DMS Chapter 60

DMS Chapter 60

Flinx did not hold back in ordering as much food as he could. Those that they couldn’t finish would be stored in his 4th tab space. The four kids were also delighted that Flinx didn’t care that they were messy eaters. As a matter of fact, they saw that the gold rank magic caster was also a messy eater just like them.

Flinx knew that the kids became aware again that he, too, was an orphan just like them, and he could see them becoming more comfortable in his presence. The fact that they were in a private booth allowed the five of them to eat as much as they wanted.

He did make sure to take note of the amount of food that the kids were eating. He didn’t want them to overeat and get sick. He was hugely surprised when the kids stopped themselves from overeating. Runt noticed his surprised expression.

“All of us saw someone die from overeating,” Runt said, and the other kids nodded.

The kids were still eyeing the remaining food on the table. They ate about half of the food that Flinx had ordered.

“Don’t worry. I’ll have someone pack them and give them to you later,” Flinx told the kids, and grins grew in their faces.

Flinx called a waiter to have the food taken care of, then he also asked for the total bill. He was surprised that all the food had only cost him 10 gold, but based on the kids’ expressions, they considered the amount he had paid as something unbelievably huge. When the waiter returned, he immediately stored the packed food in his 4th tab space, which made everyone's eyes grow wide. He paid the staff 11 gold coins, making sure that the extra gold coin was a tip. That brought a huge smile to the waiter’s face. Runt complained, though, telling him that it was such a huge amount for a tip.

“I don’t have anything smaller than a gold coin,” Flinx simply told the kids who just gaped at him.

“Do you want me to bring you to a gold changer?” Runt asked, and Flinx just shook his head.

After that, Flinx asked the kids to lead him to the nearest dungeon that could be delved into by a gold rank adventurer. Camryn and Oliman told him that all dungeons were surrounded by different branches of guilds like the Adventurer Guild, which was the one overseeing the adventurers, the Merchant Guild, which handles most of the transactions like buying the materials the adventurers received from the dungeon, the Alchemist Guild where the potions came from, the Mage Guild, who supposed to oversee the wizards, and more.

Flinx was flabbergasted when Runt told him that the nearest gold rank dungeon was two hours away on foot. The dungeon was still inside the city. That pointed out the fact to Flinx how huge Ilioven was.

He decided to hire a carriage to bring him and the kids to the said dungeon. He asked Runt how he should go about hiring a carriage. The kids brought him to the street where Flinx could flag a carriage that would bring him to the said dungeon.

The driver of the carriage for hire asked for a couple of gold coins to bring him and four children to the Dungeon of Mara, which was the name of the gold rank dungeon. The four kids were about to explode at the high price the driver was demanding from Flinx, but he just handed the two gold coins to the man. He wasn’t too worried about his finances. Even with all the gold expenditures that he had made ever since he entered the city, Flinx still had a total of 1,320 gold coins inside his 4th tab space.

Runt looked exasperated at Flinx’s behavior with coins, though.

“How are you going to get rich if you keep spending your coins willy nilly?!” Scolded the kid.

Flinx almost laughed out loud when he saw Kid, Dirt, and Flea had the same expression. He suddenly thought that he should do something about the kids’ names.

Then he realized that the kids were not someone whom he would just hire and then discard. Basically, he knew that he already adopted them. Flinx just sighed and accepted it. If he thought about it, Flinx was glad that he still was a softie with a bleeding heart. That was always how it was with him. He couldn’t even stand it when NPCs inside his Skyrim game died when he played it back on Earth. That meant that even with the years of cruelty and torture he had experienced at the hands of the wizard enslavers, he was fundamentally the same inside, and that gave him hope that he would be fine someday.

While they were on the road, the kids kept telling him a bunch of information about what he needed to be aware of while he was in the city. Flinx felt a little sad that most of the things the kids told him were warnings, which basically pointed out the fact that their lives were hard.

Flinx wasn’t naïve enough to think that the kids were kindhearted creatures wanting someone to acknowledge them. He knew that with what they had lived, they were hardened little criminals who wouldn’t hesitate to betray him. He knew that for a fact because he noticed Kid pickpocketing a rich-looking merchant or a minor noble while they were waiting for a carriage. At the very least, the four kids still had a heart enough to care for each other. They were also wise enough to avoid adventurers, since if they tried something with those powerful men and women, they knew that at the very least, they would be beaten.

He had also seen their kids’ eyes flickering around constantly as if they were constantly scanning their surroundings, either for danger or for opportunities.

Flinx noticed how they made sure that Flea was always being protected in the middle, so he hadn’t lost hope that the children had lost all their morals. He wondered what he would do with them.

After two hours ride, they finally reached the vicinity of the Mara’s Dungeon. As per his request, Runt led him to the Adventurer Guild first. Flinx needed to register first so he would receive permission to enter the dungeon.

Runt, Kid, Dirt, and Flea followed him inside the Adventurer Guild, and Flinx just let them. He wasn’t the only one showing tokens. Others were as well, but he could see that the largest number of them only had Iron, Copper, and Silver tokens. Still, the adventurers looked at Flinx and his group with amusement. He understood, since it was a little weird for an adventurer to be followed by kids in the guild.

He knew from Runt that the reason why there were so many lower-rank adventurers was that the Dungeon of Ruman was also nearby. Ruman’s Dungeon was a copper rank dungeon, and since both dungeons were near each other, the guilds decided to erect their branches between the two dungeons.

Flinx approached one of the counters that had a receptionist who looked to be free.

“Good Morning. I would like to register my presence in the city. I’m a gold rank magic caster and would like to delve Mara’s Dungeon,” Flinx told the pretty lady behind the counter.

He wasn’t speaking loudly, but he was overheard nonetheless, and he could see that a lot of the adventurers around perked up upon hearing that there was a new magic caster adventurer around. Flinx had learned from Camryn and Oliman that magic casters were rare and were most sought after by adventurer groups.
