DMS Chapter 46
DMS Chapter 46
Flinx arranged all the things that he purchased from his System Shopping Site on the wagon floor after making sure that every inch was clean by using his Prestidigitation spell on it. After that, he sat on his comfortable chair and planned to review his list of spells, since he was not sleepy yet. He thought that maybe he should review which 4th-level spells he should purchase.
Before he started, he heard knocking on the wagon door. When he opened it, he saw that it was Barthos who was looking inside the wagon.
“Can I help you?” Flinx asked the caravan master, who was eyeing his solar-powered lantern and his sleeping bag and pillows.
“The guards reported that they were seeing an extremely white, bright light coming from your window,” Barthos said.
“Well, as you can see, it’s my lantern. It came from my homeland. It gathers sunlight during the day and then can be used at night. When fully charged with sunlight power, it could last up to ten hours!” Flinx boasted.
Barthos eyes flashed with greed.
“Are you willing to sell it?”
“It’s the only one I have. You did not even provide me with a lantern. Even a bed and a chair. Thankfully, I have those in my storage item.”
“I was planning to sell you those things,” the caravan master admitted.
Flinx glared at the caravan merchant, but realized that Barthos was just behaving as he was supposed to behave. A greedy merchant. He just finally sighed and exited the wagon to join Barthos since the caravan master seemed to want to continue talking with him.
“Missus asked me to invite you to eat, or else I would sleep outside the carriage later,” Barthos admitted, and Flinx laughed.
“You deserve it. You would earn a fortune from the salt that I sold you. I know how much they’re worth. I just don’t want to bother selling them to others. Still, you’re behaving extremely stingily,” Flinx told the merchant.
“That is how I earned my fortune,” Barthos shrugged.
“Tell Martha I said thanks, but I’m serious when I told you before that I don’t require food from the caravan. I collected a huge amount of resources before I left Beldor town,” Flinx said to Barthos.
“That’s what I told Martha. But I guess, she’s feeling a little guilty. Your lantern is really beautiful,” Barthos sighed. After that, the caravan master left.
Flinx was flabbergasted when a few more people knocked on his door. They wanted to see his magic lantern. In all honesty, he thought that even if he showed some gadgets, people would assume they were just magic items, and they did, but apparently, magic items were incredibly rare.
He did not want to seem rude, so he placed the solar-powered lantern outside his wagon so people could see it for as long as they wanted while he talked to the visitors. After a while, one of the guards approached him and told him to bring his lantern inside since it was too bright and would cause night blindness. The patrolling guards needed their eyes acclimated to the dark.
Flinx apologized and placed his lantern inside the wagon, but still in full view of visitors. He continued talking to the caravan people. Most of them were couples or siblings. He was startled to learn that they really wanted to know if he had more magic items that he could sell them, since a single magic item would allow them to earn a fortune. He jokingly asked if he should be worried about anyone attempting to steal it, and the merchants laughed. Everyone knew that he was a gold-level magic caster adventurer and was probably powerful enough to destroy half of the caravan guards. He was surprised to learn that none of the people in the caravan was a wizard or magic caster. He then learned that those who could cast spells were extremely rare as well.
The merchants admitted that some warriors could cast a spell or two, but they’re called warrior skills, not spells. Those who could truly cast magic were truly special, and most became extremely powerful and famous.
“The mayor’s wife is a mage, though,” Flinx asked the merchants.
They knew about that, but apparently, she was an original inhabitant of the town who retired from adventuring and wanted to spend the rest of her days with her husband in Beldor town, who was her childhood sweetheart.
“What do you mean, retired?! She looked like she was just in her late twenties!” Flinx exclaimed, and the merchants laughed.
He then learned that the Mayor and his wife were in their fifties. The fact that she looked young was because she was a mage.
The conversation then shifted to the lives of the merchants in the caravan. He learned that Barthos and his wife were the only ones brave enough to have their children with them while conducting their business travel. The others told Flinx that they were sure that Barthos was carrying a powerful magic item that allowed him to be confident in bringing his family with him while conducting his business.
Flinx was a little gratified that everyone was friendly with him, but one of them admitted that they had learned that he sold an extremely pure and white salt to Barthos and was hoping he had other items with him that he could sell to them. He laughed apologetically and told the caravan merchants, who already knew his history because the Beldor town folks never kept it a secret, that he only managed to bring a few things from where he came from.
He could have purchased things from his System Shopping Site and sold them to the caravan merchants to make sure that he would have a closer relationship with them, but he did not want to be known as someone who was carrying a lot of things. He also did not want to shift his attention to trading because he was not interested in gold. He could sell his things for mana stone, but then again, his main focus was to increase his level as soon as possible.
The caravan merchants left after the night had deepened. Finally, Flinx was alone, but instead of reviewing his spell list and studying the next spells he would purchase as he planned to do, he felt tired. He did talk to the other caravan people for hours, so he just decided to sleep. He entered his thick sleeping bag. The temperature was low, but his sleeping bag made him comfortable. After turning off his lantern, he was soon asleep.
The next day, Flinx woke up refreshed. He did his business using the bucket that he saw inside the wagon, but cleaned it immediately using his Prestidigitation spell; the smell did not even have time to spread. Then cleaned himself using the same spell. He really loved the Prestidigitation spell and was sure that it was the main reason why none of the dungeon miner slaves became sick due to hygiene issues. Not needing to wash his ass after shitting since the spell made sure that he was clean made his life easy. The spell also made sure that every part of his body, including his teeth, his clothes, and basically everything he owned, was clean.
Flinx was also grateful that he did not have any trash since he could delete it using the trash bin icon located in his System Shopping Site as long as the trash came from the items he purchased from his system. He liked the Prestidigitation spell so much that he continued using it, so that the whole inside of the wagon, including the item stocks placed there by the merchants, became extremely clean.
