Saturday afternoon arrived surprisingly fast. They finished their last class for the day, and the lunch period began. Yelena was looking forward to this day, though she was also nervous about it. She had never been on a date, and while she had planned some things, there was no way of telling how it would go.

After a quick stop at her room to get ready, she stepped out and made her way towards the school’s entrance. They agreed to meet outside in the front garden, near the gate. She picked up the pace, not wanting to be late.

When she arrived, Lily was already waiting for her near the gilded iron gates. They both wore their school uniform; there was no need to get too fancy. It was simple and comfortable after all.

“Is that really necessary?” Lily asked, pointing at the sword hanging from Yelena’s hip.

“You can never be too careful outside. Tagalo might be a fairly safe city, but you never know.” Yelena shrugged.

Lily chuckled a little at hearing that coming from this girl. She was sure Yelena could wrestle a bear with her bare hands without much of an issue, not to mention she had magic that could turn someone into a pile of ashes in a moment. There was no real need for the sword, too, but Lily wasn’t bothered by it, so she didn’t argue any further.

“Let’s get going then! We have a lot to take care of.” Lily said and started walking.

Yelena quickly walked next to her and matched the smaller girl’s speed. They indeed had a lot on their plate. First, picking out a dress. Yelen knew from experience that this process could take a long time. Finding a good one was not easy, and she sure won’t let Lily walk out in something less than perfect.

Then, of course, the lunch, although it might be a little late to call it that. Either way, Yelena had already picked a place where they would go. From what she heard, it was a nice restaurant, but not too high-end as to be intimidating for Lily. The perfect place. Then, depending on what time they finish, they might be able to just spend some time walking around the city.

There was just one thing that cast dark clouds over this seemingly perfect day. Yelena’s new appendage made its appearance again. She obviously cursed Lucia to hell and back for that. It wasn’t the end of the world, but it was still something that Yelena wasn’t fully used to and was a bit distracting.

The two walked down the street connecting the academy to the rest of the city. This part was fairly sparsely populated, but it didn’t take long for that to change. As they walked farther into the city, more and more people began to appear, walking through the streets, busy with their daily lives.

It was not a new thing from Yelena. She had been here many times before, and even the city she came from, Xlaan, was pretty large, too. It was Lily who had some troubles with it. For her, seeing this many people around was a little overwhelming.

Emib was a smaller town. A couple of hundred residents, most. Here, those numbers were close to hundreds of thousands. That is how big Tagalo was, and it wasn’t even the biggest one in the country.

Needless to say, this change was a bit jarring. Yelen noticed that, and she reached her hand out and grabbed Lily’s. The short redhead turned towards the taller girl, and she nodded with a smile on her face. She didn’t have to worry about anything as long as Yelena was next to her.

“So, have you thought about what we talked about during class?” Lily asked the question.

Yelena knew what she meant. Earlier today, they had some discussion during magic class. It was a period where they were practicing, so they could talk without being reprimanded for interrupting the professor.

Their discussion was mainly centered around the point system and, most importantly, the job board. Sooner or later, they had to start doing things. It was better to start sooner. They all knew that.

The point system didn’t just serve to encourage students to compete against each other. It was also a tool the school used to measure students' capabilities and effort. During the year, they will set out so-called targets. The students would need to reach a certain number of points in order to meet this target. Those who can’t will be penalized and given a demerit. After three such demerits, they would be expelled.

Early on, these targets were not super difficult to meet, but as they moved forward, it became harder and harder to reach the next one. Despite how idyllic their first week seemed to be, they were aware that the Laffey was a cutthroat place.

Each year, hundreds of new students start their studies here. By the end of the first year, roughly a quarter of those students would wash out. By the end of the second, less than half of the original numbers would remain.

This is why the conversation was important. They all knew they had to start working on getting more points, preferably before the first target was even announced. Yelena was already at a good spot after winning against Valerie, but neither Thea nor Lily had managed to get a single point since the start of the year.

“Yeah, I still think we should wait. At least until we manage to learn the Vareen and get it to the first level. Then we can comfortably pick up combat jobs.” Yelena was adamant about her stance.

The job board offered both combat- and non-combat-related tasks. For obvious reasons, combat-related were by far the most popular of the two. Not only does it give more points, but it also allows them to test their skills in a real-life situation. It was the best way to improve, and they all knew that.

“I know, but I still think it would be a good idea to go out and test the waters with some non-combat jobs. There is no telling how long it will take to actually learn how to use Vareen. The instructor said a week, but also said it could take longer. We can’t waste time waiting around in hopes that we will be fast.” Lily argued her point.

Both sides made sense in their own way. Yelena didn’t want to waste time on taking up pointless busywork for just a couple of points. It is time they could use to focus on their training. On the other hand, Lily thought every little thing counted, and it could help them get ahead of the curve.

Generally, all jobs were designed so that students would need to pair up or form a full team to tackle them. This was especially true for the combat jobs. There was no doubt in their minds that the three would join together. Although it was still not a full team, there was also the issue of finding additional members if they wanted to take on the actual lucrative ones.

“Well, let’s not dwell on this. At least not today. We are here to be together and have some fun. We still have plenty of time, some other day to make a decision.” Yelena ended this conversation; she didn’t really feel like souring the mood with this.

“You are right, today is about us.” Lily agreed.

It didn’t take long before the two arrived at the tailor’s shop. Yelena already knew the place; it was the best in the whole city. Lily peeked through the window, seeing several mannequins displayed, all wearing fancy, and rather expensive-looking dresses.

Yelena already opened the door and waved Lily inside. The interior was really pretty. It was nicely decorated, with different types and colors of fabrics neatly organized on the shelves, and, of course, some of the prettiest dresses on display, worn by the mannequins placed around the store.

As soon as they entered, a woman came rushing towards the two to greet them.

“Good afternoon, young ladies. How can I help you today?” She asked with the strongest customer service smile Lily had ever seen.

“We are looking for dresses for both of us.” Yelena pointed at Lily.

The woman sized up the two and nodded a few times.

“Okay, what is the occasion? Need something more casual or formal?” She asked, trying to figure out what the girls were looking for.

“Let’s say, semi-formal. It will be for an event in the Laffey Academy. It is not fully formal, but there are expectations of course.” Yelena explained the best she could.

The woman seemed deep in thought; she was probably considering what would best suit the two of them, given what they had in store.

“Understood! I have a few ideas, but before that, let’s take your measurements.

The woman already pulled out a measuring tape, from gods knows where, and grabbed Lily to start with.

“Sammy! Come out and help with the customers!” She shouted towards the door behind the counter.

A girl, roughly their age, stepped out of the door. Judging by her facial expression, she wasn’t all that happy to be here. Still, she grabbed a measuring tape and got to work on Yelena.

The whole process took a while; both were extremely meticulous about every single measurement. No wonder the shop was considered the best. They took this very seriously. Even Sammy, who still looked like she would want to be anywhere else, but here.

When she started measuring Yelena’s breast size, the girl stopped.

“Holy boobly monster! What do they give you to eat at the academy?” Sammy’s words came as a surprise to all inside the room.

Yelena’s eyes opened wide; she didn’t know how to answer such a question. Sure, her chest size was on the bigger side, but not that much. She should see Lucia. Now those were big.

Lily, on the other hand, started giggling uncontrollably, having her own measurements even more difficult. Not that the woman actually could focus on that after hearing those words.

“Sammy!” The woman shouted towards the girl. “I told you countless times not to speak in such an inappropriate way with the customers!” She was visibly red with anger.

Sammy, on the other hand, just shrugged and continued her work like nothing had happened. The two had a feeling that this wasn’t the first time something similar happened.

“I’m terribly sorry for what my daughter just said. I hope you can forgive her. She tends to speak before thinking.” The woman shot an apologetic glance towards Yelena.

Yelena was sure baffled after hearing that, as well as a little embarrassed, but she wasn’t mad about it.

“It is okay! Don’t worry.” She answered back.

She wasn’t the type to cause a scene about something minor like that. Soon, the measurements were done, and luckily, without any other crude comments.

Once that was done, the dresses came. So many dresses. The girls spent roughly an hour and a half trying on different clothes. It seemed that each time, Sammy was the one who gave the most input on them.

She was critical, overly so. Seemed like nothing was good enough; she could always find something to criticize. Not about the girls, but the clothes, and how they fit or made them look. Despite her attitude, which still screamed that she didn’t want to be here, she clearly had a good eye for this, and nothing but perfect was acceptable for her.

The whole process was more exhausting than the two thought it would be. Especially for Lily, who wasn’t all that used to this. Yelena has already been in similar situations more than once, so for her it wasn’t that bad.

Lily pulled the curtain open that divided the changing room from the main floor. She was wearing a beautiful green halterneck dress. The front part was properly covering Lily’s smaller chest. Thin straps ran around her neck, holding the dress up. Thanks to the design, her shoulders and her back remained exposed.

The lower part was on the longer side, reaching down to her knees. She turned around, showing it off to Yelena and the two others.

Sammy seemed to be satisfied with this one. Yelena was speechless. Over time, she saw the girl in many different styles, but this one somehow fit her very well. She looked stunning.

“Wow! You look beautiful. I think this might be the one.” Yelena said, once she was able to speak again.

Lily looked back at the mirror inside the changing room. She was still stunned that it was really her. She could barely recognize herself in such expensive clothing.

They didn’t have much time to stand around and admire Lily before Sammy shoved another dress into Yelena’s hand and instructed her to try it on. She walked into the changing room and started undressing.

She quickly looked at the design and realized it was likely one of those that shouldn’t be worn with a bra. She was not exactly happy with that, but not much she could do. She removed her bra as well and started putting the dress on.

Yelena was halfway done putting on the dress when she heard the curtain pulled open for a second, then closed again. She looked back, only to see Lily had entered. The redhead girl put her finger against her own lips, instructing Yelena to stay quiet.

“What are you doing here?” Yelena whispered it to Lily.

“Don’t worry, some other customer came in, and they went to attend to her. We should be good for a couple of minutes.” There was a dangerous smile on Lily’s face as she got closer to Yelena.

“I don’t think it is a good idea.” Yelena protested.

She already had a feeling for what was going on in Lily’s head. Soon, her fears were realized when she felt the girl’s hand running up her thigh.

“No, it is not, but that is what makes it more exciting, isn’t it?” Lily asked in a sensual manner.

Her hand went further up and reached Yelena’s panties.

The lower part was similarly slanted. The right side was a fair bit higher, going down only to the middle of her thigh, while the other end was reaching her knees.

In the middle of the chest area, there was a fairly sizeable hole cut, leaving the sides of Yelena’s breasts completely exposed. It was pretty much a boob window.

Lily was nodding along as Yelena spun around to show off her dress. She clearly liked what she was seeing. Even Sammy looked more or less pleased with the results. Looks like after a good while, they both finally found their dresses.

Lily went to quickly look around in the store more, and Yelena was about to step inside the changing room to get dressed again. Sammy stepped beside her, causing the girl to stop for a second.

“Your girlfriend is not as subtle as she thinks she is.” Sammy said it straight out.

Yelena’s mouth opened when she heard that. She wanted to deny it, but she realized it was pointless.

“Good that you didn’t go for it. I wouldn’t care, but my mother would have freaked out, and that is not something I want to deal with. So, please just play your games somewhere else.” She finished, then she walked away.

Yelena was truly shocked. She looked at Lily with menacing eyes. Luckily, the shorter girl didn’t notice, as she was browsing some shoes.

“If you ask me, I think it was too bad you didn’t go for it. It would have been an interesting experience.” Lucia also had to chime in and give her own, twisted opinion.

Yelena was at a loss about what to do about these two. She was just glad Lily couldn’t hear the goddess; otherwise, they would surely conspire.
