Chapter 88: The Joys Of Anguish
"OH GODDESS IT BURNS!!"
"IT BURNS SO BAD, WHY!!?"
"JUST WHY?!!!"
"WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!!!!"
"MASTER GILDHART, HELP!!..... THE PAIN!!!"
"MY SKIN....."
"I THINK MY SKIN IS PEELING OFF!!!"
"MY EYES!!.... I AM BLIND....OH, GODDESS, I AM BLIND!!!"
"THIS IS HELL THIS IS HELL THIS IS HELL!!"
Cries of anguish pooled in from every corner of the smoke-filled large room. Bodies crawled on the floor, frantically trying to locate some sort of exit.....
Their faces were marred in snort and tears, reddened like a grapefruit as they rolled around the ground in horrific pain. Their sight was gone, with a persistent, agonizing burning ravaging through them. Their skin felt like it was being peeled right off.
Some of these noble servants who hadn’t really known hardship were thrown into a situation that made them begin to beg for death to claim them. Heads bumped into each other on the ground as everyone tried with all their might to locate the exit and leave this hell.
If anyone had told Gormak earlier that day that they would be going through such anguish for simply messing with a mere commoner mortal, they would all have spat in that person’s face in disbelief.
Now they had realized they had messed with a literal demon.
When they saw this person bring that unfamiliar object out of the water, right then, right there, they wished they had run out.
Then he brought out three more of them, before sending a bone-chilling smile in his direction in particular; then he removed something so fast from the four of them, before tossing them with incredible speeds in all four directions.
One of the objects was heading straight for Gormak, so he cleaved it apart with his weapon. Biggest mistake of his life, as the smoky substance inside exploded directly on his face before erupting in all directions, and quickly following, the other three erupted with similar vile demonic essence, sealing their fate into seemingly unending misery.
Gormak, amongst all the others, had it worst; he began stripping and rolling around on the floor in anguish, like the others also discarding his weapon and trying to feel their way out of the room, but every action they attempted only made the pain grow so much worse.
"Somebody please...just kill me!....end my suffering!!" Another noble cried bloody tears.
Even Gildhart and the stronger ones of the bunch were not exempt; though blinded and in extreme anguish, they were actively trying to call to one another so as to find their way out.
Ben stared, befuddled, at the chaos ensuing in front of him. He was still butt naked, but now standing all the way at the entrance, natural power coating and swirling around his entire form, as he looked ahead at the suffering group of nobles.
"It’s that strong ?" Ben murmured, genuinely perplexed. He did not expect the tear gas to be doing so much damage to these people.
Ben had seen tear gas being used before, and had also been on the receiving end. It was never to this degree. Even if he had used it indoors, it shouldn’t have been this powerful.
These are people who naturally possess at least two times the strength in constitution as compared to those from Earth, yet they were going through such excruciating pain.
"Note to self. Things from the system shop are always outrageous." Ben murmured as he made a mental note.
Looking ahead, he could see that the stronger of the group, with Gildhart at the lead, was starting to regain some sense of direction and crawling on the floor towards the entrance.
With a blank expression on his face, Ben walked out of the room with his clothes in hand. He wasn’t particularly thrilled about seeing people suffering like this, but he needed to deter further attempts at him, and this was the only viable idea that came to mind at the time.
Since he was alone, Ben engaged his realm speed and literally blurred through the corridors until he reached his room.
He disengaged the outward manifestation of his natural power, which had only consumed a quarter of his total capacity even though he had used it for several long minutes, and it began to recover rapidly.
Since his clothes had already been doused in the gas, he had to get them cleaned or simply dispose of them. Dropping them off to the side of his table, Ben retrieved fresh outfits from the box to the side of his bed, and then changed into them.
As Ben fell back onto his mattress, a thought then occurred to him.....
"Shit....I forgot to remove the canisters."
In his hurry to leave the place, Ben had picked only his clothes and forgotten to remove the containers of the tear gas he had released in there.
Going back there wasn’t an option since most of them would have regained some sight, and Ben also didn’t feel it mattered that much.
"Meh... what could they even do with it?"
He concluded in his mind, relaxing back. Ben doubted anyone would take interest in the canisters, and even if they did, there was nothing they could do with them.
"Wait... where are the girls ?"
Ben suddenly realised the twins weren’t here. He had told them to go to his room, do nothing, and wait for him. But they were nowhere to be found.
"Hmm....I don’t have a good feeling about this." Ben murmured. For some strange reason, he wasn’t feeling relaxed with the twins’ absence. His body shuddered autonomously, as if sensing something.
Somewhere else on the west wing, Kiara and Ryn were seen following behind someone through the corridors, heading in the direction of the bath.
"Um...Kia.....do you think it will be alright?"
Ryn whispered in cautious hesitation, her gaze alternating from her sister and back to the person walking quietly ahead of them, the sounds of her steps barely registering.
"I mean... they offered to help so..." Kiara whispered back to her sister, also looking very pensive.
They had reached the base of the hunt squad, and while they explained what had happened to the three people they were familiar with there, hoping to get their help, someone else they weren’t expecting....
Someone who gave most people literal chills and a primal fear had suddenly appeared as if from nowhere and had offered to help.
Ryn took a deep breath, looking to her sister as she whispered in a tremble.
"But, Kia..."
"This is Lady Luna we are talking about."
