Chapter 210: Six Months Later
Six months passed.
They faded away quietly, a turn of events Robert had not seen coming after the night the spatial lock gave out and ten bodies just disappeared. There were no assaults, no follow-up investigations, and the compound's daily routine remained undisturbed by any major conflicts.
The Duskfall Clan continued watching from a great distance, but watching was all they did. The world around Magical City simply moved forward, the way it always had, indifferent to what had happened beneath its notice.
The Walker Clan did not survive those six months.
It did not fall in a single dramatic moment. It faded instead, slowly, the way a fire fades once nobody adds more wood to it.
The remaining elders began quietly selling off assets within the first month. Several of the clan's businesses changed hands soon after, passed to merchants and smaller clans willing to pay fair prices for properties the Walker Clan could no longer maintain.
Branch members started leaving Celestial Brook City one by one, then in small groups, each departure making the compound feel a little emptier than before. By the fourth month, the compound that had once housed a respected regional power stood mostly silent.
Eventually, the remaining leadership left entirely.
Nobody in the region knew exactly where they went. Some said they had relocated somewhere quieter, somewhere they could rebuild away from the embarrassment that had settled over their name.
Others believed they had merged into a larger, more established clan, trading their independence for safety. A few simply assumed the clan had collapsed completely, its remaining members scattering to find new lives under different banners.
The truth did not matter much to anyone outside the family itself. What mattered was the result. The Walker Clan disappeared from regional politics. Their territory was slowly divided among four main powers eager to claim what had been left behind.
Within Celestial Brook City, people stopped mentioning the Walker name in everyday conversation, the way a name fades once there is no longer anyone left to keep it relevant.
The Osborn Clan, meanwhile, had become almost unrecognizable.
The southern construction project, which had begun with workers clearing open ground and clan members carrying stone under Robert's direction, was finished now.
The Advanced Cultivation Hall stood fully operational at the heart of it, its specialized rooms filled daily with members training at every stage of cultivation. The Contribution Hall ran smoothly, tracking effort and rewarding it fairly across a cultivator too large now for anyone to track by memory alone.
The Training Arena saw constant use, its open ground echoing each morning with the sound of forms being practiced and techniques being refined. The Resource Exchange Hall had become one of the busiest buildings in the clan, with cultivators trading materials and goods among themselves rather than waiting on outside merchants. Even the Spirit Herb Garden, which had taken the longest to show results, had begun producing its first steady harvests.
The clan itself had grown large enough to need clear divisions.
The outer area now held ordinary members, recruits, workers, and the families who supported them. The inner area belonged to active cultivators and trusted members who had proven themselves through training and contribution.
At the center sat the core area, reserved for leadership, the clan's most important facilities, and the resources that kept everything else running. Walking from one district to another took real time now, something that would have seemed impossible a year earlier, when the entire clan could be crossed in a few minutes.
The numbers told their own story.
More than twenty-five hundred people now live under the Osborn Clan's protection in some form. Over seven hundred of them carried full clan membership.
More than three hundred and fifty were active cultivators, training and contributing to the clan's continued strength. Many of them had arrived as independent cultivators over the past six months, drawn by reputation rather than recruitment, choosing the Osborn name because they had heard, from merchants and travelers passing through other cities, that this was a clan worth joining.
Throughout the region, the Osborn Clan was now officially recognized as a Small Clan, a formal status that had once seemed far beyond their reach.
The people at the center of it all had changed just as much as the surrounding clan.
Robert had grown considerably stronger over the past six months, his cultivation advancing steadily under conditions no other clan in the region could match.
John and Mary had both progressed as well, their foundations now carrying the kind of depth that came only from consistent, well-supported training.
Sai had improved sharply while managing a network that now stretched far beyond anything he had originally built, his own cultivation keeping pace with the demands of overseeing it. Ronan, Sarah, Taylen, and Eissa had each reached new levels of strength, their confidence growing alongside their cultivation, visible in the way they carried themselves through the training yard each morning.
The information network had grown the most dramatically of everything.
What had once been seven careful points within Magical City now extended across multiple nearby cities and towns, each one feeding daily reports back through Sai's coordination structure?
The Osborn Clan often knew about regional developments before any other local power did, a quiet advantage that nobody outside the clan fully understood the value of.
The hostel business continued producing steady income, joined now by regular trade caravan traffic and the constant activity of the Resource Exchange Hall, which had become something of a gathering place for cultivators passing through the region. For the first time in its history, the Osborn Clan no longer worried about money. It possessed real, lasting wealth, built carefully rather than won by chance.
Robert spent the better part of one quiet afternoon simply walking through everything that had been built.
He visited the Cultivation Hall first, standing in the doorway and watching members move between its specialized rooms, each one working at a pace suited to their own stage of advancement.
He walked past the Training Arena, where Ronan was running younger recruits through basic forms with the same patient discipline he had once practiced alone in a much smaller yard. He stopped briefly at the Resource Exchange Hall, listening to the easy back-and-forth of cultivators trading goods, a sound that would have been impossible to imagine here a year earlier.
He reviewed Sai's latest reports before continuing his walk, noting the steady rhythm of information arriving from cities the clan had no presence in just six months before.
Near the outer district, he passed a group of children playing on ground that had been bare and unused the last time he walked through it. Their laughter carried easily across the open space, ordinary and unremarkable in a way that struck him more than anything else he had seen that day.
He realized, somewhere in the middle of that walk, that the clan was no longer simply surviving.
It was thriving.
That evening, Robert climbed to the highest point in the clan and stood looking out over everything below him.
From there, he could see all of it immediately. The outer district is busy even at this hour with families settling in for the evening.
The inner district, where cultivators moved between their quarters and the training grounds. The cultivation hall, its windows lit from within. The Training Arena is quiet now but ready for tomorrow morning.
The Spirit Herb Garden, its careful rows visible even in the fading light. And beyond the compound walls, the roads leading towards the clan were busier now than they had ever been, carrying merchants and travelers and the occasional hopeful cultivator seeking a place within these walls.
He stood there for a long moment, simply watching.
Six months ago, the Osborn Clan had been building towards a future that existed mostly in blueprints and careful planning. Now that future had become something real, something he could see with his own eyes and walk through with his own feet.
The clan had entered a new stage.
And somewhere beyond the horizon, in cities and compounds the Osborn name had never reached before, people were beginning to take notice.
In the last six months, Robert hasn't received any system tasks. His clan has grown, but unfortunately, their power is still quite weak.
He needs to step away from the clan to explore other cities and learn about their growth and systems. In his absence, he'll leave Jack behind to safeguard the clan from any threats. He understands that rapid growth can attract unwanted enemies, and the Oeborn clan isn't quite prepared to handle that just yet.
The world is a huge place, brimming with formidable clans and countless opportunities just waiting to be discovered. He's confident that with the backing of the system and his family members by his side, he can turn his dreams into reality one day. His goal? To fortify the magical city and stand strong against rival clans.
