World’s Cutest Alchemist

Chapter 108 - The Parents (3)

“So,” Mama looked at me, “Where’d do you keep your potions?” She asked.

“Oh! Come! Let me show you!” I quickly got up, “Follow me!”

Mama, Papa, and Luna followed me to the closet. Though, both Luna and Papa had to stay out since it’d be way too cramped for all four of us to fit in it.

“They’re all in here,” I said, leading Mama inside, “Once I move into the house, I plan on buying more pleasing containers, but for now, they’re all in these boxes.”

Mama crouched down and picked up a [Sweet Fatigue Potion].

“That’s a fatigue potion,” I explained, “When you’re really sore or exhausted, drinking it will help you a lot. It certainly helped me.”

“Oh? It’ll help when you’re sore?” Mama asked with a sly smile.

“Mm.” I nodded.

“So, after an intense session, drinking one of these could help you go again?”

My face flushed immediately,

“W-W-What are you talking about!?” I exclaimed.

“A workout session of course,” Mama showed me a teasing smile, “What kind of session did you think I was referring to?”

“A-Ah…” I let out. Gah! “Ahem,” I cleared my throat and covered my face, “It’ll definitely help ease any muscle soreness and fatigue.”

“And will it help in bed?”

“Hoik!” I coughed, “M-Mama!”

“I mean will it help while I’m laying down? Or do I need to be actively moving for it to work?”

“Y-You’re doing this on purpose!”

“Doing what on purpose?” Mama asked with an innocent expression, “I’m just asking how it works.”

“You’re choosing your words to make me think you mean it in other ways! You bad person!”

“What other ways could there possibly be?” Mama smiled, “If those are the things you think of immediately, perhaps the bad one isn’t me, but…”

“No! No! No!” I shook my head with force, “Stop teasing me!”

“Pfft!” Mama started to laugh, “Oh, my adorable little baby,” She hugged me, “I can’t help it, you’re just so cute.”

“Hmph! At least you’re right about one thing.”

“Haha,” Mama chuckled, “So, these fatigue potions of yours,”

I flinched. No! Don’t do it!

“Are they any different than other fatigue potions?” She asked.

Phew…

I internally breathed a sigh of relief when I realized she was actually talking about the potion now.

“Of course they’re different! These ones are special!” I proudly puffed out my chest.

“Oh really?” Mama smiled, “Then, sell them to me. I’ll determine if I’d want to buy them or not right now.”

I pondered the task for a moment. Several methods came to mind immediately; Like, just try a sample and if you don’t like it, then it’s not for you. Or talking about the quality for the price.

But inevitably, I ended up on a more fun sales tactic.

I hugged Mama’s stomach and looked up at her face with puppy eyes,

“Mama! These potions were made by me, your baby, herself! Won’t you buy them for me?”

Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author's consent. Report any sightings.

“Give me the whole box, now.” She immediately replied.

“Hehe! Task complete~!”

“Ah,” Mama let out, her mouth opening wide but words failing to come out. It seems like she completely forgot that just moments ago she asked me to sell them to her, “Pfft! Hahaha!” She started to laugh.

“Alright, fine,” Mama said, “I’m sold. You know what you’re doing, so I’m not going to lecture you about it.”

“Hehe.” I giggled.

“Can I drink this?” Mama asked, “I’ve seen the praise about them online, but I’ve never been able to purchase them myself. They’re always sold out.” She said, eying the over a dozen boxes I had, “…It doesn’t seem like there’s a lack of supply though.”

“Of course! Please drink as much as you’d like!” I cheerfully said. Did she say something else though? I can’t remember if she did.

Mama rolled her eyes as she uncapped the bottle. First, she took a whiff of the potion and her brows furrowed then raised.

“Strawberry?” She asked.

“Hehe.” I smiled as my reply.

Realizing she wouldn’t get any answers from me, Mama lifted the potion to her lips and tilted it almost vertically. She decided to just drink it all in one go.

I watched as her face went through several different reactions; First was surprise, next was curiosity, and the final was delight.

She audibly gulped as she finished the entire potion in a second.

“This…This is pretty good.” Mama said after savoring the taste for a moment.

“Hehe, isn’t it!?” I smiled from ear to ear, puffing my chest with pride. “Everyone always compliments them!”

Mama grabbed another potion, this time, a mana regeneration potion. She uncapped it and drank it.

“They all taste the same, Mama.” I chuckled, “I use the same flavoring method for all of them.”

“Hm…” Mama didn’t immediately reply and picked up another potion, but instead of drinking it, she inspected it.

“What’re you doing?” I asked.

“I see, I get it.” Mama suddenly said, she turned to me, “I know the reason why no other potions can replicate the taste of yours.”

“Eh?” I tilted my head curiously, “It’s cause I use homegrown strawberries, no?”

“Oh? You grow your own strawberries? Get me a bowl later, please.”

I nodded.

“But, that’s probably only a part of the reason why.” Mama said, “The main reason is due to your innate mana.”

“My innate mana?”

“Yes,” Mama nodded, “Every awakener’s mana has some specialties to it. One of them is taste.”

“Taste? You can eat mana?”

“Hm, well, technically you can, but that’s not what I’m referring to. I’m talking about production-classes, especially ones that work with food or drinks. Like alchemists or chefs.”

You can eat mana!? What!? We’re just skipping past that!?

“Whenever a production class works with something meant for consumption and they use mana, some of their mana merges with it. It’s unavoidable. Sometimes it’s overpowering, other times it helps the taste a lot. And it seems like yours, is particularly a nice taste.”

“Well, obviously, I’m the bestest after all.” I nodded, “But, you’re telling me, a chef class could have terrible tasting mana and it’d ruin all the food they cook!? That sounds horrible!”

“Yeah, that’d be unfortunate. But, there are ways to change the taste, like raising your mana purity and drinking potions. Though, classes related to food or drinks usually don’t have mana that taste like crap.”

“Mm…Well! Whatever!” I shrugged, if I had good-tasting mana, that was only a positive.

I should test it out later though. If I just drink a glass of water imbued with mana, how would that taste?

“Oh?” Mama curiously said, crouching down, she was looking at the box with my dynokali potions in it, “These are…”

“That’s my dynokali supply!” I said, “Just don’t open any of them or else we’ll both go boom!”

Suddenly, behind me from outside the door, I heard and saw both Papa and Luna backing far away.

What’s got them so scared?

“Mama you scared them.” I pointed at the door.

“Well, Marcel’s a coward. That’s expected.” Mama shrugged, “But, my daughter-in-law too, really?”

“Right, right? I just don’t get it.”

We both shook our heads with a sigh before Mama started to inspect the potion.

“These look fun!” Mama said.

“They’re a blast!” I nodded.

“Can I take some? It’d make my next tower run way more exciting.”

“Of course! But! Don’t take all of them! They’re a real hassle to make!”

“Hey! Wait-wait-wait-wait!” Papa was suddenly in the doorway, “No! You can’t bring any of those with you into the tower!”

“What? Why not?” Mama glared at Papa.

“Yeah! Why not! If Mama wants to bring dynokali potions with her, let her bring them!”

“No way! If I allow this, the guild leader will kill me!”

“Huh? Is the guild leader more important than your beautiful, pitiful wife, dear?” Mama pitifully said, wiping her eyes.

“Papa! You’re making Mama cry!” I hugged her.

“She’s not crying at all! I see that smile on her face!” Papa exclaimed, “There’s no way she’s even thinking about using them practically! She just wants to scare everyone!”

“What!? Do you really think I’d do such a thing?!”

“Yes!!”

“Tch.” Mama clicked her tongue under her breath.

“Mama, I’ll give you some secretly later.” I whispered.

“Fine! I’ll put them back!” Mama pouted, turning around and putting the dynokali potion back in the box. While she was facing away from Papa, she secretly nodded at me and mouthed ‘Thank you’.

After that, Mama, Papa, and Luna headed back to the table. I was left in the closet packing a box of potions to give to them.

As Elara and Marcel took their seats, Luna cleared her throat to draw their attention,

“Ahem, mother-in-law, father-in-law,” She said, “P-Please a-accept my gift.” She placed the bottle of wine she purchased from the exchange on the table and politely bowed.

This was her first time in her life every buying alcohol. She had looked online for hours to find the best rated bottle.

“Oh? Chevra-Martins,” Elara said picking up the bottle, “You didn’t have to buy us a gift, sweetie,” She smiled, “This stuff is expensive, you know? Aren’t you and Stella looking to buy a house soon?”

“We are, but, I c-couldn’t not give you something…” Luna said.

“Thank you for this, Luna.” Marcel said, “We’ll drink it well.”

“Mm…” Luna nodded nervously.

Setting the bottle to the side, Elara gestured to the chair,

“Please sit.”

“R-Right!” Luna replied, hurriedly taking a seat.

“Pfft, you don’t have to be so nervous, sweetie. We decided on not eating you.”

“!” Luna flinched.

Marcel shot a glare at Elara, “She’s teasing you, don’t take her words seriously.”

“Relax, darling,” Elara chuckled, “If she’s dating our daughter, she can handle a bit of tease.”

Luna flinched again, her cheeks slightly turning red.

“So,” Elara propped both elbows on the table, interlocked her fingers and rested her chin on her interlocked fingers as she looked at Luna, “It is dating, correct?” She asked.

“Y-Yes!” Luna straightened her back, “W-we’re dating.” She nodded with a flushed face.

Seeing that Elara stayed silent and continued to stare at her, she felt the need to explain it more,

“I-I…” Luna took a deep breath and focused on her words, “I really love Stella, mother-in-law. I’d crawl across the world for her; I won’t let any harm happen to her, I promise that.”

But, even after she mustered up her courage to say that, Elara still didn’t speak just continuing to stare a hole into Luna.

Luna’s nerves shot to the maximum. Her legs twitched and her eyes darted around the room as she tried to find out what to say next, “U-U-Um…” She stuttered, “I-I-I…”

“Haah…” Finally, Marcel sighed.

“!” Luna flinched, wondering if she said something wrong.

“Don’t worry, Luna,” Marcel said immediately, “I’m not sighing at you, I’m sighing at…” He turned to look at his wife, “Knock it off already.”

“Pfft!” Elara started to laugh.

“H-Huh…?” Luna was left confused. Wasn’t the atmosphere just now very serious and tense…?

“Elara was just messing with you.” Marcel explained, “Neither of us have any problem with your relationship. In fact, we encourage it.”

Hearing those words, Luna internally let out a huge breath of relief. She had read one too many books where the protagonist’s parents disapproved of their relationship. She was thankful that that wasn’t the case.

“That’s right,” Elara nodded after calming down, “If Stella’s happy, and you’re happy, then we’re happy.” She smiled, “Instead,” She leaned forward, “Tell us about how it started.” She said with sparkling eyes, Elara especially loved hearing romance stories, “Start with when you two first met.”

“O-Okay…” Luna nodded. Though it was a bit embarrassing, a part of her was happy.

And so, she began to tell the story. Starting with when they first met on a game, 3 years ago.
