DMS Chapter 91
DMS Chapter 91
Flinx entered the 30th floor of the dungeon of Mara. He had paid 30 gold coins for the privilege. Based on what he had seen during the last two days of entering the dungeon, it would be hard for him to bypass the guild once he was done completing the dungeon floor, not because his 7th-level Teleport skill would fail. It was because the guild would know if he didn’t exit the dungeon normally. They wouldn’t have the record of his exit, which usually meant that he died on the dungeon floor.
The next time Flinx entered the dungeon and the guild saw that he didn’t exit, questions would be asked. If Flinx wanted to utilize the Teleport skills from inside the dungeon, he would have to speak with the guild’s higher-ups and request to be allowed to use his spell to enter and exit the dungeon. He would tell them that he was still willing to pay the entrance fee and the 20 percent tax on all the loot that he would receive from the dungeon. They would be able to trust him regarding the loot since he would be willing to be under the guild’s truth spell when it was time for him to pay taxes.
If Flinx was being honest, he underestimated the Adventurer Guild of this world. He thought that he could just delve into dungeon floors willy-nilly using his Teleport spell without alerting the guild, but their record-keeping was a little too precise for comfort, and they had spells like Truth spells to make sure that they were receiving their tax.
Still, he thought that being a diamond rank adventurer might give Flinx some privileges, like skipping queues by directly teleporting inside the dungeon floor and just paying his dues, like the entrance fees and tax fees on a weekly or even monthly basis. He was hoping that the business that he would open together with Olivia would allow Flinx to pay the dungeon entrance fees and taxes using gold coins instead of the mana stones that he would loot from inside the dungeon.
Flinx would only implement that plan once he found a comfortable floor on which he could spend his time delving into to increase his Wizard class level. More than likely, it would be the last floors of the Dungeon of Mara. He hoped that it would still be the Dungeon of Mara, since he liked the fact that he would only need to spend 9 to 12 hours completing the floor.
Even though Flinx felt pressure in attaining the level necessary to attempt to rescue his fellow dungeon miner slaves from Earth, he wouldn’t destroy himself by overworking. He planned to work on it as some sort of office job wherein he would go to work Monday to Friday and would rest during the weekend.
According to the information guide that the guild gave him, the dungeon monsters on the 30th floor were swamp monsters, meaning the floor was a swamp field. The moment he arrived on the floor, the overwhelming stink tempted Flinx to exit the dungeon immediately.
The 30th floor, even though it looked like a swamp, was just like any other floor in the Dungeon of Mara. It was straightforward. Meaning, Flinx just had to move forward until he reached the end that had the “boss” monster.
Since it was a swamp, Flinx thought that the best tanks that he could summon wouldn’t be earth elementals. He chose to summon three water elementals. He made sure to cast the 5th-level spell Conjure Elemental and the 5th-level Planar Binding spell to extend the elemental’s duration. He slotted the Conjure Elemental to the 7th level spell slot to make sure that the three water elementals that he would summon were powerful, but he kept the Planar Binding spell at the 5th level spell slot since the 24-hour duration was enough for his delving purposes.
Once Flinx had summoned his three powerful water elementals, he cast his defensive spells and his Fly spells, and finally the 7th-level spell Crown of Star that would function as his light spell and extra attack spells if needed. He was extremely thankful that he could fly since the watery swamp smelled really bad.
Once he was ready, Flinx moved forward without any more delay. The monsters that he encountered were poisonous, large snakes, giant lizards, giant rats, giant mosquitos and the boss was a swamp troll. Since he wanted to complete the floor as soon as possible because he truly couldn't bear the smell, even though his powerful water elementals were enough to kill the monsters, Flinx cast his spells generously, so every encounter, different spells would rain down on the swamp monsters.
Thankfully, the cooldown of his low-level spells was short enough that he could cast them generously without worrying that he wouldn’t have enough spells to cast. He didn’t even need to use his Crown of Stars spell, and up until the end, it functions as his light source.
Even the final boss of the floor, which was the Swamp Troll were easily killed by Flinx’s water elementals and a few casts of his low-level spells. Thankfully, his three water elementals were extremely fast in gathering the mana stones left by the dungeon monsters.
Flinx completed the 30th floor in just five hours. After he killed the boss monsters and looted the drop, he didn’t wait any longer and immediately exited the floor after dispelling his water elementals.
Once he was outside, Flinx noticed that the surrounding people immediately distanced themselves from him, which told him that he was carrying the stink of the 30th floor on him. The guild staff nearby, who was holding some cloth on his face, looked at him sympathetically.
He immediately cast his Prestidigitation spells several times until all of him and his belongings were extremely clean, and he couldn’t smell the swamp anymore. The guild staff told him that the smell was gone as well, which relieved Flinx a lot since even though he knew that he was already clean, he still smelled the lingering stink of the swamp around him. He knew it was probably in his mind, but that confirmed his decision that he would avoid dungeons that had a swamp tag on them.
Flinx earned a total of 20 low-level mana stones, 10 medium-level mana stones, and 3 high-level mana stones. He also received some sort of magical vine whip and a pair of boots. Since he couldn’t afford to pay the guild using gold coins, he sighed and paid them in mana stones. For the 20 low-level mana stones, he gave the guild 4 low-level mana stones. For the 10 medium-level mana stones, he gave the guild, Flinx gave the guild 2 medium-level mana stones, and for the high-level mana stones, he gave the guild 1 high-level mana stones but he would have a credit of 0.4 high-level mana stones.
Based on the results of his delving just the 30th floor of the dungeon of Mara, the business that he would open with Olivia wouldn’t be able to support the tax that he would have to pay to the Adventurer Guild.
Still, Flinx was extremely happy with what he had earned from the 30th floor. He earned a total of 16 low-level mana stones, 8 medium-level mana stones, and 2 high-level mana stones, and he finally reached a full 1 percent on his level 7 wizard class. Based on that data, it meant that the deeper floors, like the 40th floor, would probably earn him enough experience points that it would be worthwhile for him to stay on that floor to level up his wizard class.
