Chapter 56, A Potion on the Street
“Another method?” Euphemia showed a thoughtful expression. “If you have some shameful past or little secret you don’t want anyone to know, I can help you find a few reliable Mind Readers. Even if they learn about it, they won’t go around talking.”
Freya shook her head.
“It’s not a shameful past. It’s a secret that really, really matters.”
“Is it about your ability to see the future?” Euphemia asked.
Freya had already said this when they first met. She would not explain the source of her future information. Euphemia was quite curious about what was going on, but since Freya resisted the idea so strongly, she naturally would not keep pushing. Digging too deeply into something like this would only damage their relationship.
“Then that’s fine,” Euphemia said. “I’ll look through some old texts first and see if there are any other methods. We can put the memory-reading option aside for now.”
Freya looked a little embarrassed.
“Anyway… sorry to trouble you.”
Euphemia waved it off.
“It’s fine, it’s fine. Small problem!”
Freya thought for a moment, then said, “Actually… if there really isn’t another way, maybe we can try looking for a Mind Path potion? If I take the potion myself and read my own memories, would that work?”
After all, after they had “killed” Jerome and saved the city, her system had upgraded again. As expected, this upgrade had added a new third save slot. In other words, she could now cultivate another new clone.
“Huh?” Euphemia froze. “Are you serious? Every person only gets one chance to choose a Path. You want to walk the Mind Path just to investigate those countless blessings and countless resentments on you? If you ask me, you’d be better off taking the Earth Path or the War Path.”
Freya said, “Maybe I have something similar on the Mind Path too. Maybe I won’t need digestion and can rush straight to Rank Five.”
A huge question mark practically appeared over Euphemia’s head.
Then she pressed her lips together, took a deep breath, walked up to Freya, and pinched both of her cheeks.
“You. Are you seriously not showing off on purpose?”
Freya’s words came out muffled.
“Mmph, I’m not~”
After finally escaping Euphemia’s grip, she caught her breath and continued, “And I said maybe. I’m not sure either.”
“Mind Path potions…” Euphemia said. “Those are hard to get. I don’t have any channels for that, and I don’t know where to find one. But I can get Scholar Path potions. Do you want to try those and see if you can drink a Scholar Path potion without digestion and advance directly?”
Freya actually showed a serious expression.
“That might work?”
Euphemia did not hesitate either.
“Then fine. I’ll write to my grandfather later and ask him to get two bottles for me.”
The two chatted for a while longer. After that, Freya left Euphemia’s new rented apartment and returned home.
Because it was already rather late, Euphemia even asked whether she should walk Freya back in case some street thugs targeted her. Freya refused.
“It’s fine. Did you forget I can see the future? Nothing dangerous will happen on the way.”
However, Euphemia frowned. Through microexpression observation, she seemed to notice something. She reached out and pinched Freya’s cheek again.
“You’re lying to me. No. I’m walking you back, and that’s final.”
In the end, with Euphemia accompanying her, Freya returned home safely.
Only after Effie left did Freya settle down and begin studying her system. She discovered that aside from the new save slot, the maximum duration of a single simulation had also increased from one month to two months.
This was, of course, good news for her. A longer simulation meant she could see further into the future and make more moves. If she had been able to simulate two months from the start, she would not have missed that Fate potion from Special Affairs.
In that case, did this mean she had a chance to obtain that Fate potion?
But after thinking about it, Freya realized that Special Affairs only had one Fate potion, and there was no follow-up. For the new save slot, drinking the Scholar potion Effie could provide might be better.
Aside from that, the thing Freya cared about most was naturally the timing of the third death crisis.
She looked at the bottom of the system panel.
[Time remaining until the next death crisis: 1 year, 2 months, and 13 days.]
“So long!”
But the moment those words left her mouth, Freya suddenly realized something. The longer the death crisis was away, the safer she would be during this period, right?

Wasn’t that a good thing?
For quite a long while after this, she would not need to run around because of an approaching death deadline. She could live comfortably for some time.
People really were complicated creatures.
Freya still remembered how, when she had first crossed over and first came into contact with the extraordinary world, she had been extremely excited. She had imagined herself gaining superpowers and becoming unrivaled in heaven and earth.
But after truly coming into contact with the extraordinary and experiencing so many things, what she wanted most now was a good rest.
Because Freya was, in truth, a rather lazy person. That much could be seen from her first reaction after obtaining the system. She had wondered whether there was a beginner gift pack, and whether she could get money from it.
“Mmph. It’d be great if I could get stronger automatically without doing anything~”
Freya flopped onto the bed, buried her face in the soft pillow, then hugged it tightly and rubbed her cheek against it.
After staying motionless like that for a while, Freya slowly sat back up.
She could not forget that Life Freya was still outside.
After all, she had asked the Earth Church for help. Once the matter was over, she could not just ignore everything and leave. So Life Freya had followed Archbishop Pantheon and the others back to the church and stayed there for quite some time.
Pantheon did not ask about her origins. Instead, he seemed to turn on full praise mode, constantly praising her for being cute and praising how timely this support operation had been.
Of course, in the end, the core question still came up. He asked Life Freya what she planned to do next.
Life Freya was sitting on a chair in the church at the time, legs together, hands resting on her lap. She looked extremely well-behaved. After thinking for a moment, she said, “Mmph~ I may stay in this city for a while.”
Hearing that, Pantheon’s eyes widened. Just as he was about to say something, Life Freya added, “But I have somewhere else to stay. I won’t usually remain at the church. Still, when I have time, I’ll come here often and help everyone.”
Although this was not exactly what Pantheon had imagined, the result was still quite good.
It was equivalent to the Earth Church in Auxerre City gaining a Rank Five Saintess for no reason at all.
As for Life Freya, Freya’s main body would definitely continue living in this city for a long time. During that period, there was no telling what might happen. She might still need to use the identity of Life Freya and ask the Earth Church for help. That was why she said this now.
Of course, when she said she would help the Earth Church when she had time, that was true as well. The Earth Church had helped her so much. It was only right to repay them.
After finishing her conversation with Pantheon, Life Freya hopped down from the chair and left the Earth Church.
On her way back, she first went to the clothing shop that had made the special Saintess outfit for her in the simulation. Although it was already very late, the shop was still lit.
Through [Mind Sense], Life Freya could see that the old seamstress was still rushing to finish clothes. She quietly crept to the door, secretly pulled it open just a crack, and used her ability.
A wisp of pure [Life Energy] spread out and flew into the old woman’s body.
After doing this, Life Freya vanished from the spot. Freya, who was at home, had recalled this clone.
Then, inside her own bathroom, Freya released Life Freya first.
After Life Freya took off all her clothes, Freya released War Freya as well. As expected, the moment War Freya appeared, her wrist was still spraying blood everywhere. Life Freya, as the healer, naturally got splattered all over.
Freya could only say she had been very farsighted.
Otherwise, if Life Freya’s dress had been splattered with blood, it would have been very, very hard to wash.
It was worth mentioning that if Freya entered a simulation using the save file of “War Freya” or “Life Freya” and died inside the simulation, she could choose not to save, so there would be no effect.
But if the save file of War Freya or Life Freya was killed in reality, then that would be a real death.
If Freya wanted to create those save files again, she would have to run through another simulation with her main body. That would be extremely troublesome.
That said, this did not have much effect on the current Freya. If a clone was about to die, she just had to recall it into the system storage. With Life Freya, this super healer, as long as someone was not completely dead, they could generally be saved.
The treatment did not last long. War Freya’s injuries healed completely, though the bloodstains remained.
After that, War Freya and Life Freya took a bath together and thoroughly scrubbed the bathroom. By the time they finished everything, two hours had passed.
Freya casually recalled War Freya into the system, then continued using Life Freya as a body pillow and slept comfortably through the night.
The next day arrived.
Because Freya had asked her teacher for leave yesterday, even though the matter with Jerome had now ended and she could theoretically go to class, the leave had already been granted. Going back to class now would be such a waste.
And so, Freya lazily spent the entire day doing nothing. She curled up in bed until noon, then went to play with Euphemia for a while in the afternoon. On the third day, she returned to school and attended classes as usual.
Just like that, Freya’s life temporarily returned to peace.
It was as if this world had no extraordinary powers at all. As if she really were just an ordinary high school girl.
The only difference was that as she became familiar with Effie again, the number of times she returned to her own home gradually decreased. A lot of the time, she simply stayed overnight at Effie’s rented apartment.
However, it was worth mentioning that on the tenth day, something happened that even Freya did not know how to evaluate.
That evening, just after school, while she was on her way to Euphemia’s home, she picked up a potion.
It was inside a briefcase lying on the ground. No one knew who had lost it. The briefcase was open, and the potion bottle had rolled out of it, all the way to Freya’s feet.
When she passed by, it happened to be near a corner. She did not see it right away and nearly stepped on the bottle.
At first, Freya thought it was an ordinary glass bottle. But when she curiously picked it up and saw the liquid inside glowing with wisps of pale white light, she instantly realized it was probably a potion.
The problem was, why would a potion of unknown Path and unknown Rank appear in a place like this?
Just then, a light breeze blew past.
Freya raised her head and looked around, trying to find the owner of the potion and the briefcase. Aside from some children who seemed to have just gotten out of school and were playing around, there were no other adults on the whole street.
Among those children, two began chasing each other. It seemed one of them had suddenly kicked the other in the backside, then ran off laughing, while the other chased after him in embarrassed anger.
The two of them came straight toward Freya.
Because the first child kept looking back at his friend while running, he would definitely crash into Freya if she did not move. So she took a step back to make room.
But that step was the problem.
Because of the breeze just now, a pen had rolled out of the briefcase and happened to stop right under Freya’s foot. She stepped on it without noticing and instantly lost her balance.
“Eh~ eh~”
After struggling for a few seconds, the child happened to run right beside Freya. Although he did not crash directly into her, the two brushed against each other.
That became the final straw.
Freya fell flat on her back, and the potion in her hand slipped loose and flew out.
“Crack.”
With a crisp sound of breaking glass, the pale potion spilled all over the ground.
“Miss, I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I didn’t see you just now!” The child immediately panicked and started apologizing frantically.
The other child chasing him also said, “Sorry, we didn’t mean it.”
At the same time, he did not forget to say to the first child, “Look at you. You caused trouble again!”
Freya, however, showed a strange expression.
She slowly climbed up from the ground, glanced at the shattered potion, then at the pen on the ground, and finally at the two children in front of her.
“It’s fine. It’s not your fault.”
