DMS Chapter 34
Flinx returned to his land after teleporting back to Beldor Town and was a little happy that he arrived without any mishap. If he was being honest with himself, he was still wary of making a mistake when teleporting back.
When he arrived beside the bench that he purchased, Flinx cast his Galder’s Tower spell, and his wizard tower appeared. He went to the washroom to take a bath and put on his pajamas after he was done.
While he was on his bed, Flinx contemplated why he behaved with extreme cowardice when he was hurt by the giant horned crocodiles' lightning bolts. During the two years that he was a slave of the wizards, he received much more painful tortures three or four times a week. He thought that with that kind of experience, a little pain was something that he could take without any issue. But then, when he felt that two lightning bolts, his will crumbled immediately.
After a while, he theorized that his cowardice stemmed from the fact that he was deathly afraid to be enslaved and tortured again and that attacks by the monsters reminded him that it was still possible to happen to him again, especially when he planned to return to the wizards’ planet to rescue his fellow Earthlings.
Flinx also knew that the only way for him to cure himself of that cowardice was to face it head-on, but he would be intelligent about it. He would start preparing himself extensively. He would purchase the spells that he would need to make sure that he would be ready for any confrontations. He would then create extensive theories and simulations for every battle possible, like what he would do if he encountered melee monsters or long ranged monsters, or magical monsters. He would need to learn how to utilize his spells, including those that could divert enemies' attentions like illusion spells.
What it all meant was, he would need to stop and do some research. Thankfully, his access to the internet would help him with that project. During the next few hours, Flinx studied all of the spells that he had access to and those that he could buy. He was sitting in the chair with an open notebook and a pen on the small table that was the one beside his bed. He made notes of all the spells that he could use in battle.
After that, he went to different fantasy role-playing game websites, reading about different battle simulations that campaigners did, particularly how they utilized the spells that were available to them.
When he became hungry, Flinx would purchase food from his system shopping site. Since his account was empty, he input 10 low-level mana stones in his system shopping site, causing the money there to return to 1000 dollars. He then spent 30 dollars on a meal. It was costly but delicious. Once he was done, he returned to reviewing the different spell effects and battle simulations that were posted by campaigners over the internet.
He also resorted to viewing gameplays of fantasy role-playing games over the most famous streaming website, like the Neverwinter Nights series, Baldur’s Gate, and even those console games like Shadow Over Mystara.
Flinx didn’t know if they were useful to him or if he was just wasting his time, but the gameplay gave him ideas on how he could utilize his spells.
After several hours of studying, he started purchasing the spells that he thought would bolster his defenses. For the 1st level spells, he purchased the spells Absorb Elements, False Life, Grease, Feather Fall, Sleep, and Tenser’s Floating Disk. All of the 1st-level spells that he purchased cost 18 low-level mana stones.
Since it was early, he changed his clothes and teleported back into the forest. He wanted to get used to all the 1st-level spells that he purchased before he purchased the next set of spells. He didn’t want to overwhelm himself with a large amount of spells that would remain unused in his spellbook.
Flinx spent the next couple of hours practicing just the 1st-level spells. After that, he teleported back home, took a shower, and started studying again. He created battle simulations using only the 1st-level spells and then noted them down in his notebook.
After some time, he noticed that the sun had set. He renewed the Galder’s Tower spell and ate dinner that he ordered from his system shopping site for 30 dollars. Flinx then remembered that he hadn’t counted his gains from the recent battle, but decided to hold off on doing it since it was just a couple of battles. He would just add the count after his next battle.
When he was done with his dinner, he wasted a couple of hours watching a movie. Since he felt sleepy, he rested. The next day, he planned to proceed with purchasing the 2nd-level spells that he might be able to use to bolster his survivability.
Before that, though, Flinx took a shower and spent another 30 dollars purchasing breakfast from his system shopping site. He knew that his food expenditure was high, but at that moment, he didn’t care.
He knew, though, that the best thing that he could do to save money was to purchase raw ingredients and prepare them himself. He could use his 4th tab space ability to stop time to make sure that all the food that he would prepare would remain as fresh as the day he made it, but decided he would do that later.
Flinx turned his attention to the 2nd-level spells. He spent time studying all the 2nd-level spells so he could purchase the best ones that could increase his survivability and offensive power. The spells that he purchased were Air Bubble, Arcane Lock, Blur, Darkness, Dark Vision, Flock of Familiars, Gust of Wind, Hold Person, and Rime’s Binding Ice.
The 9 2nd-level spells that he bought cost him 54 low-level mana stones. He thought of checking out the 3rd-level spells, but then Flinx thought that it would be best to familiarize himself with the newly bought spells.
He went outside his tower, dispelled it, and then proceeded to go outside the town. When he was far enough from the town that his spellcasting would not disturb the townspeople, he started casting his newly bought spells one by one. He did it for several hours until he was truly familiar with each of the spells. After that, he spent a few more hours practicing all of his spells.
By the time the sun was setting, Flinx felt that he still had not had enough practice, so he decided to continue practicing spellcasting the next day.
He teleported back beside the park bench that he purchased from his system shopping site, which he placed beside one of the trees in his land, and was thankful that he arrived there without any mishaps. Flinx wondered when he would be able to teleport without doubting himself.
He cast the Galder’s Tower spell, and his tower reappeared. Flinx checked the amount of money he still had left in his system shopping site and saw that he had around 910 dollars. He spent 50 bucks purchasing food from McDonald's and ate unhealthy fast food. After that, he took a bath and then went to his bed to rest. He had decided to hold off on continuing to decimate the monsters in the forest for a few days and practice spellcasting. He needed to get used to casting his spells in any type of situation. He also needed to get used to casting his defensive spells before any battle.
