Strongest Maid In Another World

The caravan arrived at Aveldon, the small humble town coming into view as Loraine, Sarah, and the rest of the adventurers prepared to get off. The travelling merchant hopped off his seat, walking up to the Loraine and the rest of the group, a small smile playing on his lips.

"Since it’s way too dark out, we’ll rest here for the night. Feel free to go and check in at the inns, or perhaps fetch yourself a drink if you all feel like it, but make sure to be back here in the morning!" The travelling merchant said, everyone understanding the instructions as they all nodded and went their separate ways.

The adventurers split up as they moved through the town of Aveldon, some going to rest at an inn, and other seeking more fun activities as they headed to pub, the sounds of wild partying and music ringing out faintly in the streets.

Loraine took in the sight of the place, breathing in the air of the small, but humble town. Her eyes scanned the area, looking for any signs of an adventurer guild anywhere, but she couldn’t see any from where she was located.

’Maybe It’s located somewhere else?’ Loraine thought to herself, scratching her chin contemplatively. ’I really want to register as an adventurer, but I can’t do that if Sarah is here, she’ll think I’m crazy for even saying such a thing. I guess sneaking out is the only other option I have left.’

"Hey Loraine, wanna check in at that inn over there?" Sarah said, tugging at Loraine’s sleeve as she pointed at a nearby inn, the faint lights signaling that it was still open at this hour. Yura turned to look at the inn they were going to be staying in, it didn’t look to be anything fancy, but if the outside was anything to go by then it probably wouldn’t be too expensive.

"Already tired huh? Are you girls not going to see the place for a bit? We are leaving first thing in the morning, no?" Yura asked, raising a brow at Sarah and Loraine. "The others are going to go have fun, are you sure you wouldn’t want to join them?"

A nervous sweat broke down Sarah’s face as she turned to look at where the other adventurers were going, as she wasn’t the type to engage in those kinds of activities.

"No thanks, we’re good, I wouldn’t want to indulge in alcohol and wake up with a nasty headache tomorrow." She said, turning to Loraine as she jabbed the white haired maiden in the stomach "And you’re not going to either!"

Loraine doubled over from Sarah’s jab, a small laugh escaping her throat. "You say that as I even had the privilege to drink alcohol," She said. "Besides, my interests lies elsewhere." She said, looking up at the night sky, the stars twinkling above them.

"Alright then, I suppose we could check in for the night." Loraine responded, reaching down to grab Sarah’s hand as they made their way to the inn, walking side by side as they waved the other adventurers and Yura goodnight.

Stepping into the inn, a small bell chimed to announce their presence, the smells of food, light chatter, and a small humble lighting the first things to greet them. Loraine scanned the lobby for a moment before landing on a chubby woman, the receptionist waving at them as they approached her.

"Good evening, welcome to the Starry Night, are you here to check in the night?" The woman greeted them, flashing a kind warm smile.

Loraine nodded, "Yes we are, how much would it cost to rent a room for the night?" Loraine asked.

"That would be 12 copper coins," The woman responded, looking at Sarah and Loraine for a moment as she raised a brow. "Are you two perhaps going to be sharing it? Our single rooms only have one bed, so I’m not sure it would be very comfortable with two people." She said.

Sarah’s eyes widened in surprise at the woman’s statement, realizing what Loraine was doing, the white haired maiden meeting her flustered gaze with a smirk on her lips.

"Loraine!" Sarah exclaimed in a flustered tone, "You can’t just do that! Why are you only renting out one room? We should sleep in different quarters." She said, the racing beat of her flustered heart catching Loraine’s ears.

Loraine’s eyes drooped down playfully, her expression turning to a sad one. "But...I promised to protect you, how am I meant to do that if you’re sleeping in a different room?" Loraine asked, Sarah’s face burning a bright shade of red as she couldn’t believe the audacity of her best friend.

"Besides, we’ve already slept together once, it wouldn’t be so bad if we were to do it again~" Loraine said with a teasing smirk, Sarah having enough of Loraine’s playful ministrations as she reached down into her pockets, grabbing her own pouch of coins as she tossed a few coppers out on her hand.

"Here! Separate room please!" Sarah said, slamming her hand down on the counter as she paid the price for one room, surprising Loraine as she didn’t expect Sarah to pay with her own money.

’Nooo! Why’d you have to go and do that! Now I feel all guilty damnit!’ Loraine thought to herself, feeling stupid that her teasing backfired on her.

The receptionist merely chuckled at their playful banter, finding it quite amusing. She grabbed both their payments and later pulled out two separate room keys, handing them to Loraine and Sarah.

Loraine analyzed her room key for a moment, a small tag connecting to the silver metal with a number attached it labelled 042, glancing over at Sarah’s to read that she got 051.

’Damn, did she really have to put that much space between us?’ Loraine thought to herself, while she was merely teasing Sarah with protecting her, deep down Loraine was actually being truthful and wanted nothing more than to protect her best friend.

They were in a new town, far from home, and danger could be lurking anywhere, Loraine needed to be alert and do everything in her power to protect Sarah at all costs.

"Your rooms are both on the second floor, would you both like to try out our meal service and order dinner, you could even meet other people over some delicious food while you’re at it." The woman said.

Loraine turned to look at Sarah, "You hungry? We could eat together if you want, at least don’t deny me this. I’m not letting you sleep on an empty stomach." She said, Sarah looking into Loraine’s sincere eyes, wondering if her best friend was teasing her for a moment, before sighing and reluctantly accepting her offer.

"Alright, sure, we can eat together if you’d like, just don’t order anything too crazy." Sarah said, looking at Loraine who had a mischievous smirk on her face. The woman handed them both menus and directed them down the hall where the dining room was located.

’Oh...these look good, they are a bit pricey but...I’m sure Sarah wouldn’t mind, right?’ Loraine thought with a evil grin on her face, going through the menu as they arrived at the dining hall.

The moment they stepped in the sounds of adventurers and local townsfolk conversing was louder than ever, some were passed out from drinking, and others were preaching tales of their journeys and the monsters found in Dungeons.

Loraine guided Sarah to a nearby table, seated a bit further from everyone else in a quiet corner.

Her eyes scanned the room for a moment, using her [Maiden’s Intuition] Skill to identity any possible threat in the room, breathing a sigh of relief as she didn’t find anyone that could pose a threat to them.

A waitress soon approached them, smiling warmly as she held her pen and notepad in her hand. "Evening ladies, what you like to order?" She asked.

Loraine glanced over at Sarah, the blonde haired woman couldn’t help but get a bad feeling about this.

’Just what is she planning?’ She thought to herself.

"Yeah, so uhh...can we get this....this....maybe this as well, that would be great...oh and add this to the side as well!" Loraine began ordering a lot of the restaurants finest dishes, pointing all over the menu as she wanted to spoil her best friend a bit and treat her well.

The waitress jolted her orders down, eyes wide with surprise as she didn’t expect Loraine to order all of the restaurant’s greatest dishes, wondering if Loraine was even going to be able to pay for it all, as judging by her outfit, she was just an ordinary maid.

’Is she perhaps going to spend all of her savings to treat out her friend?’ The receptionist asked, curiously raising a brow to herself as she glanced at Sarah.

"And what about you miss?" The receptionist asked Sarah, but before the blonde haired maiden could reply, Loraine quickly shut her off.

"That’ll be everything!" Loraine quickly interjected, surprising Sarah as the waitress nodded excusing herself as left them alone.

"You seriously didn’t order that much food right?" Sarah asked, Loraine letting out a small laugh at her best friend’s words.

After a while of waiting, the waitress returned, carrying forth a plethora of dishes, the rich aroma immediately hitting their noses as she sat the wide array of dishes down on their table, Sarah’s eyes widening as she realized that these were the restaurant’s best dishes.

"Loraine what the hell!?"
