Retired S-rank father becomes a teacher

It was Thursday and Silas was wearing a suit and tie, his pink bunny backpack was absent this time. He was sitting in a fastfood joint, drinking a milkshake. Nina was at the register wearing her bright yellow employee uniform and a cap. They had an hour before they needed to appear in court.

She walked over to his booth, a tray with her own food in her hands. A box of nuggets, fries and a large drink. She slid into the seat in front of him and sighed.

"Are you nervous?" He asked and sipped on his straw.

Nina shook her head, grabbing a fry and eating it slowly, three bites for one fry. She swallowed, her throat moving and then she spoke.

"I only get one hour break so this has to be quick," her voice was monotone and her eyes were on the ketchup.

Grabbing it, she squirted it on the nuggets and put one elbow on the table.

"Are you really the strongest?" Nina looked at him now. Her eyes curious.

Silas tilted his head.

"Short answer? Yes."

A long sigh and she took a nugget. The smell of salt and chicken in the air was strong. He took another sip of his milkshake.

Feeling a tingling on the back of his neck, he got curious. He wanted to know who the other world saw as powerful.

"Why? Do you know anyone stronger than me?" He asked.

Nina's cheeks were puffed with food and she took a moment to chew.

"Nurena, the monster queen," she mumbled through the food.

The name meant nothing to him but he listened as she ate in between the chatter of the customers and the music in the background.

"At least that's what my people believed. She has many names but her magic is the strongest there is. If you go there, you will probably die," she explained, eating the nugget.

The fry box was empty in her hands now, her drink half gone.

"How do I get to your world? And how did you get here?" He took his last sip of his milkshake, hearing the ice hit the plastic straw.

She shrugged.

"I don't know. I was trying to kill myself and ended up in a storm. After that...you know the rest."

Her eyes went distant at the memory.

The air felt heavy.

Finishing her drink, she stood up and a smile appeared on her lips.

"Let's go," she said.

They got up and he teleported them to the courthouse. The marble stairs and big white pillars made the building look like an ancient Roman building. The doors were dark brown with golden handles.

People were walking around, wearing suits and talking to each other, the smell of coffee was in the air and there was no sound of nature. It felt cold and stuffy. The hall was wide and had a lot of rooms for private trials and one big room for the Judge to take a case.

Nina grabbed his sleeve and they walked through the people. No one cared about them. They blended in as two random civilians who came to witness a trial.

But before the Judge's court room, Silas saw two familiar faces. Evelyn and William, her lawyer. He walked up to them with Nina next to him. Her hand still clutching his sleeve.

Evelyn raised an eyebrow.

"Hello Silas and...who is this?" She asked, glancing at Nina who was hiding behind him.

Silas smirked, patting Nina's head, making her look up with her golden eyes.

"Let's say she is Exhibit B in the case against Haden and Lucas." He laughed and Evelyn's mouth opened as she realized who the girl was.

William coughed and opened the door for them. All four of them went inside.

Lucifer was already in there sitting on her Judge seat with Isaac by her side as the bailiff. The room was rather empty except for the jury which consisted of six random awakened people and six random non-awakened people. The twelve men and women sat in their respective seats.

The smell of treated wood was in the room.

Silas and Nina sat down behind the defendant's seat that Evelyn was sitting on and William sat next to Evelyn.

Lucifer looked at him and he smiled back. She ignored his greeting and tapped the small hammer on her table.

"The court is now in session for the trial of Evelyn Everheart, an S-ranked hunter accused of premeditated murder of her family members: Haden and Lucas Everheart." Her voice was calm and professional.

A hint of amusement filled Silas. Lucifer was in a robe and everything. He couldn't wait for her reaction.

Then the trial started. There were some evidences shown like the video from the mansion that Evelyn killed her family. Mana traces and signatures.

William stood up.

"I call Silas Vane to the stand." He turned around and gestured to Silas.

Lucifer narrowed her red eyes at him. This was not on her schedule. A frown appeared on her face, she didn't object. So Silas stood up and walked up the few stairs and sat on the witness stand.

Bringing a bible out of nowhere, Isaac made him put his right hand on it. He wondered what was the point of that?

Silas raised his other hand.

"Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help you humanity?" Isaac asked.

He smiled.

"Sure. I can do that."

William started asking questions.

"Mr.Vane, where were you on the night of the murders?" he asked. A simple question. Lucifer was curiously looking at him and then she glanced at Nina who was sitting alone now, a nervous look on her face.

Silas answered.

"I was there when Evelyn killed Haden and Lucas. I witnessed everything." He leaned back on the wooden chair, it creaked under him.

Lucifer leaned forward, putting her chin on her intertwined fingers.

"You are admitting in a court of law that you watched as a woman murdered her family and did nothing?" She raised an eyebrow.

He shrugged. The court room felt cold from the air conditioning.

"Well Judge, it was justified," he answered calmly.

A silence fell in the room.

Lucifer nodded.

"Explain why the murder was justified, Mr.Vane," she said, her red eyes glowing a little.

He leaned forward, putting his hands on the wooden stand, the sound echoing a little.

"Because of sexual, psychological and physical abuse that was committed by Haden Everheart and Lucas Everheart. It's only just to put down rabid dogs." His voice was louder now and he looked around the court room at the jury.

Evelyn turned away, looking at the wall with a blank stare. Banging the hammer, Lucifer silenced the whispers in the jury seats. Her eyes locked on him.

"Do you have evidence of this abuse?" She asked.

He smiled at her, knowing that he got her attention.

"As a matter of fact I do," he said and stared into Lucifer's eyes.

A moment of silence.

"But Lucifer for that I think you need to clear the courtroom. Hide the truth from the world," he teased her. She stared at him for a moment longer.

"Are you suggesting I hide the truth Mr.Vane?" Her voice was quiet, dangerous.

His violet eyes glowed a little.

"Can you handle it, Judge Litorei?"

There were a few seconds of silence and she closed her eyes. She shook her head. Her voice was clear.

"Show us your evidence, Mr.Vane."

With a grin he waved at Nina to stand up.

She got up, her legs trembling as she came to stand before him. His hands went to her glasses, removing them. Her appearance changed into her original self, the blue skin and golden reptilian eyes, her four arms in the back, her tongue licking her sharp teeth. Gasps of shock were heard. The jurors stood up in surprise.

Lucifer and Isaac didn't move, they stayed in their seats.

Twirling the glasses in his hands, Silas smiled at the frozen Judge.

"Lucifer you can either be Judge or President but you can't have it both ways. You seem to lack a lot of information and if I were you I would start by looking into your own organization, instead of focusing on Evelyn who did the world a favor."

The room was quiet.

His eyes went to Nina. She was gesturing at her watch and pointing out the time. With a sigh, he placed the glasses back on her, covering her appearance. She looked normal again.

Then she vanished from the room in a flash. Her job was done here.

Silas walked to Evelyn, patted her shoulder and kissed her cheek. She grabbed his hand.

"Thank you," she whispered in his ear.

William coughed, and Lucifer slammed the hammer on her table. The sound was loud in the room.

"Court is adjourned!" she announced.

Everyone left and Lucifer stayed in her seat, watching Silas. Violet eyes met crimson.

They were the last ones in the room. He stood in front of her, smiling softly.

"Your move Lucifer," he said.

But the Judge didn't reply, she was deep in thought.

He left her there. Wondering what she would do with this new information. Would Matilda's legacy continue or would she be her own Judge?
