Chapter 82. Vic’s Perfect Day (6) Vic POV
Papa's heartbeat was slow, steady like the waves I could hear through the open windows. My cheeks pressed against his chest and I felt him rub my back gently. Our connection was still there. It belonged there to prevent his precious seed from leaking out of its rightful place in my womb.
I wrapped my arms around him, tighter. My eyes closed. The heat in the tower room felt cozy, the sweat, salt and love heavy in the air. I didn't want this to end, ever. Just papa and me. Forever. This tower had everything we needed and with space magic nothing was unreachable anyway. The only thing missing was three small feet running around. Laughing.
A warmth so deep, so heavy spread in my chest as I smiled into his rising chest and heavily breathed in his minty scent. Then I exhaled softly. I was his princess and princesses are supposed to give birth to an heir. Only then would she truly become a queen. His queen. But a single child was not enough. Two wasn't either: not just because I needed to surpass my mom with triplets but also because trinity is the ultimate symbol of unity and divinity—papa deserved only the best.
A soft kiss on my forehead. My heart felt full. The moment I opened my eyes I could see the canopy of the bed and the light fabric swaying softly in the air, making patterns. The moon was high in the sky, a pale light coming through the windows.
"Sleep, princess," he whispered.
I couldn't anymore. How could I miss such an important moment? This was my night. I closed my eyes and focused on my body with my space magic. His space magic. Of course I'd be able to sense them or I should have. But there was nothing. I could feel my ovaries but they felt the same as always. My muscles tightened. I didn't sigh or frown because the reason was obvious and simple. Even when I was ovulating and he had released in me eight times, it wasn't enough because my papa didn't want it yet.
A part of me wanted to be angry. His hand rubbed my head gently, smoothing down my hair while a thin layer of spatial magic stood between his soul and mine. Imperceptible. Only someone as skilled as him could have pulled it off and yet I felt it. Kathy and I grew up with him using it constantly around us to protect us; of course, I would be able to tell if he used it on me.
His magic echolocation. Far superior to a dolphin's and capable of finding us anywhere in the world. A steady beat like wind that never slowed. Only when he focused on one person.
A phone rang somewhere in the room, cutting through the silence. I ignored it and snuggled into his neck. But papa's hand slowed down, his gentle strokes pausing and I knew he would answer that call. My teeth bit into his skin. No. This night was ours.
But his fingers moved to my waist, tickling me slightly and I let go. Rolling onto my back and giving him a glare. He chuckled. "I know, I know, princess. Just a quick one." The moonlight made his violet eyes glow.
I dug my head into the soft pillow and listened over my ever faster, harder pounding heart. Naturally, the caller was known to me. Only one person had the audacity to call him on my special night and only one person could make his unwavering attention on my heartbeat falter slightly but more noticeable than anything.
His other princess. Even if he never called her that and she refuted being his daughter.
"Kathy." He greeted her and I closed my eyes. Without seeing, I could perfectly imagine his smile as he talked to her, almost the same as the one he gave me. Almost.
I had told my sister not to call today; she was supposed to have fun at the beach with mom but her anxiety got to her about this tournament.
"Of course I'll help. What do you need me to do?" He sounded amused and I was getting more and more irritated with each passing second he was giving her attention. She could've called tomorrow morning and it'd be fine. But she just had to ruin this night. Maybe if she wasn't hiding her feelings for him, I would have been less mad but she was and that was a problem for me.
The bed dipped as he stood up. I refused to look at him. Rubbing my belly with my fingers, I listened to the soft thud of his steps against the carpet as he went into unimportant details of a training session with Kathy.
I focused on the triplets that were supposed to be in my womb. The only reason I could think of that my papa wouldn't let them grow is genetic issues. Magic didn't fix everything. Well, maybe Katherine's life magic would have been able to; the stories of her creating dragons from scratch and ensuring my mother's health were in the past now.
A cool breeze blew over my heated skin, making me shiver and I hugged myself. No one else had life magic as far as I knew and it didn't matter because my children were not going to be born with any flaws. Science had to be able to do something about it. Yes. That was the plan: use the best scientists and solve the problem myself. That way he wouldn't have to worry.
Satisfied, I opened my eyes and saw my dad by the window, his back to me and his phone still at his ear. The muscles of his bare back were flexing with his movement as he assured her that she'd do well at the Inter Academy tournament and the qualifiers.
I bit my lip. She was not only ruining my moment with him, but she was also distracting him from what was important. And he was allowing it, talking to her instead of comforting me, his true princess. But maybe I could use his distraction to my advantage. Research into inbreeding wasn't exactly legal and the Hunter Association kept a tight leash on any actual human trials. I breathed out.
I would find a way to make papa's babies as healthy as they could be and be a Queen worthy of my King.
A smile grew on my face. It was decided. My night was no longer ruined and I got up from the bed, moving to the window and wrapped my arms around his waist, leaning my head against his shoulder.
"Kathy, I'm filled to the brim," I announced into the phone. He shook his head and even a hundred kilometers between my sister and I could see her red, flustered face.
