DMS Chapter 47

Flinx checked the time in his system's first tab and saw that it was only six in the morning. The caravan was still not moving. He assumed that the merchants were still in breakfast mode. Since he was now presentable and had already eaten, he decided to check out the caravan people.

The cart next to his was used by a couple of merchants who were selling weapons and armor. They were brothers, and Flinx liked their friendliness. They looked honest and open, and they admitted that their looks, which were filled with sincerity, were the reason why they were doing well in their business.

Their names were Camryn and Oliman. The two were very chatty the night before. Flinx had learned that they were already in their thirties and already had families. Both of them had two children each.

They told him that their father had fathered six sons and two daughters. Their two sister became adventurers and were now delving into dungeons. Their father was the main blacksmith, assisted by their oldest and the next-to-oldest brothers. Their other two brothers were managing the family shop in Ilioven.

They admitted that both brothers had wandering feet, so they decided to roam around with the excuse of doing business for the family through the caravan while their wives and children stayed in the family compound. Both were also decent warriors, so they were a little confident in defending themselves against attackers like bandits or monsters.

The brothers had just finished cooking some sort of porridge and were eating when Flinx joined them. They offered a bowl to him, but he declined, telling them that he had already eaten. If he was being honest, their porridge looked unpalatable.

“We’ll be leaving in an hour,” Camryn told him.

“Thankfully, we’ll be passing by a river by noon. We can do some laundry and take a bath by then,” Oliman said.

“Didn’t you have someone do laundry for you back in Beldor town?” Flinx asked.

“We did, but we wanted to get ahead of the laundry pile. We need to make sure that we have clean clothes all the time. No one would buy things from a stinky merchant,” Oliman replied.

“If you want, I can clean your laundry for you using my magic,” Flinx offered, since his cantrip and 1st-level slots were still filled with the Prestidigitation spell.

Camryn and Oliman stared at him. Camryn immediately ran inside their carriage and brought out their laundry that was placed inside a large basket. Flinx asked Camryn to lay out all their dirty clothes on the ground on top of a blanket, and the man did. After a few castings of his Prestidigitation spell, all of the clothes of the two merchants became clean.

“Even the older dirt’s gone! The blanket, and even the ground’s clean!” Camry exclaimed.

Oliman approached their clothes, picked some, and inspected them. Then he sniffed them.

“They don’t smell anything,” Oliman said.

“What do you expect them to smell? Sunshine and daisies?” Flinx said, rolling his eyes.

Oliman laughed and said that he actually appreciated that they were scentless.

“If you want, I can clean your bodies too,” Flinx offered, since he could smell a bit of a ripe odor from the two men.

“Do we need to remove our clothes?” Camryn asked who was about to remove his shirt.

Flinx shook his head immediately and told the two men that there was no need for them to get naked. If they were ladies, he could be a little naughty and tell them that they need to remove their clothes, but he had no desire to see men’s naked bodies.

He immediately cast a few Prestidigitation spells towards the brothers, and after he was done, Camryn and Oliman looked amazed.

“I never felt so clean! I think I’m even cleaner compared to after finishing a bath!” Camryn said.

“I think even my teeth’s cleans!” Oliman added. Flinx could see the guy moving his tongue around inside his mouth.

Flinx noticed that the effects of his Prestidigitation spell became better. He theorized that it was probably because he had leveled up to Wizard level 7.

“What are you all shouting about?! It’s still early, and you two are making so much noise!” Rendra, who was the merchant selling ladies' things like jewelry, handkerchiefs, scarves, hats, and purses, and was using the next cart after the two-armed merchant, said, approaching them.

Rendra was a widowed, middle-aged woman in her late forties, accompanied by her daughter and son-in-law. Since Flinx had not told the two brothers that what he did was a secret, they immediately extolled Flinx’s cleaning spell. Rendra looked amazed and even picked up one of the brothers’ clothing items and inspected it. Then she also sniffed them. Rendra also inspected Camryn and Oliman’s bodies that after a few seconds, the two men’s became uncomfortable under Rendra’s scrutiny.

Flinx laughed out loud when Rendra even went so far as to approach Camryn to sniff the man, who looked outraged.

“Can you clean me as well?” Rendra suddenly asked Flinx, who shrugged and cast a few Prestidigitation spells on the merchant woman.

Rendra looked amazed while she was inspecting herself, and just like Oliman, they saw the woman inspecting her teeth as well.

“You’re very approachable, young man, despite your powers. Once everyone knew that you could clean things immediately using your magic, they would pester you nonstop. The best thing you can do right now is set up a boundary. I noticed that it took you a few castings to clean me, is that right?” Rendra asked.

“Yes. One cast of my cleaning spell would cover one cubic foot of area,” Flinx told the woman.

“I recommend that if somebody wants you to clean something, you need to charge them. I recommend one copper coin per cast of your cleansing spell. I also recommend that you set up a specific time when you can do it, like maybe in the evening. I can handle the business for you if you give me ten percent of your earnings per one hundred cast of your spells. In the meantime, clean my clothes so I can attest to the power of your cleaning spells,” Rendra told Flinx.

Flinx just laughed and agreed with the merchant woman and asked Rendra to handle it. Casting the Prestidigitation spell to help clean the merchants' things was a way help them. More than likely, the caravan people would just ask him to do the spell a few times each week.

Rendra immediately rushed off, calling for her daughter to bring out all their dirty laundry. The good thing about cleaning Rendra’s things was that the woman assisted Flinx in experimenting with the coverage of his Prestidigitation spell. She first piled all the clothes that she could fit within one cubic foot. After he cast his spell on the pile, even if all the clothes were bunched together extremely tightly, all of them were still cleaned thoroughly.

The merchant woman then asked her son-in-law to squeeze himself as tight as he could by hugging his knees, and with just a couple of casts of his Prestidigitation spell, the man’s whole body was cleaned.

Everyone there looked amazed at the ability of Flinx’s spell to clean things thoroughly. Soon, everyone went to their carts, and the caravan started its journey for the day. Flinx sat on his comfortable chair and appreciated the surrounding areas. He was still not bored in sight seeing.
