DMS Chapter 221

DMS Chapter 221

Flinx had used a higher-level spell slot for the Tongue spell he had cast on Elemendora and Arementil, but he had made sure that its duration would last only around four hours.

He had done it that way so they would eventually have to rest once they could no longer understand the movies.

In his room, Flinx continued reading the novels from The Saga of Recluce by L. E. Modesitt Jr. He was enjoying Modesitt’s books, especially the moral intricacies of their magic system.

He was extremely glad that the magic system his transmigration gift followed came from the most famous fantasy role-playing tabletop game franchise rather than from Modesitt’s books.

The two magic systems created by Modesitt—the Chaos and Order magic system, sometimes simply called Black Order and White Order magic, and the magic system from the Spellsong Cycle, which was based on music—weren’t systems Flinx would enjoy having.

He then started thinking about the different magic systems from the fantasy novels he had read and which ones he would enjoy using.

Flinx thought that the One Power created by Robert Jordan was something he would also like to have.

The psychic powers from the novels created by Alan Dean Foster, from whom his namesake came, were also something he might enjoy using.

He also thought about the magic systems from different online games, and if he were being honest, he would enjoy using most of them.

The next day, Flinx was still the first one to wake up. It was probably because the two elves had made full use of the four-hour duration of the Tongue spell to watch movies, causing them to go to sleep late.

Still, four hours was only enough for a couple of movies. More than likely, the two had spent even more time talking about the films.

He then remembered that some of the cartoon DVDs he had given them, such as Tom and Jerry, didn’t contain spoken dialogue. There was a chance they had found those movies and watched them.

Flinx prepared breakfast for everyone, and as usual, the smell of the food woke the two elves.

They still looked a little sleepy when they joined him for breakfast.

They admitted that they had indeed found some of the movies that didn’t have spoken dialogue, such as Flow, a stunning adventure about a brave stray cat trying to survive a massive flood alongside other animals on a boat, as well as Robot Dreams, a touching story about a lonely dog who built a robot companion.

While they were eating, the two started talking about the movies they had watched the previous night.

Flinx realized that he had been mistaken in thinking of the two elves as teenagers.

They looked like teenagers, but their behavior at that moment made him realize that they were mentally much younger than their appearance suggested. Their circumstances had simply forced them to grow up faster than they should have.

He thought that, more than likely, they were mentally around ten or eleven human years old, possibly even younger.

That realization made him understand that the actions of the elves who had hunted them were even more heinous than he had initially thought.

Because of that, he engaged with them more, talking about the animated films he had seen, which were essentially all the DVDs he had given them.

The two insisted that they needed the Tongue spell to last longer than four hours.

Flinx told them that he would consider their request depending on what time they decided to stop for the night.

Arementil then suggested that they should stop before sunset so they could get enough rest.

The suggestion made Flinx laugh out loud.

While they were eating, Pip also informed him that the two elven children’s pursuers hadn’t given up yet.

Flinx considered ordering Pip to simply kill them, but he changed his mind.

Since Pip was capable of confusing them and leading them far away from their location, he decided to let things continue as they were.

He didn’t want to become someone who was bloodthirsty enough to consider killing people an immediate solution to every problem.

They resumed their journey that day, but first, the two elves requested that he cast the Tongue spell on them so they could read the covers of the DVDs he had lent them.

Flinx simply shrugged and cast the spell they wanted.

While Flinx walked ahead, the two elves were busy examining the DVD covers of the movies they were now carrying in a backpack he had given them.

Flinx overheard them talking shortly before they moved far enough behind him that he could no longer hear their conversation. They were already in the process of deciding which movies they would watch that night.

Around midmorning, the rain started again, but the three of them mostly ignored it since Flinx’s spell protected them from getting wet.

Their pace remained as slow as ever, and thankfully, the elves didn’t seem to mind.

They were busy looking through the DVD cases, listening to music, or talking to each other about the movies they had watched and planning which ones they would watch next.

Flinx even suspected that the two elven children had started appreciating how slowly they were traveling. After all, it meant they had more time to watch all the movies he had lent them.

At least the movies and music allowed the two elves to forget about their problems for a little while.

They had also started becoming comfortable traveling with Flinx.

Flinx, in turn, had begun to stop minding their presence. They weren’t bothering him during their journey and generally left him alone.

By noon, the rain had stopped, so instead of summoning his log cabin, Flinx simply placed a camping table and some chairs beneath a tree beside the road. He then ate a huge lunch together with Elemendora and Arementil.

While they ate, they started asking him about movies that weren’t included among the DVDs he had lent them.

He told them about some of his favorite movies, including The Lord of the Rings films, from which the music they were listening to had come.

They asked about the movie Skyrim, and Flinx had to explain that it wasn’t a movie but a game.

That topic opened an entirely different can of worms.

Flinx told them about computer games.

Thankfully, they already knew what computers were since they had been using the laptop he gave them to watch movies.

Because of the two elves’ curiosity, Flinx retrieved the laptop he had given them and installed one of the games that could be installed using a CD he had purchased from his system’s shopping site.

The game was Plants vs. Zombies.

Soon, the siblings were fighting over who would get to play next.

Flinx sighed and bought another laptop so each of them could play the game to their heart’s content.

Since the two elven children were busy enjoying their games, Flinx decided to remain in that location for a couple more hours.

He read a book while the elves played, but eventually, he told them that it was time to continue their journey.

“Why don’t we just stay here for the night?” Arementil suggested.

Flinx thought about it for a moment before agreeing.

The elf was extremely surprised, but the joy on both of their faces was undeniable.

Flinx cast the Galder’s Tower spell in the shape of a log cabin in the same place where they had eaten lunch.

Since Flinx didn’t have an actual destination in mind, delaying their journey by a day or two didn’t matter.

He heard the two elves activating the generator he had placed just outside their window so their devices wouldn’t run out of power.

After that, he left them alone.

In the meantime, Flinx took a long, hot shower to relax his body. He planned to spend the rest of the afternoon reading a novel or watching a movie in his room.

After his shower, he first contacted Olivia and the four children to check whether there were any problems.

Thankfully, there were none.

He then checked the web-based messengers to see if anything had happened to his friends while they were on Earth.

He was relieved to find that there were no problems there either.
