My Overpowered Demon System

Chapter 119: Thousand Years Too Early

Azrael stared at the attacker with raised brows.

"What is this?" he asked.

It was none other than Zephyr.

In his hand was a sleek black katana that seemed to absorb light from the surroundings.

"Nothing. I wanted to see how I measure against you," Zephyr replied with a shrug.

Azrael shook his head with a smile.

"You are a thousand years too early for this," he replied plainly, as if it was not worth his time.

Zephyr shook his head.

"You won’t know until you try."

Azrael sighed.

He could not sense any hostile intent from Zephyr, but he still found it tiring to turn a vacation into a spar.

"How about we do this when we get back to the estate?" Azrael asked.

"Tch! Chicken," Zephyr said, returning his katana to the sheath that hung beside him.

"Me?" Azrael asked, pointing his thumb backward at himself.

Zephyr nodded.

"Unsheathe your sword," Azrael said with a grin. "Seems like you need to learn some lessons."

Zephyr raised a brow.

But he complied.

There was no way he was going to ignore a chance to spar with Azrael.

No sooner had he drawn his sword than he saw a sudden flash of white enter his field of vision.

Azrael swung Zareth upward in a clean, vertical cleave toward Zephyr’s chest.

Zephyr raised his sword instinctively, narrowly catching the attack.

A tremor swept up his arm, rattling his bones and flesh alike.

He gritted his teeth as he bore the full brunt of Azrael’s strength.

The wind groaned under the weight of the clash. Sonic rings rippled through the air, creating a loud sound that threatened to deafen every being that heard it.

"Now, do you understand what I said about the gap?" Azrael asked with calm indifference.

Zephyr did not reply.

He pulled back and thrust at Azrael’s chest in the same motion.

Azrael’s body shot to the side, avoiding the attack easily.

Zephyr transitioned into a horizontal slash at Azrael’s neck.

Azrael ducked beneath the attack, letting the sword cut through empty air.

Zephyr’s leg snapped out before Azrael could rise.

’He is using his leg to fight too,’ Azrael mused in shock.

That was something only he did. At least, according to his knowledge.

He launched backward before the leg could connect.

The attack caused a detonation in the air, sending heavy gales of wind flying.

"You would have to do better than that," Azrael said with a tired sigh.

Zephyr did not reply.

He lunged.

He swung toward Azrael’s exposed rib.

Azrael moved in tandem, stepping sideways to avoid the attack.

A feint.

Zephyr pulled back before the sword could complete its arc.

He brought his katana down over Azrael’s shoulder.

"I told you before, this is still beyond you," Azrael said, his fingers catching the katana’s blade before it could connect.

Azrael’s free hand snapped outward, creating rings of condensed wind from its sheer power.

"Ahh!" A loud groan escaped Zephyr’s mouth as all the air in his lungs was pushed out.

His body folded inward, spit flying out of his mouth.

Zephyr winced as he grabbed his stomach with his other hand.

He could feel the broken fragments of bone within his body.

Azrael stared at Zephyr in shock.

"Did I put so much strength into the attack?" he wondered, holding Zephyr by the shoulder.

But a frown crossed his face.

"Why is he so light?"

His answer did not come in words.

It was a long arc of wind blade that shot from behind him, threatening to rip through his flesh and bones alike.

"Oh, that was it," Azrael said, turning back lazily.

He did not dodge the arc even as it whistled toward him.

Neither did he summon Zareth.

He raised his right hand calmly.

Zephyr blinked as he saw the next scene.

Azrael caught the arc barehanded, neither reinforcing his palm with essence nor activating a skill.

The arc was stopped mid-track.

Azrael was pushed back slightly, but that was it.

With a single gesture, the arc was snapped in two.

It was reduced to mere mists of essence in the next instant.

Zephyr stared wide-eyed, his chest rising and falling at an erratic rhythm.

Although he had not even touched the surface of his combat power, this was already enough proof that Azrael was far beyond him at the moment.

’How much stronger is he compared to Zuriel?’ Zephyr wondered as he stared at Azrael’s pristine figure.

[Trying to act cool just because you won against a child is...] Aria paused, as if finding the right word.

But Azrael did not let her complete it.

"Do you want to go again?" Azrael asked Zephyr.

Zephyr shook his head slowly in response.

"No."

Azrael nodded with a chuckle.

"Now kowtow 10,000 times to me, then maybe... just maybe, I would consider leaving you alive with a half-broken core."

Zephyr smiled in response.

"Let’s just continue our journey," Zephyr said, waving what Azrael had said off.

"What makes you think I am not serious about what I said?" Azrael asked with a smile.

In the next instant, Zareth appeared in his hand.

"Fresh demon blood," Zareth moaned in Azrael’s mind.

Zephyr’s gaze shook.

"Are you serious?" he asked for confirmation.

Azrael nodded, his body drifting closer to Zephyr.

Zephyr’s body trembled involuntarily, as if fearing what was to come.

Within moments, he could feel Azrael’s breath against his skin.

"Okay, okay," Zephyr said, raising both hands in resignation. "I would kowtow."

Then it came, uncontrolled.

"So you fell for my acting," Azrael said, his laughter erupting thunderously.

Zephyr nodded, covering his ears to block the noise.

’Who enhances laughter with essence?’ he wondered.

"I doubted with one half of me, though. It’s just that I couldn’t take the risk," Zephyr replied.

Azrael nodded.

"Let’s go," he said.

In tandem, both of them shot forward, crossing Ikos without batting an eye.

’I wonder how they manage to be so cringe every day,’ Azrael mused as they flew.

He had tried to scare Zephyr to see if doing so had a kind of thrill.

But it was bland. At least, to Azrael.
