I Evolve 10,000 Times Faster

Chapter 53: Intimate Transfer

The cultivation room was a small space with padded floor, reinforced walls and no windows. The Aegis Ward hummed at full power, visible as a faint blue shimmer across every surface. It was the most secure room in the house, designed for deep meditation and absolute privacy.

Holden set Lyra down on the mat carefully.

She looked fragile in a way she never had before. Her frost-robes were stiff with crystallized moisture. Her blue skin had a translucent quality that made her look like a glass statue. Tiny frost patterns spread slowly across the mat under her, creeping outward from her body.

He knelt beside her and recalled Vespera’s instructions.

"Skin-to-skin contact at the primary meridian points. Upper back along the spine. Center of both palms. The energy must flow directly. No barriers."

He looked at Lyra’s frost-robes. The fabric was thick, designed for combat protection. It would block the transfer completely.

He took a breath and got to work.

His fingers were steady as he unfastened the outer layer of her robes along the shoulders. He folded the fabric back carefully, exposing the upper portion of her back. The skin there was pale blue and cold to the touch, but undamaged. The primary meridian points were visible as faint lines running parallel to her spine, each one glazed with a thin layer of frost.

He adjusted the sleeves next, pulling them back to expose her palms. Her fingers were curled slightly inward, stiff with cold.

He placed his hands on her back.

The cold was intense. It bit into his palms like dry ice. His natural body heat meant nothing against the runaway freeze of a collapsing star-core. If anything, the cold tried to spread into him.

He closed his eyes and reached for Asura’s Ignition.

Not the combat version. Not the destructive red flame he used to break armor and split skulls. This was different. His 1,000x multiplier gave him control that no other practitioner could match. He could feel the power inside him moving like a living creature. He was so careful with it that he could guide every bit of it with total control.

He turned the heat down. Way down. From a furnace to a candle. From a candle to a warm breeze. He found the exact temperature Vespera had described. Warm enough to thaw. Gentle enough not to burn.

Crimson light glowed faintly under his skin.

The energy flowed from his palms into Lyra’s back.

Hiss.

The moment fire met frost, steam erupted. Thick, warm clouds of white vapor rose from the contact points and filled the room like fog. The temperature shifted. The biting cold softened. The frost on the mat beneath Lyra stopped spreading.

Holden held the flow steady.

It was delicate work. Too much heat and he’d damage her meridians further. Too little and the frost would overwhelm his energy and keep spreading. His 1,000x processing speed let him monitor the transfer in real time, adjusting the output microsecond by microsecond.

The steam grew thicker. The room became a warm, hazy blur of white vapor and soft crimson light.

Minutes passed.

The frost on Lyra’s back began to recede. The blue tint in her skin lightened by a single shade. Her breathing deepened. The cold radiating from her body weakened, pushed back by the steady flow of warm fire energy.

Holden shifted his position to reach her palms. He cupped each of her frozen hands in his, pressing his thumbs against the center meridian point. The frost in her fingers crackled and melted.

The process was slow. Every minute felt like an hour. Sweat beaded on his forehead from the constant adjustments required to maintain the perfect temperature balance.

His arms started to ache. He ignored them.

More steam. More time.

The blue color in Lyra’s skin faded another shade. Her lips, which had been the color of ice, started to regain a hint of pink. The frost crystals in her hair began to shrink.

Then she moved.

A small twitch of her fingers. A soft exhale that wasn’t quite a sigh.

Her eyes opened.

They were unfocused at first, hazy with fever and confusion. She blinked slowly in the steam-filled room, seeing nothing but white vapor and faint red light.

Then she felt his hands on her back.

She felt the energy.

It felt like an endless supply of warmth. It was like a deep well of power moving from his palms into her frozen body. She already knew he was strong, but she wasn’t expecting this. The energy she was feeling wasn’t the output of a Rank 1 fighter pushing beyond his limits.

This was controlled. Effortless.

Her breath caught.

She didn’t speak. In that quiet, steam-filled room, with his warm hands on her skin and his vital energy wrapping around her shattered core like a protective shell, she understood something that words would have ruined.

He was hiding. Not just his strength. Everything. The real Holden was so far beyond what he showed the world that the gap between the two was almost incomprehensible.

And he was using all of that hidden power, right now, just to keep her alive.

Her eyes stung. Not from the fever.

She leaned back.

Slowly. Gently. Her head found his shoulder and settled there, her cheek pressing against his jacket. She let her weight rest against him. Not because she was weak. Because she trusted him completely. Implicitly. In a way that didn’t require a word.

Holden didn’t move.

He kept the energy flowing.

Minutes turned into an hour. The steam thinned as the temperature in the room leveled. The frost on Lyra’s skin continued to recede, inch by inch, until her natural color returned. Her breathing became strong and even. The cold that had been killing her retreated to a distant memory.

Her voice came soft. Barely above a whisper.

"You’re always saving me."

"Someone has to keep our spear fighter out of trouble."

A small smile formed at her lips. She didn’t lift her head from his shoulder.

"I guess I’m stuck with you now."

"Looks like it."

The steam curled around them as the last of the frost melted away.
