Chapter 32: A freak like me

Andrew stared at Maxwell, and the way he was holding the cookie with two hands. A part of him relaxed, a part he hadn’t even been aware was tense.

"How’s the cookie?" He asked, smiling at the other man. Maxwell’s shoulders immediately tensed, but he nodded.

"It’s good." He said, munching quietly and Andrew’s heart squeezed in his chest. He liked watching him enjoy something that he had made. It made a part of him relax, bring his shoulders down. Provide a comfort he hadn’t expected.

"Good." Andrew said, smiling. Maxwell glanced at him, before quickening his pace until the cookie was gone. Then, he dusted his hands off, and wiped at the corners of his mouth with his fingers, cleaning up any crumbs. Andrew watched him warmly.

"Andrew, why did you let my Father into the house?" He asked, tense, and Andrew shrugged.

"Well, there are a couple of reasons." He started, and Maxwell gave him a glare. Andrew’s smile widened. "First, I thought it was Michael at the door so I didn’t even check the peephole. Second, we have security around the house now, so I doubted they would let anyone in who wasn’t verified by you, and third, he’s your Father. Why would I prevent him from entering?" Maxwell sighed, running his hand through his hair and Andrew clenched his hand. Now that he had certain rights over Maxwell, and thinking about him, he couldn’t stop his mind from wandering.

Fuck, the man was hot. When he raised his hand like that in a suit? Fuck. Andrew knew he was hard now.

"Andrew, just because he’s my Father, doesn’t mean you should let him in. The same goes with the rest of my family. We don’t really get along, and I don’t want you to have to deal with their unpleasantness." That response surprised Andrew. From the way Maxwell’s Father had behaved, he would have guessed it was the exact opposite of what he was saying. His Father seemed to care a great deal for Maxwell, but maybe they weren’t the best at communicating.

Well, actually, were there many people out there who were able to read Maxwell well? Andrew was only confident because he’d spent quite a bit of time with the man, but if he came from a family that was full of people who were just like him...Andrew could see how Maxwell could come to the conclusion that they were on bad terms. After all, he didn’t have to take time to learn and read others’ patterns. They would be easy compared to Maxwell. Especially Andrew, if he was honest with himself.
