Chapter 31: The one who can tame him

"Now then, now that that’s dealt with, what the hell do you think you’re doing here? And after I told you everything yesterday? Did you think I would appreciate this? If I knew this was going to happen either way, I would have taken Andrew somewhere else, and I would have hired my own security." Mr. Beckett went white at Maxwell’s words, and Andrew felt bad. He wasn’t a bad guy, he just cared about his son.

Maybe not in the best way, but hey, he was trying. That was better than his father.

"Max-" an angry glare was shot in his direction and he sniffed, lifting his glasses to wipe his tears. "Sorry, Angel, don’t be too harsh on him. He was just looking out for you." Maxwell’s glare was directed at everyone in the room currently. It only softened on Andrew because his eyes were red from crying.

"How can you say that? He made you cry." He protested, and Andrew let out a wet laugh.

"Angel, if you already consider us an item, I was going to have to meet him anyways. Maybe I would have hoped for under different circumstances, and when I was at my best, but that isn’t something I can control. Nor can you, apparently." That didn’t completely soothe him, but Andrew was getting somewhere with his coaxing.

"But still...you cried. I hate seeing you cry." Maxwell muttered, and the part of his heart that Maxwell occupied swelled. Andrew exhaled slowly, quietly, before leaning down and planting a kiss on Maxwell’s forehead. He knew his cheeks were pink when he pulled away, but the look on Maxwell’s face was worth it. His ears were bright pink, and his blue eyes pools of deep emotion.

"We’ve established I’m a cry baby, haven’t we?" Andrew joked, and Maxwell frowned.

"You aren’t a crybaby. You’ve had a very stressful two weeks, and your body is changing. Your emotions are going to be all over the place, and we don’t know what the end results will be." Maxwell protested, and Andrew smiled. Slowly, hesitatingly, he placed his hand on Maxwell’s cheek, stroking the skin there with his thumb.

"Still, your Father was just looking out for you. A strange man enters your life, enters your house, and apparently you bring me up casually? I can only imagine what I’d do if the roles were reversed." Maxwell grumbled, a frown on his face. His forehead drew together and Andrew resisted the urge to kiss the wrinkle. It was clear that he didn’t like that Andrew was making a clear point.
