The humidity in the air seemed to thicken as Mohammed Shami turned at the top of his mark.

The Eden Park had transformed from a boisterous rugby fortress into a cathedral of nervous whispers.

Kane Williamson, the golden boy of New Zealand cricket, stood ready.

He had watched the previous five balls of carnage from the dugout, his mind already calculating the late-play technique required to survive on this emerald surface.

The Final Ball of the Over:

0.6: Shami to Williamson

Shami delivered a thunderbolt—full, inviting, and swinging enough to tempt the drive. Williamson, displaying the technical mastery that defined his career, refrained from head-hunting the delivery.

Instead, he played it with remarkably soft hands, waiting for the ball to reach his eye line before expertly opening the face of the bat to glide it late toward the vacant third-man region.

Reading the batsman's intentions with an instinctive glance, Rocky launched himself to his right from second slip.

Ian Smith: (Standing up, voice cracking) "He's played it fine, that's classic Williamson—WAIT! NO! HE'S TAKEN IT! HE'S ACTUALLY TAKEN THAT!"

Simon Doull rose to his feet, a hand pressed to his head in disbelief: "I don't believe what I've just seen! That was past him! That was a certain boundary! How has he stayed in the air that long?"

Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri roared into his microphone: "ABSOLUTE MAGIC AT EDEN PARK! HE'S A MIRACLE IN HUMAN FORM! ROCKY RUDRA HAS PLUCKED THAT OUT OF THIN AIR! TWO IN THE OVER! NEW ZEALAND ARE IN RUINS!"

Rocky hit the turf hard, the ball clutched firmly in his right arm.

Scrambling to his feet, he hurled the red Kookaburra high into the Auckland sky and let out a primal scream that resonated to the back rows of the grandstand.

Before he could even look up, Virat Kohli tackled him in a massive hug, spinning them around in a whirlwind of aggressive joy.

MS Dhoni walked up, a rare, wide grin breaking across his face, and affectionately rubbed Rocky's head.

The veteran keeper knew he was witnessing a changing of the guard—a level of athleticism that redefined the standards of Indian fielding.

The smiling assassin, a man destined to redefine what it meant to be a gentleman of the game, stood frozen at the crease.

Kane Williamson looked first at the patch of grass where the ball should have raced away for four, and then at Rocky Rudra celebrating like a madman.

His choice of shot had been perfect. His execution had been flawless. Yet, despite his technical perfection, he had been outmanoeuvred by a level of reflexes that bordered on the supernatural.

He tucked his bat under his arm and began the long, lonely walk back, leaving the scoreboard behind him flashing a terrifying 0/2.

Ian Smith: "Look at the faces in the crowd, Simon. They're shell-shocked... Just a week ago, New Zealand was bossing the ODIs, making this Indian team look ordinary. Now? It's like they've walked into a buzzsaw."

Simon Doull: "It's the leadership. Look at Kohli. Look at the fire he's ignited. Promoting Rocky Rudra to Vice-Captain was a masterstroke. Most would say he's too young, but look at the result! It has forged a formidable 'Alpha' duo at the top. They are actively imposing their collective will on the game."

Ravi Shastri: "You hit the nail on the head! It's a complete psychological shift. In the South Africa series, those two felt like outliers... Today, the entire team has caught the fever. Shami is bowling like he's possessed. The fielders are throwing themselves at everything. This is a captain and a vice-captain leading from the front, and the Kiwis have no answer for this intensity!"

The New Zealand fans looked at one another in utter disbelief.

The gentle, passive Indian side they had easily brushed aside in the white-ball format had vanished.

In their place stood a pack of aggressive, high-energy athletes who celebrated every dot ball like a trophy.Inside the Indian huddle, the intensity was palpable.

"Don't stop!" Kohli shouted, clapping his hands so hard the sound echoed over the pitch. "They're rattled! Keep the foot on the throat! Shami, that was world-class!"

Rocky stood in the centre, his chest heaving, his eyes locked on the pavilion where the next batsman, Ross Taylor, was hurriedly putting on his gloves.

"They thought the ODIs set the benchmark," Rocky whispered to Ishant Sharma as they changed ends. "They forgot that in Test cricket, we have all the time in the world to hunt them down."

The atmosphere at Eden Park had completely flipped.

The home-field advantage had evaporated under the heat of the Indian aggression.

As Ishant took the ball for the second over, the message resonated clearly through the stadium...

The "Bad Boys" era was no longer a distant threat... it was a dominant reality.

Sourav Ganguly sat forward in his armchair, a cup of tea forgotten in his hand. Beside him, Virender Sehwag chuckled, shaking his head in disbelief at the sheer audacity of the slip catch.

"Did you see the distance he covered, Dada?" Sehwag asked, mimicking the dive. "That wasn't like a slip fielder. That was a goalkeeper."

Ganguly didn't laugh immediately. He stared at the screen, fixed on the image of Virat Kohli and Rocky Rudra standing shoulder to shoulder, glaring at the incoming Ross Taylor.

A slow, satisfied smile spread across the Prince of Calcutta's face.

It was the smile of a man who saw his own legacy evolved, sharpened, and weaponized.

"They aren't asking for respect anymore, Viru," Ganguly said softly, his eyes gleaming. "They are taking it."

"It's the attitude," Sehwag added, leaning back. "Reminds me of us. Remember the NatWest final? Shirts off, shouting from the balcony? But these two... they are colder. More audacious."

"The 'Bad Boys' vibe," Ganguly nodded, finally sipping his tea.

"The world hated Australian aggression for years because it worked. Now that we possess it? They call it arrogance."

He pointed at the screen as Shami began his run-up for the second over.

"Let them talk. Look at Steve Waugh's Australia. Look at Clive Lloyd's West Indies. Nice guys finish second, Viru. Rocky and Virat refuse to finish second. They want to finish the game before the opposition even realizes it has started."

"0/2," Sehwag grinned. "Ross Taylor is walking out to a firing squad."

"He must be feeling confused inside... Hahahahaha! Serves him right!"

Sehwag slapped his thigh in laughter.

Ganguly set his cup down, the clink echoing in the quiet room. "Good. It's about time we became the ones they fear."

Looking at the silhouettes of Rudra and Kohli, Ganguly swore that he would provide whatever support he could to them.

What he could not fully achieve during his own captaincy, these boys were bringing to life.

The grandest contribution he could offer was to shield them from the heavy pressure of the public and the media, leaving the execution entirely in their hands.

After all, everyone understood how terrifying the internet and media backlash could become if India stumbled, or if a sledge backfired.

While it happens everywhere, it's different in India... Just imagine facing the heat from 1.4 billions people.

At the same time, you'll have to deal with envy, jealousy from stupid people who have nothing to do except trying to hate successful guys.
