Olivia and Christopher, followed by one of the stone golems, excitedly traverse the streets headed to the Merchant Guild. The thought of acquiring a profitable business made Olivia giddy. The thought of their business failing never entered her mind, simply because the scented soap and the scented candle that Flinx gave her as samples were truly great, and she knew that rich noblewomen and merchant wives would clamor to buy them once they were on the market.
She knew that her brothers, Christopher and Ambrose, were equally excited since Flinx told them that the funds for their tuition to pursue their dreams, which was being a chef for Christopher and being an adventurer for Ambrose, would come from the earnings from the shop they would open, and just like Olivia, the thought of their business failing never entered their minds.
Olivia tried to return the 120 gold coins that remained from the budget that Flinx gave her, but Flinx just told her to keep them and buy the things she thought the tower would need. She kept the coins because she had thought of things that she had missed purchasing.
Before she parted with the others, she gave five gold coins to Ambrose and five gold coins to Christopher as their allowance. She also handed David a gold coin for them to spend on lunch. She had stopped worrying about the four children since Flinx was correct. Before the four children met Flinx, they had already been surviving on the streets of Ilioven. They were also under the protection of a powerful stone golem, and Flinx told her that the stone golem would follow the four children if they went outside the tower.
The tower itself was protected by a giant water elemental that turned itself into a pond just outside the tower. The pond was extremely beautiful to look at since it was crystal clear, and even though Olivia couldn’t imagine immersing herself inside the body of an elemental, the pond was truly inviting. The fact that the water would protect the family while they were in it was a bonus, and not only that, the water obeyed every mischievous command that the children shouted at it, so the kids could do impossible things while they were on the water like being tossed up in the sky with the water extending a water arm to safely catch them, or walking, gliding and any other action they could think of, on top of the water. Because of that, Olivia thought that it made the scene look like some sort of fantastic dream.
Olivia shook her head at the thought of the elementals that were now their protectors. She didn’t know how powerful the stone golems were before, but when robbers tried to rob them the day before, simply because the items that they were carrying were probably too tempting for those thugs, despite the fact that they were guarded by scary-looking golems, the 10 thugs didn’t even last 10 seconds against just one of the golems. The other two just ignored the thugs since one of the stone golems was still in front of the cart that it was pulling, and the second golem stayed near them.
They learned that day that the golems were not some mindless automaton but intelligent creatures capable of complex actions. When one of the thugs was cruelly ripped apart by one of the stone golems, Olivia shouted at the golem not to kill any more of the robbers, and it actually complied. All the other robbers received severe injuries that day.
When the guards appeared, Olivia saw that the golems readied themselves to fight the guards that arrived. They didn’t care if newly arrived men were part of the guards of Ilioven. They would obey the commands of Flinx to keep them safe. Olivia hastily commanded the golems to stand down, which greatly relieved the guards. They saw the combat power of the golems since the result of the golems' combat skills was on the ground. One of the robbers was even ripped in half.
Olivia then reported to the guards that the men on the ground were robbers who attempted to rob them and that the three stone golems were the magical creation of a diamond rank magic caster adventurer conjured to protect them.
Because of that situation, the information spread that Olivia and her brothers were now protected by powerful golems. Christopher and Ambrose became prouder and started strutting on the streets just like how they used to strut when their family was still a rich noble family.
While Olivia and Christopher were walking, she noticed that a lot of people were pointing their fingers at her and her brother, but on second look, the people were not pointing at her but at the golem that was following them.
Because Olivia was experienced, she knew what to do upon arriving at the merchant guild. Although the merchant guild staff was a little nervous when talking to her and kept eyeing the stone golem, the merchant guild staff assisted her in finding the best venue for their business. She told the man that the place they require should be away from businesses that would be affected by the perfumed smell, like food businesses, since she was sure that the smell of their items would spread outside the shop.
Hearing that request, the merchant guild staff was a little alarmed, but when he saw the sample products that Olivia showed him, he was relieved. They were just sweet-smelling soaps and candles.
The merchant guild staff presented Olivia with several option and she chose the two best locations. After that, the man led them to those places. One was between a blacksmith and a carpenter, and the second was between a tailor and a jewelry shop. The one between a tailor and the jewelry shop was in the center of the plaza, where the rich usually shop, so the rent for that shop was extremely expensive. Still, she chose the second location despite its price since Olivia thought that it would be better for their shop to be at the center of things. She was sure that sooner or later, Flinx would relent and add more items to their shop.
The rent for the three-story shop was 50 gold coins a month. She decided not to bother Flinx and rented the shop then and there. The location was perfect, and the shop, after examining it thoroughly, looked new. She asked the merchant to bring her to the owner of the shop so they could process the rental agreement as soon as possible.
Once they arrived at the owner of the shop’s house, the process of renting the shop was completed quickly. That was because Olivia agreed with the one-month deposit and one-month advance payment for a total of 100 gold coins. After paying the owner of the shop and the 10 gold coins tax and processing fee to the merchant guild, Olivia now held the papers that stated she could now open her business as early as the next day.
Of course, there were still a lot of things that needed to be done. They would need to commission a sign for the shop, have the shop professionally cleaned, and buy some furniture that would allow them to display their items inside the shop. Since she only had 10 gold coins left, Olivia was done for the day. She was happy that she had accomplished a lot for that day and returned home to the tower happily.
