Olivia planned to solidify the standing of her shop as something that would cater to rich women. Because of that, she informed Flinx that anyone who would be assigned to sell the items, be it her or the shopkeeper that she hired, would have to be dressed to the nines. Not only the appearance, but the behavior should mimic someone who was born a noble. Since Olivia was a noble herself, she knew how to behave amongst the rich women of Ilioven.
Thankfully, the woman she hired was also trained to act properly around nobles. The shopkeeper was the daughter of a private tutor to the children of a minor noble. Unfortunately, that noble family left for another kingdom, and that woman’s parents didn’t want to leave Ilinestor.
Natalie, who was the name of the woman Olivia hired, was not very lucky. She tried to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a tutor as well since she was well educated. Unfortunately, because of her beauty, most noblemen who hired her as a tutor for their children tried to accost her, and because of that, she became an enemy of the wives of those nobles. The longest stint she had as a tutor was only for a couple of months.
Natalie admitted to Olivia that she would have accepted being a mistress if any of the nobles who hired her were willing to support her parents as well, but because the women of the house didn’t want a rival like her, all of those noblemen’s wives tried their best to remove her from their households. Even though Natalie was pretty, her beauty wasn’t so heaven-defying that those said noblemen would sacrifice their family for her, so she was removed.
Olivia tested Natalie’s capabilities, and she really did know the etiquette a high-class woman should have when in front of rich folks. Since most customers would be women, Olivia and Natalie were sure they wouldn’t encounter any issues with those women’s husbands bothering them. Also, the shop was beginning to have the reputation that it was owned by a powerful magic caster simply because of the stone golem that was stationed by the door, and that meant that the two of them wouldn’t be bothered by any man casually, or else, those men might face the wrath of a powerful wizard.
Since Olivia found Natalie extremely qualified to be the shop’s salesgirl, she promised Natalie twice the pay of a regular shopkeeper, which the girl happily accepted. According to Natalie, that would be enough to support her and her parents, who were getting on in years.
Because of that, Olivia told Flinx that it would be better for the Tiara of Charm to be managed by anyone who was assigned to manage the shop for the day. Flinx understood that what Olivia wanted was to have the Tiara for free. Flinx just nodded since the tiara wasn’t really important, and even the coins he would earn by selling the item were negligible to him.
The Necklace of Invisibility, though, was treated by the three siblings as something important. They understood that it was an item that could save lives in rare situations where escape was necessary. Unfortunately for Ambrose and Christopher, the necklace looked too gaudy to be worn by men, so it went to Olivia as well. Olivia then promised Flinx that once she had enough coins, she would pay for the necklace.
Flinx just told her that she could just add the necklace payment to the shop’s earnings. After that, Olivia wanted to discuss the shop with Flinx, like its daily earnings, projected earnings, what to do with the funds that had been collected, and more.
“The shop had been open for just a few days. Let’s have a meeting about the shop on the last day of every month. Once you think that it's not safe to have the coins with you, go ahead and open an account in the Merchant Guild’s bank.”
It wasn’t that Flinx fully trusted Olivia. With an account book, they would both know the total earnings that the shop would receive since there was a record of the number of product inventory that the shop had.
Olivia told Flinx that she had actually already opened an account with the Merchant Guild’s bank and planned to deposit the gold earnings every week. She wasn’t even worried about having the coins with her because she would be protected by three powerful stone golems.
After their discussion, everyone went to their rooms to rest since all of them had a very busy day. The next day started early. They were all extra motivated. Olivia was truly excited about managing the shop, who looked to become very successful. Christopher and Ambrose were also full of energy since they thought that the shop was earning good coins, and that meant that soon, the family would have the funds to help them in their education as a chef and as an adventurer.
If the three siblings were being honest, they were ecstatic at the fact that Flinx didn’t care about the coins that the shop was earning, and it seemed to them that the shop was established so that the family would have spending coins for whatever they needed or wanted. They didn’t even need to use the shop’s earnings to purchase the shop's inventory since Flinx was the one who would be providing those items, and according to the wizard, the funds he needed to purchase the shop’s inventory were miniscule, at least compared to his earnings from delving dungeons.
Olivia, Christopher, and Ambrose also felt a little guilty toward Flinx. They felt that they were taking advantage of the magic caster. Flinx knew the situation, and he really didn’t care. He just liked the fact that he was able to help the four orphans, Olivia, and her brothers, without costing him too much. He liked the fact that his tower was lively and that he had a form of family he could go home to. It made him feel mentally balanced.
The four children were also excited. Mostly, their excitement was a reflection of the excitement that Olivia, Ambrose, and Christopher exuded.
The four children were a little wiser than their counterparts. They were happy because they were now part of a family that was stable financially. They were supposed to be Flinx’s servants, but they weren’t assigned any chores, and as a matter of fact, Flinx insisted that they become educated. They were supposed to be Flinx’s guides in Ilioven, but since the wizards only went to two locations every day, which were the dungeon and the tower, their services really weren’t needed, but for some reason, Flinx kept them by his side.
The four orphans were extremely grateful for Flinx. They had vowed to each other and the heavens without anyone else knowing, that they would fight for Flinx, whoever his enemies were. They actually couldn’t wait for their education with Olivia to start, since once they were educated, their education would open up a lot of avenues for them.
David, Arcios, Keero, and Violet still planned to become wizards someday. Once they were old enough, they would also study to become warriors like Ambrose, and once they were able to delve into a dungeon and gather their own funds, they would find ways to study magic. Once they became powerful wizards, they would make sure that Flinx was happy all the time.
