The first answer to Oda’s request came back without a date.
That was how everyone knew it had learned.
Not enough to be clever.
Enough to become more annoying.
The receipt arrived the morning after Sawamura’s briefing, folded inside administrative gray, stamped with Independent Review custody, and phrased as if every missing answer had been replaced by a chair no one wanted to sit in.
Oda placed it on the archive table.
Daigo took one look at the seal.
“No”
Sawamura, who had been standing beside Moriyama with the careful posture of a man trying not to inherit a function by accident, looked at him.
“Is that a procedural objection or emotional classification?”
Daigo stared.
“I hate that you asked correctly”
Sawamura nodded.
“Both, then”
“Do not become tolerable before we decide what you are”
“I will attempt to remain provisional”

Sawamura read it upside down.

Daigo looked at Rei.
“He is doing it on purpose”

Tomonari had three slips ready but had not uncapped his ink. Miyo stood near the window this time, not the corner, which meant either she wanted to be seen or the corner had become too expected. Hayato sat beside her with his notebook closed, one thumb pressed against the edge of the cover.
Moriyama tapped the letter.
“Read”
Oda read aloud.

That was deliberate.

“And you asked me to stop you if you turned guilt into movement”

“We need a process before priority”

Everyone looked at her.
She continued “We need loss before process”
The room went still.
Oda’s brush stopped.
Miyo looked at the three notices.
“If we process first, we make one absence the clever answer. Name what each loss is before deciding which one moves tomorrow”

“Correct”
Daigo muttered “Correct good”
No one smiled.
Oda placed three blank tags in a row.
At the top of the first, she wrote:

“Originals. Loss: direct evidence. Chain spine. Stronger proof than memory. If unavailable, absence copies must carry more than they should”

Tomonari flinched.

Daigo looked at him.
“You wanted the records”
Tomonari said “I still do”
“Good. Keep wanting. Do not let tomorrow use it”
Tomonari nodded.

No one spoke at first.
Hayato did.
“Loss if ignored: she leaves and the room keeps working like her being gone is only a schedule problem”
Daigo looked down.
Akiha said “Student impact statements could preserve function loss”
Tomonari said “But if written for Independent Review, they may become testimony shaped by the review’s questions”
Miyo said “Optional statements are not optional if silence later means no impact”
Sawamura said quietly “And if everyone writes, the review may say students are being coordinated into impact”

Oda wrote under Kitahara:
