon: Strong potential. Additional foundation refinement recommended. Elder Zak: Stable potential. Additional cultivation required. Recommendation: Do not force breakthroughs.
He noted it without surprise. Morgan's position at Peak-Stage had already made him the clear front-runner, and the resources he had just received would only sharpen that lead further. But rushing any of them toward a breakthrough before their foundations were properly ready risked exactly the kind of instability that could cost years of progress rather than save them. He would tell Morgan, clearly, to prepare carefully rather than hurry.
Robert stood alone in the central corridor once the others had dispersed into their respective chambers, looking down the hallway at four active doors where none had existed a day before.
High-level cultivation. Alchemy. Formations. Weapon refining. Behind each one, members of the Osborn Clan were beginning to study knowledge that could shape the clan's direction for generations to come.
Until now, every improvement he had brought to the clan had come through providing resources and opportunities—arrays purchased and installed, spirit stones distributed, buildings constructed, and recruits welcomed in. All of it is valuable, all of it is necessary, but all of it is still dependent, in some fashion, on Robert continuing to provide.
This was different. This was the beginning of the clan producing its own resources rather than simply consuming what it brought back to it.
If these three lineages succeeded—if Leon's understanding of alchemy grew into something Jaylen and Emer could carry forward, if Morgan's formation knowledge became something Sarah and Ronan could build on, and if Zak's grasp of weapon refining passed down through Essie and Sai to whoever came after them—there would come a day when the Osborn Clan no longer needed to buy its pills from outside merchants, no longer needed to hire foreign formation masters to secure its walls, and no longer needed to depend on refiners from other cities for weapons worthy of its strongest cultivators.
The clan would have a team of its own cultivators, along with alchemists, formation masters, and weapon refiners, each contributing their unique skills.
For the first time, Robert could see the outline of a clan capable of continuing to grow, although the system never granted him another reward for the rest of his life.
