Chapter 54: A guilty conscious
Andrew was now the nervous wreck of the pair as they stepped into the elevator to go to Maxwell’s parents apartment.
He had known Maxwell came from money, but he hadn’t fully processed what that meant.
Until now.
They had been picked up by a driver, which wasn’t the strange part. Andrew had been a driver for Maxwell for six months, give or take. That was fine. What he hadn’t expected was that they were going to drive into a part of town that Andrew had only heard that people lived in.
It was so rich, Andrew had heard rumours you couldn’t even buy in the neighbourhood. You were grandfathered in. So when the car stopped at a huge high-rise in the area, Andrew’s head began to spin.
Maxwell had seemed upset, and Andrew was too worried now to ask why. Maxwell’s jerky movements gave his temperament away, but Andrew was trying to regulate his breathing.
Once inside the elevator, and after making sure that the flowers were upright, Andrew took in the fact that there were several floors that were blocked out. Swallowing, he glanced at Maxwell, who was tapping his foot impatiently.
"Uh, why are there some floors missing?" Andrew asked, ignoring the fact that Maxwell had pushed the topmost button.
"Oh, that’s because several of the apartments are several storeys. My parents’ condo is three storeys high. It’s actually-no, I’ll confront them about it later." Maxwell sniffed, crossing his arms, and Andrew stared at the smaller man, trying to soothe himself.
Giving in, he bent over and sniffed at Maxwell’s nape, inhaling his comforting scent and felt himself calm almost immediately. Maxwell gave him a startled look.
"Are you alright?" Maxwell asked, his voice softening and Andrew nodded.
