Retired S-rank father becomes a teacher

My husband sighed. His mana faded slightly and I saw a dragon come from the skies, its orange scales glinting in the wet weather. It came down next to the window, bigger than a truck with beautiful orange-red wings. Axel landed on the small window perch of the cafe. His eyes met Silas’.

“No,” my husband said firmly.

Axel made a low grumbling sound, puffing out smoke from his nose. The bell dinged and a woman walked inside, sheathing her umbrella as she entered.

“KAT!” I said, getting up to go hug my friend.

Katherine hugged me back.

I could smell the faint scent of blood on her. Her long hair was a little messy and she was wearing her hunter uniform.

She was on a job before coming here. My smile faltered for a second as I wondered if it was a hard one, if she could've gotten injured or worse.

Sitting back down, I gestured for Kat to join us. She pulled a chair back and sat.

The tension was electric between her and Silas as they eyed each other. Axel was still outside, he was her dragon so he wasn’t allowed near me. Dragon germs apparently. Silas’ logic.

Silas put his arm around my shoulder and I leaned in.

I chuckled.

“You two should really stop it. You’re making the atmosphere very dramatic,” I teased.

Kat scoffed and grabbed a fritter from his plate.

“Whatever.” She took a bite, her mouth full as she talked, “Guess who had to clean the Mariana Trench from some squid monster? Me. I hate the deep water dungeon...so many fish, and fish suck.”

Silas looked unimpressed.

My heart ached a bit. Katherine was an S-ranked hunter, the third strongest. I knew she loved the job, the feeling of being strong but I still didn’t like when she risked her life like this.

“The god mother of my babies shouldn’t be out there risking her life!” My hand went to my bump, rubbing it a bit.

Katherine choked on her fritter as I said that. Her eyes were wide with shock.

“What? Me? God... mother?” She said with a shocked voice.

I nodded excitedly. The decision was made as soon as she held up her two fingers in front of my face at the ceremony, announcing she saw my two babies before me.

My best friend was the god mother of my unborn babies. Of course. They needed a strong woman to protect them. And who was stronger than Katherine? Silas and Berlin. Still.

“Yes! My god mother!”

Silas choked on air this time. He was not informed. I turned to him with a grin.

“Surprise~” I stuck my tongue out at him.

His mouth opened and closed.

Kat leaned closer.

“What? I thought Berlin was the god father,” she said.

I shook my head.

“Berlin will be the uncle that shows up randomly and brings gifts and teaches my kids bad words,” I said as a matter of fact.

Silas pinched the bridge of his nose.

A giggle left my lips.

Kat put her hand on Silas’ shoulder and the smile on her face was pure evil.

“Sucks to be you, Vane. I am in your kids life forever,” she said.

His hand went to grab her hand, a glint in his eye. I was sure they would go at it again like they usually did. Bickering and fighting like they do.

I coughed. My babies didn’t need the stress and I needed to eat in peace.

They both let go and I ate the last of the fritters in peace. Their banter was entertaining but the way Kat said “forever” made tears come to my eyes.

I smiled warmly as we talked and the rain kept pouring.

Martha brought Kat’s coffee and then the cafe was alive with three voices.

It felt perfect. This is what I wanted. I looked out the window and at my husband, his eyes were on me. A warm fuzzy feeling filled me at the sight of his love for me.

Kat noticed it too. She cleared her throat.

“Silas are you seriously giving up on the space project?” Katherine asked as she sipped her drink. Her blue eyes glancing between me and him.

The topic of the Rosevane Era was a bit of a sore one, an era abandoned because of me, for his kids. I asked him if he wanted to do it on the side, but he declined saying his only project was our family and making sure the twins never lacked any love. The world could do whatever it wanted with itself.

My husband put down his coffee cup.

“I am retiring as a hunter.” The words were said clearly.

I blinked and looked at Katherine who was as stunned as I was. I wasn’t expecting this. Sure him not going into any dungeons was already a kind of retirement, but officially stepping down as an S-ranked hunter?

“Honey? You can’t just stop being one of the strongest,” I said softly.

“Why not?” He shrugged.

This man would make me go bald.

“There are still three S-rank dungeons that haven’t been cleared,” Katherine interjected, her expression serious now. “You won’t even go to the strategy meetings anymore?” she asked.

He leaned back again and put his hands behind his head.

“Berlin will take care of it, you too.” He gave her a lazy smile.

Katherine scoffed.

Silence again. I rubbed my stomach, a little kick made me smile. My babies were listening. A sigh escaped me.

The wind blew against the windows as if echoing my thoughts. This is what he wanted. My stomach fluttered in anticipation.

“Alright. I guess I’ll step up for this.” Kat mumbled as she finished off her coffee and stood up. Her eyes met his, a challenge in them.

Silas stood up too. They glared at each other again before Kat smirked.

“You better take care of my god-wife,” Kat warned.

He grinned, “Always.”

I hugged Kat goodbye, her warmth comforting me. Then she was gone, and the cafe became quiet again. Silas paid the bill and we left too.

Outside the sun was coming out from between the clouds and the rain stopped and we closed our umbrella's.

My husband grabbed my hand as we walked.

“So retirement... is your pension plan going to support us or what?” I joked and he laughed. His eyes were on me the whole time. It was a bit embarrassing. His stare felt like it could see through me. But it was alright, I saw right through him too.

The familiar mint scent calmed me as I walked closer to him, our steps matching each other. I leaned into him.

He was everything I could ask for. My love.
