DMS Chapter 85

DMS Chapter 85

Flinx joined the queue in front of the Adventurer Guild kiosk. Just like the day before, the line was long, and the adventurers that was in the line with him looked intimidated by the Diamond Rank adventurer guild card hanging on Flinx’s chest.

At least yesterday, someone was brave enough to talk to him. This time, no one was, and the adventurer even avoided his eyes, which, frankly, made Flinx shake his head. He could understand them, though, since the group before and behind him were all copper rank adventurers, which meant that they would probably just enter the first few floors of Mara’s Dungeon.

Flinx amused himself by observing the surrounding adventurers. He was surprised to see that there were a few possible magic casters among them, simply because most of them were wearing robes and sporting staves. Their ranks were low, though, since the highest among them was just silver. He wasn’t even sure if they were wizards. They could be healers.

After he got tired of observing the people there, Flinx retrieved the guild booklet that was given to him, containing information about the Mara Dungeon floors. According to the booklet, the 20th floor, which was the floor he was planning to enter, was still a cavern, but the floor was full of luminescent cave plants, and the lighting came from the plants, which meant that the 20th floor was a little dimmer than the other floors.

The monsters on the 20th floor were the mushroom treants, which were treant monsters formed from huge cavern mushrooms. Aside from the mushroom treants incredible strength, they could scatter poisonous spores. Another monsters were the mushroom wasps. The wasps were as large as dogs and were also poisonous. They were also incredibly fast. Other monsters were the mushroom bats, mushroom wolves, the mushroom earthworms, and the mushroom vipers. Flinx was amused that all of the monsters on the 20th floor had the mushroom tagged in front of them. He suddenly wondered if there were edible mushrooms on the floor, and Flinx was amused at the thought.

Unlike the 10th floor, the 20th floor was a humongous maze. Which meant that it was almost inevitable that he would encounter adventurers, if there were some, on the floor. Like the 10th floor, the spawn rate of the monsters was incredibly fast.

After reviewing the monsters on the 20th floor, Flinx thought of which spells would prove useful against the 20th-floor dungeon monsters and swapped his spells around accordingly. Still, he was glad that it was incredibly easy for him to swap his spells around even in the middle of battle.

By the time Flinx reached the guild guy in the kiosk, he had completed reviewing all the things he needed to review. He simply told the guy that he needed the portal key for the 20th floor. He saw that the guild staff was startled when Flinx told him that he was alone, but then, when the guy noticed his Diamond Rank card, the guild staff gave him the portal key after Flinx gave the guy 20 gold coins.

Once he arrived at the 20th floor, the first thing Flinx did was summon two Earth Elementals shaped just like the stone golems that were guarding the four children, Olivia and her two brothers. The ones that he summoned were stronger, though, since the 5th-level Conjure Elemental and the 5th-level Planar Binding that he cast were slotted on the 7th-level spell slot.

After summoning the two incredibly powerful earth elementals that would function as his tank, Flinx thought that maybe he could continue fighting safely by just summoning an army of elementals. Unfortunately, after reading the description of the spell thoroughly, it indicated that there was a limit on the total number of summons he could conjure, which was based on his level. Since he was a level 7 wizard, Flinx could summon a total of seven summons, which included his familiar. With three stone golems guarding the family, the water elemental guarding the tower, and now the two earth elementals that would work as his tank, he could only summon just one more elemental or his owl familiar, which he named Pip.

He decided to go with his familiar since Flinx could use Pip as his scout. After that, he started moving since he didn’t want the next team catching up to him. He cast the 1st level spell Mage Armor, the 4th level spell Stone Armor, and the 3rd level spell Fly, and started flying forward with the two stone golems ahead of him and his familiar flying far ahead to scout the way.

The first set of monsters that Pip encountered were the mushroom wolves, and there were 10 of them. Through the eyes of Pip, he saw the dungeon monsters, and they were huge. He commanded his two Earth Elementals to run ahead and engage the 10 wolves. For the first few seconds, Flinx watched the two earth elementals battling the wolves, and the two summons were overpowering the mushroom wolves. He didn’t want to delay the battle, so he assisted his tanks by casting several 1st-level Magic Missile spells against the mushroom wolves, and after a few more seconds, all the wolves were killed.

Flinx still didn’t plan to harvest any materials and was just planning to gather the mana stones. He cast the 7th-level spell Crown of Star so that he could see the scattered mana stones. He was delighted when he saw that one of the mana stones were medium-level mana stone. He then reviewed in his mind the battle against the first set of monsters and concluded that the 20th-floor dungeon monster could still be easily killed by his spells. After renewing his defensive spells and his Fly spell, Flinx moved on.

The next set of monsters that Pip informed him about were mushroom bats, so Flinx immediately flew down. When the bats saw him and his two golems, Flinx immediately cast the 2nd-level Invisibility spell, and the 12 mushroom bats focused on the two stone golems. He then ambushed the bats while the golems were fighting them with several casts of the 1st-level spell Magic Missile. Not more than 2 minutes, all the bats were killed.

According to the guild book, the materials from the monsters on the 20th floor of Mara Dungeon were incredibly valuable, but Flinx still didn’t intend to harvest them. He didn’t want to get down on his knees to cut monsters’ body part. Thankfully, his system only needed mana stones, and he could earn a tremendous amount of gold coins through his system shopping site.

He wondered if he should hire adventurers to gather the materials for him. He didn’t have to pay them; Flinx just had to tell them that they didn’t need to fight and just gather the materials, and they could keep one-fourth, a third, or even half of the gathered monster materials. Before deciding to go with that thought, Flinx felt that it would be better to talk to somebody about that first.

Once all of the mana stones were gathered, they moved. For several hours, Flinx killed monster after monsters and with the help of his two tanks, he easily killed all of them, even the most powerful on the floor, which was a giant mushroom treant. The boss monsters gave him a high-level mana stone, and he acquired a sword, a shield, and a bracer. Based on the appearance of the items, they were magic items.

He decided to ask Ambrose to have the items identified by the guild. It was going to be his form of motivation for the kid.
