DMS Chapter 168

DMS Chapter 168

Flinx went outside the room to give the family their privacy. He waited in the living room while the farmer’s family attended to Aman.

While waiting, he observed the house around him.

The farmhouse was clean and cozy. All the pieces of furniture appeared to be handmade, and more than likely, they had been crafted by the same man he had just healed. A large pot hung over the fireplace, but since it was only mid-morning, the fireplace was not lit.

Although the farmhouse looked humble, it was comfortable, and Flinx could not sense any signs of poverty. In fact, the animals he could see through the windows—the three cows, chickens, and goats—all appeared healthy.

There was also a field of some kind of grain in the distance, and he assumed it belonged to the farmhouse.

Since the farmhouse did not look destitute, Flinx wondered about the five silver coins in the purse that the boy had given him to heal Thomas’s father. Was it really that difficult for an average farming family to gather coins?

The only explanation Flinx could think of was that he truly did not understand the value of money in this kingdom.

The fact that it was so easy for him to accumulate wealth because of his Transmigration System made him realize that he was a privileged person in this world. He was similar to those wealthy and entitled young people he had seen on the internet back on Earth—people who had no idea how difficult life could be for ordinary people.

Even though Flinx was sitting in the living room and had given the family their privacy, he could still hear their conversation.

Thomas repeatedly told his family that Flinx was a powerful healer who could fly. He described how Flinx had followed him through the air while Thomas rode his horse on the way home.

He also heard Thomas’s mother reassuring her husband about seeing Flinx’s Adventurer Guild Card.

After a few more minutes, the family finally came out of the room. They were led by Thomas’s father, who now looked completely healthy.

When Flinx saw the man, he could only think that he was worthy of Thomas’s extraordinarily beautiful mother. Aman looked like one of those actors from Hollywood.

Flinx shook his head at his own thoughts and was startled when Aman suddenly bowed deeply to him, followed by the rest of his family.

“I know that the coins our family gave you were far too little for someone of your status to personally come to our home and heal me. We are truly grateful for your kindness. My name is Aman, and this is my wife, Elizabeth. You already know my son, Thomas. This is my other son, Ranulf, and my daughter, Isla,” the farmer introduced himself.

“Regardless of how much Thomas paid me, I accepted the request. Your family does not owe me anything. Besides, I was simply traveling around leisurely, and your son was fortunate enough to find me on the road,” Flinx replied.

Aman invited Flinx to stay for lunch, so he accepted.

Flinx watched as Aman slaughtered a chicken and a sheep while Elizabeth apologized for the delay, explaining that they needed time to prepare the freshly killed animals.

Flinx almost protested and told them they did not need to sacrifice such valuable food just for him. However, after thinking about it, he understood.

Their family was genuinely grateful that he had saved Aman’s life. Preparing a feast was not only a way to thank him but also likely a way to express gratitude toward whichever deity they worshiped for sparing them the pain of losing the head of their family.

Flinx had to admit that, based on what he had seen, Aman’s head injury would likely have taken his life.

While Aman and Elizabeth prepared the meal, Thomas helped them. Flinx decided to entertain the farmer’s two younger children.

He bought several cheap plastic farm animal toys from his System Shopping site and gave them to the children.

The two young children were incredibly happy with their new colorful toys and immediately began playing with them. Their loud laughter brought a smile to Flinx’s face, but it also caught Elizabeth and Thomas’s attention.

When they entered the house to check on the children, they saw them happily playing with the toys Flinx had given them.

Flinx noticed Elizabeth looked concerned, so he quickly explained that they were just some cheap toys he happened to have.

The woman nodded and returned outside to continue helping her husband.

Thomas stayed behind to watch his younger siblings. Flinx noticed that the boy looked slightly envious of the plastic farm animals his siblings had received, so he purchased a cheap plastic sword and shield from his System Shopping site and handed them to him.

Thomas’s face immediately lit up.

The boy began running around the house, proudly wielding his powerful new sword and shield, causing his younger siblings to laugh happily.

All of the plastic toys together had cost Flinx only three dollars.

After three hours of waiting, Aman and Elizabeth finally finished preparing the meal.

In truth, Flinx’s expectations were low. He had not noticed them using any spices, but the moment he tasted the roasted sheep and chicken stew they prepared, he was impressed by how flavorful the food was.

The bread Elizabeth made was also soft and delicious.

Flinx sincerely praised their cooking, and Aman and Elizabeth could tell that his compliments were genuine. Their happiness was obvious from his reaction.

While they were eating, Aman noticed the new toys his children were holding and immediately looked surprised.

“Don’t worry about those toys. I created them using my magic, so they didn’t cost anything,” Flinx explained.

“So, you are a wizard and not a healer?” Aman asked.

“As you can see from my Adventurer Guild Card, it states that I am a wizard. However, my healing spells are equally powerful,” Flinx said proudly.

“How high can you fly?” Thomas asked with his mouth full of food, causing his mother to immediately scold him.

“I don’t know since I have never tested my limit, but I imagine it is very high. The danger of flying is that the environment above the ground is extremely harsh, and a normal body would not be able to endure it. There are also powerful flying monsters in the sky, so unless someone is strong enough to defeat them, flying too high would be dangerous,” Flinx answered.

His explanation filled Thomas with wonder, but Aman and Elizabeth were also amazed.

After finishing his meal, Flinx told the family that it was time for him to leave.

Aman and Elizabeth invited him to stay on their farm for a while, but Flinx declined. He was still close to Ilioven, and he planned to travel farther before deciding where to stop.

Aman advised Flinx that any nearby farmhouse would likely welcome him for a few copper coins when night came. The main reason was the Adventurer Guild Card displayed prominently on his chest.

“So, adventurers from the guild have a high reputation?” Flinx asked.

“Only those who have reached gold-rank adventurer status or higher. Even then, this respect mainly applies to people living near Ilioven. Other places may not treat adventurers with the same honor. The only places where high-ranking adventurers are truly respected are kingdoms where the Adventurer Guild holds great influence, like Ilioven,” Aman explained.

Flinx noticed that Aman and Elizabeth looked slightly confused by some of his questions, since many of the things he asked were supposed to be common knowledge.

He decided to explain that he was a foreigner who had recently arrived in Ilioven with the intention of exploring its dungeon.

He told them that he had learned it was a requirement to become a member of the Adventurer Guild before entering the dungeons inside Ilioven. After applying and completing several tests, he had managed to acquire the Diamond rank.
