Idol Gunner [Yuri Villainess LitRPG]

Album 1, Track 29: Stick and Sting

The demons kept coming, as if they were dying to die at her hands. Kana had nothing to complain about it, to be fair, but she couldn’t help but be annoyed at their utter lack of survival instinct. Atlas and Jina had gone on such an existential spiel about how they were apparently sentient. And yet, here they were – rushing straight into the group of girls with guns, swords, and grenade launchers as they mowed them down.

For the girls, it was good news. Kana had already crossed the five-hundred kill streak and was fast approaching a thousand. On top of that, there were still thousands more waiting for her to finally bless them with a nice, round explosion. The joy in her had no bounds. This would be the end of Ruby Passion Jr., and everyone present there knew it. Well, the ones with actual, working brains, at least.

RiRi was using an automatic pistol, which seemed to have poisoning effects of some sort. It just seemed needlessly overkill at first glance, but the more Kana thought, the more it made sense for a literal war like this. Every bullet she shot had the chance to hit a monster and apply the poison effect. Even if it didn’t kill them, it probably gave her a small number of points for the application itself.

The fact that she hadn’t been able to climb the ranks with a gun as broken as that told Kana everything she needed to know. Her little sting about small dreams earlier had not been sharp enough for a girl like this. So, she jumped down from her vantage point and dropped down right between RiRi and Jina.

“It’s perfect, isn’t it?” She addressed Jina first, who was currently taking a short break to stretch her arms.

“Oh, it is!” The girl laughed, “Nobuko-chan will be surprised to see our points, huh? I’m pretty sure we’re already touching their numbers by now. That Tanaka is gonna have a hell of a day tomorrow.”

“Today, you mean?”

“No. Tomorrow. Cause the points will be calculated at one in the night. That’s tomorrow!”

Kana looked away from the goth bitch and decided to pretend she hadn’t heard any of that. It was often a mistake to talk to some people. RiRi was the one to focus on, then. She was going wild with her bullets, which Kana guessed contained some hatred that had been born because of her.

“RiRi, what do you think of this, huh? Perfect spot for some good old farming, isn’t it?”

“You stumbled upon a natural occurrence and immediately disrupted it. It’s not a farming spot. This is just a once-in-a-lifetime massacre that probably can’t be replicated again.” She started with a massive load of bullshit, “You’re proud of yourself for this? Look at the Angels. You think they’re glad you got them into this.”

Sure enough. The Fluorescent Angels did seem quite stressed and overwhelmed.

“I guess.” Kana shrugged, “But who cares. They’re just here for, like, moral support? Covering our bases? Something like that. They’re not gonna get fourth place either way, so they’re the only ones we can use to keep Ruby Passion Jr. down. Good for them, though. I got them that spot.”

A couple of party poppers appeared on the edge of her screen, and the panda on the corner jumped in happiness. All he usually did was sit there, so that was a bit of a surprise. Kana guessed that was just a special animation for the one thousand kill streak. It was cute.

“Kana…if you’ve got nothing to actually say, then leave me alone, please. Just tell me when we’re gonna have to withdr-”

“What the fuck is that?!” Saturn was the first one to notice them and screamed as soon as she did.

Kana looked at where she was pointing, and her heart skipped a beat. She wasn’t ashamed to admit that it shook her a bit. Four monsters, larger than the rest, were walking on two legs with loincloths around their waists. One had four arms, one had a tail and looked like a lizard, one had very clear wings which it did not seem to be using, and the last one was just…tall. Very tall. And he was carrying what seemed to be a large stick.

“Is that just…a very large stick? Is he carrying a very large stick?” Jina scoffed.

“Yeah, but I don’t think that’s how you’re supposed to react to that. We really should leave.” Atlas added a hesitant laugh with the statement to emphasize her point.

“Leave?” Kana laughed, “Oh, come on, we can get them. We killed that massive spider all by ourselves. These are way smaller. He literally just has a stick. It might be large, but it’s wooden.”

“Kana, those spiders are barely alive. They can’t think straight, let alone strategize. Those guys can…clearly do better.” RiRi expectedly sided with the Angels.

“Uh, no. I think we can take them. Sword vs. stick. Sword wins. That’s science.”

Kana nodded, “Thank you, Jina. That’s the spirit! Keep shooting. The bastard with the stick gets highest points.”

She prepped herself and shot. The grenade flew and landed square in the middle of the four walking monsters. The fire and dust went up and engulfed the little ones who got caught in between. Another twenty-six kills were added to her already mammoth tally, which got Kana smiling. Was that it?

When the dust settled, though, it became clear that that wasn’t it. In fact, it was far from it. Every single one of the larger monsters had grabbed some of the smaller ones from the ground and held them in front of their bodies as shields. Now, they tossed the charred carcasses of their underlings aside and kept walking. For some reason, the large stick of the Large Stick Demon was also completely intact.

“Well, isn’t that interesting?” Kana nodded, taking note of the behavior.

“Oh, fuck that.” Atlas took a few steps back and looked at the other girls. Saturn and Neptune did the same, nodding. The leader of the Fluorescent Angels started to move up the rocks behind her and shook her head, “We’re out, Kana. You couldn’t convince us to go through this shit.”

“Hmm. Suit yourselves. We’ll be taking that fourth spot, then!”

As the Angels withdrew, Kana aimed her grenade launcher and fired once more. This one caught them off guard for some reason and caused the Large Stick Demon to use its stick to redirect it. Kana clicked her tongue. This repeated blocking was starting to piss her off. She wondered if those smaller ones had learnt it all from this dude. What a pain. She had to reload, too.

The Lizard Demon suddenly got on all fours and started to close in. Shoving the mess of smaller monsters in front of it with its tail, it hissed and hopped forward. Its scaly hands grabbed onto the fallen monsters, and it started to toss them. Before they could reach Kana, however, Jina got in the way and slashed through the bodies with her sword. The blood fell right into their eyes, but it was better than death.

Ready with the launcher now, Kana aimed past Jina’s shoulder and shot. Whizzing past the goth girl’s ears, it hit the Lizard Demon in the face. The fire covered the view once more, and RiRi started taking steps backwards. It looked like she was planning on leaving, too. But if she did that, their points would drop drastically. The drip feed of the automatic poison pistol was too valuable to give up right now.

“RiRi, get back over here!”

“No. You either handle that on your own, or step back too. I’d recommend the latter, by the way.” She kept moving back, still shooting once in a while to keep any of the monsters from getting too close.

Kana looked back at the four with a groan, only to see that the Lizard Demon was unharmed. Some of its ugly brown scales were burnt, yes, but they just fell off and left it in a pristine state once more. The time that the battlefield had taken to come back into focus had also allowed the three other Big Demons to get closer. This was starting to get on her nerves.

“Kana, don’t you think we should withdraw?” Jina uncomfortably stuttered, taking a single step backwards to stand shoulder to shoulder with her.

“Stop speaking nonsense, Jina. Do you see those things? If the spider gives 25k, then what do you think they give? It should be insanely high, right?”

“Well, we won’t be here to find out if your grenades aren’t doing anything to them.”

“Yeah, but I’ve got something else.”

Kana put the launcher away and took out her second weapon. Jina, meanwhile, continued to slaughter any of the monsters who got too close. The four were close, but not enough to get them just yet. They were probably just trying to scare them for now.

Level 2

This was it. It could get at least one of them. She was confident. Aiming it, Kana trusted Jina enough to keep the pesky little bastards out of her way. Ignoring the constant sounds of the wildly slashing blade, she aimed for Large Stick Demon. He had been pissing her off a bit too much, and clearly had it coming. Calming herself down, she waited until the bar filled up.

And then, she shot.

The resulting explosion caused the entire ground to shake. The sound tore through the field, and even the army generals far away shrieked in response. As the dust-laden shockwaves made their way through the air, Kana waited for something to happen. Anything was good enough. Even some information to tell her that he had died.

She would have normally relied on the kill counter to clarify everything for her, but it was still in the streak. It wouldn’t show any stats until she actually stopped for long enough and received all of those points. Even now, more than twenty kills had been added to the total, but there was nothing telling her that this was the Large Stick Demon.

Nothing, of course, ever would. By the time she was able to see once more, it became apparent that they were way out of their league here. The demon was still standing and had used its large wooden stick to block the attack. Despite being slightly blackened due to the gun, the weapon also seemed unharmed.

“That’s not allowed, is it?” Kana groaned out of annoyance.

“Oh shit.” Jina took out her hammer to knock away some of the monsters who had gotten too close, and ran back to stand beside her, “You know, I’m starting to think that we should…”

“But that just wouldn’t be righ-”

Large Stick Demon jumped. Not just a regular jump, but a jump that suited the large stick that it was carrying in its hands. High up, almost thrice its height, it aimed for Kana and Jina’s position with its stick held like a walking cane. All they could do was look up. Kana stuttered, unable to come up with a plan quick enough to deal with something like this.

Thankfully, Jina pulled her away in time. Grabbing her hand, the girl pulled her out of harm’s way right before the stick hit the floor and sent tremors that put the railgun to shame. Kana scrambled her way up, and the two of them started running away. Looking back, she noticed that the crater it had created was almost a meter deep and three meters in diameter.

With a large wooden stick.

Kana cursed him under her breath, “We’re gonna fucking get him.”

“Yeah, but later, right!?”

“Of course, you fucking idiot. Keep running!”

It prepared to jump once more, and the other three demons started to prep for their moves too. Then, out of the barren lands, a barrage of light bullets slapped all of them one by one. It did not seem to do any damage at all, but the suddenness of it had been enough to buy them some time. That, and that poison effect that came along with it.

“This way!” RiRi waved her hand to attract their attention. Both girls changed their path and ran straight for where she was standing with the Fluorescent Angels. As they ran, Kana’s streak finally ended and gave her a solid number.

Monster Kills +88350

Explosion Kills +1460

Railgun Kills +200

Ninety thousand points and some spare change. Almost their entire count from the first day, and that was just her. Jina had her own points, and so did RiRi. This was exactly what she had been expecting. Not on this scale, but this is what she had been prepared for. Together, they had probably gotten more than 250k points from this little skirmish alone. That would easily put them ahead of Ruby Passion Jr.

And yet. Yet. She couldn’t smile. As she ran, all Kana could do was grit her teeth and promise herself that this was just a tactical retreat. Brute forcing was not going to solve her problem, so this was the smartest thing she could do. She was just going to have to think up a plan and come back to kick their asses.

Large Stick Demon was gonna get it the next time she saw that bastard.

_____________

Most of the rest of the day consisted of killing any extra monsters they found in the wild and surviving. A lot had followed them from the war, while some of the Big Demons were most definitely searching for them.

Kana spotted the Wing Demon flying in the air quite a few times, but they successfully stayed out of its line of sight. Other than that one, the Lizard Demon was another that kept getting its claws in their business. The group had to keep running over and over again to find shelter. The major issue with doing that was losing their way. So, they stuck to the locations they identified and tried to hide beneath larger rocks.

Eventually, as the day passed, Kana and Jina’s inventories came in handy. They had a bunch of food and water stored in them, and it was passed on in small quantities among them all. Every time she opened hers, Kana was forced to look at the folded letter Keiko had written her. It was burned in her mind, and she still never dared to either re-read it or throw it away. No. She wanted it to stay there forever and remind her of those words forever.

Not that she could ever forget them.

The day passed somehow, and they started to rush for the boundary as soon as it was eight in the evening. If they did not get inside on time, Kana wasn’t sure if the system would let them past it or not. By all means, she wasn’t interested in finding out either. Even experiments had their limits, and she wasn’t a science kind of girl anyway. They were on time, though, so there was no need to think too much about that.

Once they got in, the real challenge would start. The one where they would need to deal with the Coalition and their own presidents. They had gotten the points for which they went out. More than 300k by now, and that wasn’t even counting the points they had gotten last night, and were going to get tonight. But even with those points, nobody was going to let them go without a little fallout.
