My Overpowered Demon System

Chapter 72: INFERNAL FRUIT

Azrael watched Clara’s severed arm fly through the air.

His eyes flickered with anger as he turned toward Jasmine.

Jasmine reacted with a casual smile, as if what she had just done was nothing.

But beneath that smile, the danger that lurked was unhidden.

[Do not try anything. You cannot fight her.]

The system reminded him calmly.

Azrael exhaled slowly, turning away from Jasmine.

’I know.’

He looked at Clara, who had not moved or twitched even as he arm tore apart.

"Why are you so calm after losing your arm?" He asked.

"I am a maid. Even if I die, I cannot argue with my Lords," she replied.

Azrael sighed at her words.

’Such a messed up world,’ he thought.

"Do you have a regeneration skill?" He asked.

Clara nodded immediately.

Azrael bent and picked the arm up from the floor.

"Here," he said, holding it out to her.

"Thank you, my Lord," Clara bowed, taking it from him.

"Go to your room," Azrael said with a nod.

He did not move from where he stood, choosing to watch until she was safely inside.

But just in front of the door, Clara stopped.

"Lord Azrael, your clothes are packed in this ring," she said, holding it out with a bow.

"Thank you," Azrael said, taking it from her.

He had been wondering whether to buy clothes from the system earlier.

Thanks to Jasmine’s demands during those seven minutes, he had not had a moment to think about anything practical.

He slipped the ring onto his pinky finger.

Clara bowed with a small smile before stepping into her room.

Azrael watched the door close behind her, then entered his own room.

None of this had been witnessed by Jasmine, who had walked into her room casually after severing Clara’s arm.

Azrael looked around.

The room was modestly decorated. A single bed at the center, a small wardrobe, and a bathroom.

Three windows, two above the headboard and one facing outward from the left wall.

Rion dropped from his shoulder, landing on the floor with a soft thud.

Azrael watched him with a quiet smile.

’She is genuinely unhinged,’ he said to the system through his mind.

Even alone, he chose not to speak aloud. A house built by Jasmine was almost certainly connected to her in some way.

[And terrifying,] the system replied.

"I hope I can reach tier six quickly and get out of this place."

The essence garment wrapping his body dissolved and he stepped into the bathroom.

The sound of water hitting tiles broke the silence for a while before going quiet again.

Azrael stepped out, still dripping.

"She forgot a towel," he muttered.

He let essence wrap around his body, drawing the moisture away with its warmth until he was dry.

A few minutes later, Azrael sat on his bed in his pyjamas, back against the headboard.

"System, I want to use the skill fruit I was given," he said calmly.

[Since when do you need my permission?]

"I am telling you so you can get your camera ready."

[Huh?]

"You might want to capture the moment my true greatness begins. Use it as your new background."

The system did not reply.

Azrael pulled the red glowing fruit from his spatial ring.

The power it gave off was far more subdued than when Morgana had held it in the council chamber. But even in this dormant state, it surpassed anything he had felt from a Mythic grade fruit by a significant margin.

He stared at it for a long moment, studying every part of it.

Then he threw it into his mouth.

His teeth broke through the skin.

A jolt ran through his entire body and he trembled.

Before long, paralysis set in. His eyes went wide.

It felt as though his body was being shattered and rebuilt at the same time.

His mind went numb.

Then he passed out.

For a moment, there was only silence.

Then the system’s screen flashed.

[Just capturing greatness.]

A smirk emoji accompanied the words.

In the next instant, its background changed.

To the image of Azrael slumped across the bed, eyes wide open, red veins crawling across his irises. His mouth agape. His body sunken into the mattress as though whatever had been holding it up had simply left.

Even unconscious, his body was rebuilding itself.

Essence moved through every part of him with uncanny precision, finding each crack and filling it.

His internal organs were not spared.

His cells were reforged, the old ones dissolving and being replaced by golden cells that hummed with raw energy.

His blood shifted until it ran gold.

His bones grew denser with each passing second, hardening until they rivaled steel.

His brain drew in every drop of excess essence to reinforce itself.

The red veins across his eyes receded, replaced by threads of pure gold.

His ears strengthened, elongating slightly at the tips.

His hair began to change, the deep crimson giving way to creeping shades of gold and white.

His skin tightened, growing firmer, thicker, a natural defense forming without a skill to prompt it.

His height increased at a rate visible to the naked eye.

Then his heart stopped.

For over ten seconds it remained still, a dormant cavity as essence poured into it like a dam breaking open.

It swelled. Pushed against its limits. Threatened to burst.

Then it deflated.

And the process began again.

His face grew pale, then clearer, the features settling into something sharper and more defined than before.

At this moment, Azrael looked less like a demon and more like something that had descended from a plane far above this one.

Everything about him radiated power.

And he was not even awake.

Then his body detonated with raw essence.

He broke through to tier three in a single moment.

The system captured all of it.

[What kind of fruit was that?]

It mused to itself, genuinely uncertain about what Azrael would look like when he finally opened his eyes.
