Why Is This Omega Stalking Me…?

Chapter 69: The Answer Was Always There

Chapter 70

When Shen Yu entered Lin Yushen’s house, he was immediately greeted by a soft scent that smelled faintly of rice milk and jasmine. The fragrance was warm and gentle, wrapping around him the moment he stepped inside. Shen Yu let out a quiet sigh as he stood there for a second, allowing the familiar comfort of the omega’s pheromones to settle over him.

Following that scent was another—sweeter, richer—the unmistakable smell of baked cookies and chocolate milk.

That made him sigh again, though this time for a different reason.

He had almost forgotten how Lin Yushen, just like Jiang Li, had an annoyingly strong sweet tooth. Back when they had grown close, Lin Yushen would constantly push sweets onto him, insisting that Shen Yu "needed sugar to live a little."

Shen Yu closed the door behind him and stepped further inside.

The first thing he saw made him pause.

A baby sat on the floor, staring directly up at him with narrowed eyes.

Shen Yu actually flinched.

Lin Yuze was sitting there with a carrot-shaped rubber toy stuffed halfway into his mouth, drool sliding down his chubby chin as he chewed on it. His round eyes were narrowed suspiciously at Shen Yu, as if silently judging him.

For a moment, Shen Yu didn’t know how to react.

Then he let out a soft chuckle and bent down, picking the baby up with ease.

"What’s wrong...?" Shen Yu murmured, adjusting the small bundle in his arms. "Where’s your father...?"

Lin Yuze responded with a string of incoherent babbling, his tiny hands waving slightly while drool continued to gather at the corner of his mouth. The carrot toy remained firmly in his grip.

Shen Yu couldn’t help but stare at him for a moment.

He was... undeniably cute.

As he looked at the baby, a soft voice suddenly echoed in his mind.

"Beanie..."

It was Jiang Li’s voice.

The faint smile on Shen Yu’s face slowly faded.

His gaze lingered on the child in his arms before he let out a quiet breath and pulled the baby a little closer, resting his forehead lightly against Lin Yuze’s soft stomach.

"I don’t know what to do... Xiao Ze," he muttered under his breath.

Lin Yuze tilted his head as if trying to understand, then let out another string of babbling sounds, lifting his carrot toy higher as if offering it.

Shen Yu chuckled softly at the gesture.

"What’s got my ge sighing like this on Christmas?"

Lin Yushen’s voice suddenly came from the side.

Shen Yu lifted his head and looked over, finding Lin Yushen leaning casually against the kitchen doorway. When their eyes met, Lin Yushen pushed himself off the frame and walked over, reaching out to take Lin Yuze from Shen Yu’s arms.

The baby clung stubbornly to his carrot toy, his eyes still fixed on Shen Yu as if guarding it.

Shen Yu noticed that look and chuckled quietly before walking over to the couch and sitting down.

Lin Yushen watched him for a moment before following and sitting beside him, silent, waiting.

But Shen Yu didn’t speak.

He leaned back against the couch, one hand resting over his eyes, blocking out the light.

Time passed.

After a while, Shen Yu became aware of something else—the subtle increase in Lin Yushen’s pheromones. They were still soft, still gentle, but noticeably stronger than usual.

He lowered his hand and glanced at him.

Lin Yushen was gently brushing his son’s thin hair, his expression calm.

"Are you in heat?" Shen Yu asked.

Lin Yushen froze slightly before shaking his head.

His cheeks were faintly flushed, though not enough to suggest a full heat.

Seeing Shen Yu’s doubtful look, he sighed.

"I was in heat two days ago... I’m not now," he said simply.

Shen Yu nodded, accepting the answer, and leaned his head back again.

Lin Yushen let out a quiet breath before standing up. He placed Lin Yuze carefully beside Shen Yu and walked into the kitchen. A moment later, he returned with freshly baked cookies, placing them on the table, followed by two drinks—hot chocolate for himself and a cup of bitter coffee for Shen Yu.

Once everything was set, he sat down again, wrapping a blanket loosely around himself as he picked up a cookie.

"What happened...?" Lin Yushen asked softly.

Shen Yu remained silent for a while before reaching for the coffee. He took a slow sip, letting the bitterness settle on his tongue before finally speaking.

"I’m confused... Yushen," he admitted quietly, his gaze drifting to the television, which was playing a brightly colored children’s show.

Lin Yushen didn’t interrupt.

He simply listened, taking a sip of his hot chocolate, his head tilting slightly as he observed Shen Yu’s expression.

Those dark eyes that were usually unreadable... calm... distant—

Now they were filled with something else.

Something complicated.

It made Lin Yushen smile faintly.

So love really does change a person, he thought, though he kept that to himself.

"Ge... do you remember that girl from overseas?" Lin Yushen asked after a moment. "Blond hair, blue eyes... I think her name was Angel."

Shen Yu frowned slightly at the sudden change of topic but nodded.

"I remember."

"She liked you a lot," Lin Yushen continued. "She didn’t want anyone else to show her around—only you. Everyone at work knew."

He paused, turning to look at Shen Yu more directly.

"What I want to know is... if she did all the things Jiang Li has done... would you forgive her the same way?"

Shen Yu stilled.

"How many times has Jiang Li broken your trust?" Lin Yushen continued quietly. "How many times did you say you’d stay away from him... and yet here you are?"

His voice remained calm, but his words were deliberate.

"If it were Angel... would you forgive her this many times, ge?"

Shen Yu froze.

Would he?

After everything with his family... after forgiving them over and over again, hoping they would change—

He had learned something.

Opening your heart again to the same person who hurt you... wasn’t something he would easily do.

So why—

Why had he kept forgiving Jiang Li?

Because every time Jiang Li cried...

The first thing he wanted wasn’t to leave.

It was to make him stop crying.

His gaze drifted back to the television.

A small animated mushroom character was walking in the rain, holding an umbrella as it sang cheerfully. Around it, others shivered in the cold, but the mushroom didn’t seem to mind.

Then it noticed a small strawberry trembling nearby.

Without hesitation, the mushroom handed its umbrella to the strawberry.

Only then did it step into the rain itself.

Shen Yu’s eyes lingered on the scene.

All this time, it hadn’t cared about the others.

But the moment the strawberry was uncomfortable—

That was when it chose to act.

Slowly, Shen Yu looked down.

Lin Yuze was clapping his tiny hands, laughing happily at the show, completely absorbed.

"Ge..."

Shen Yu lifted his head at the sound of Lin Yushen’s voice.

The omega was smiling at him softly.

"I think you already know your answer... deep down."
