Chapter 236: The Clan's Foundation (Part 1)

Robert spent his first full morning walking around the clan alone.

He had seen the growth in glimpses the previous evening, moving through the crowd that had gathered to welcome him home, but there was a difference between being greeted by it and actually walking through it with time to look.

He crossed the training grounds first, larger now than the space he remembered leaving, packed with more disciples than he could easily count, their forms running through drills under the supervision of instructors who had themselves been junior members not so long ago.

The market beyond it carried a steady hum of activity: merchants calling prices, cultivators moving between stalls, and the particular busy energy of a place that had outgrown its original purpose and kept building around the overflow.

Children practiced basic cultivation forms in a smaller yard set apart from the main training ground, their movements awkward but earnest, watched over by an elder Robert recognized from years ago, now gray-haired and patient with a new generation.

The housing had grown far beyond what he remembered; the outer walls appeared to have doubled in size since he was last here, the stonework revealing a different texture. Along the perimeter, formation towers now stood at intervals, structures that had not existed during his absence. Their presence alone indicated a new level of defensive sophistication that the clan had never experienced before.

The Spirit Herb Garden had blossomed well beyond its original plots, and the patrol teams moved along the outer boundary with a disciplined rhythm. It was evident that this organization took its security seriously, rather than just assuming it was safe by default.

He stood at the edge of it all for a long moment, and the thought that settled over him was not pride, exactly. It was something quieter and more useful than that.

The clan had finally arrived at a stage where it could continue to thrive without him having to oversee every single decision.

He called the elders together that afternoon, and the reports came in steadily, each one confirming what his morning walk had already shown him.

Finances remained stable, the hostel income and trade routes producing exactly the kind of reliable wealth the clan had lacked for generations before Robert's leadership began.

The medicinal gardens kept getting better and better, producing more than ever. The alchemy production had ramped up to the point where the clan was able to trade their perfect instead of just providing for themselves. Construction was right on track, moving ahead as planned. Plus, recruitment was going smoothly, attracting a steady flow of skilled newcomers who were drawn in by the clan's growing reputation rather than any active hunting for talent.

Every elder, in their own way, arrived at the same underlying conclusion by the end of the meeting.

The clan was growing faster than its available knowledge could support.

The clan's techniques and resources played a crucial role in helping their disciples to break through effortlessly from Foundation Establishment to the Spirit Root Realm. This progress was carefully refined over the past year, thanks to their steady practice and the arrays that Robert had established. However, upon reaching that stage, the clan discovered they were running low on further resources.

Several of the most talented disciples — young cultivators who had advanced faster than anyone expected under the Dual Cultivation Array's benefits — had already reached the ceiling of what the clan's current techniques could teach them and stood there with nowhere further to climb.

Robert listened to every report without interrupting, and by the time the meeting ended, he understood exactly what the clan's next obstacle was going to be and how to solve it.

That evening, as he sat alone in his study, he reflected on everything the system had bestowed upon him over the past year—things he had let pile up without much thought. There were the rewards from the Forest Hunt Competition, the accolades from the clan development task, and the points he had earned during the investigations at Ashwood Pass and Forgotten Moon City.

He had spent modestly along the way on arrays and skills that served immediate needs, but the bulk of it had simply sat untouched, waiting for a purpose significant enough to justify spending it.

This was the purpose.

He spoke quietly into the empty room. "System, open the Clan Development Store."

Clan Development Store Activated.

Categories: Conservation Manuals. Martial arts. Alchemy Heritage. Formation Heritage. Weapon Refining Heritage. Ancient Books. Historical Records. Legendary Expert Memories. Clan Buildings.

He leaned back in the chair, a look of genuine surprise on his face. He had always thought that the system was helping in his personal growth, occasionally reaching out to help the clan through shared training and resources. He had not realized there was a whole separate store focused on cultivating the clan as a vibrant, evolving entity.

"System points are not exclusively for the host's personal development," the system explained. "They may also be allocated towards the host's clan.

Robert opened the categories one by one and began reading.

The cultivation manuals category alone held more depth than he expected. The Heavenly Spirit Art, suitable for advancement from the Spirit Root Realm through Soul Manifestation, is priced at four hundred fifty thousand points.

The Nine Revolving Meridian Art, designed specifically for cultivators at the elder level, is priced at three hundred twenty thousand.

An Azure Flame Alchemy Manual offering a complete inheritance rather than scattered techniques costs two hundred eighty thousand.

An Ancient Formation Scripture is going for five hundred thousand, while an Earth Vein Weapon Refining Record is priced at four hundred twenty thousand.

He read through each description carefully, understanding quickly that purchasing a single technique in isolation would accomplish very little. What the clan actually needed was not one powerful manual sitting in a vault but complete inheritances broad enough to train an entire lineage of successors across multiple disciplines simultaneously.

Then he found the section that made him sit forward.
