Chapter 40: Don't deceive yourself
The ritual could not be paused midway, which posed a massive challenge for Sion.
"Sion!" Meteria's eyes were filled with worry.
At the very end, Sion collapsed to the ground.
"Suppression level... one hundred percent!" Alfia murmured, before noticing Sion's collapse.
She rushed out instinctively, her speed so fast that Meteria and Riveria couldn't even detect her movements.
She caught Sion as he fell before the other two could even react, but the moment she made contact, her entire body trembled.
"Mmh..."
She had only caught his falling body at most but his face had briefly rested against her chest. She also...collapsed to the floor, becoming Sion's cushion.
The imprint spell itself had no side effects. It was simply that the intense process had drastically heightened her physical and tactile sensitivity.
Lying blankly on the floor, feeling Sion's breath so close to her, her mind went blank for a moment.
"Sion! Sister!" Meteria exclaimed in surprise, running over to help lift Sion up.
Alfia only recovered her senses after Sion's body was lifted off her.
"He has reached Mind zero," Alfia helped Meteria as she stood up. "He already prepared for this. Next, I will activate the secondary ritual to help him recover from his overexertion."
Sion had prepared two sets of rituals beforehand. One set was the massive imprint array cluster, and the other was a simple recovery circle.
Completing this final step would minimize the severe aftereffects of mind zero.
Soon, Alfia used the recovery circle on Sion.
"He is a good man... someone who gave us hope. May the gods bless you," Alfia murmured softly, after carrying him to his room and arranging him in a comfortable position, looking down at the unconscious Sion.
"Sister?" Meteria stared at Alfia in surprise.
Looking into Meteria's eyes, Alfia calmed down, suppressing her emotion.
And gave her a nod.
"I see," Meteria chuckled softly, a knowing smile playing on her lips.
Sister, did you fell in love with Sion?
Alfia's initial impression of Sion was not bad to begin with, and she'd recognized his abilities and accepted his help. By that point, Alfia had already begun to accept Sion's presence, so Meteria was not surprised by her current attitude.
For some reason, Alfia felt somewhat irritable.
"What are you laughing at?" Alfia forced herself to calm down and looked at Meteria, demanding an answer.
"It is nothing... it's just that Sion is so charming," Meteria chuckled softly.
"Charming?" Alfia did not understand Meteria's line of thought.
"When I first found Sion, he was like a prince in distress. He constantly drew my heart in," Meteria laughed. "Now, it seems my sister is feeling the same way."
My heart is drawn to him?
Are you kidding me?
From birth until now, you are the only person I have ever truly loved...
Alfia thought to herself, but she didn't say it aloud.
"Don't deceive yourself," Meteria gave her a meaningful laugh, which only made Alfia more irritated.
"Putting that nonsense aside, he does possess a talent that is exceptionally rare in this world," Alfia tried to change the subject.
"And unlike the world's absolute fear of my talent, his talent is closer to true greatness."
If a hero was defined as someone who had accomplished feats that even the gods marveled at... then this man was a Hero in the field of magic.
His future was even more promising than that of the Hero, Argonaut.
Even heroes have their limits, but the heights this boy was looking toward were something even an adventurer like Alfia could not fully imagine.
This was the first time she'd ever felt inferior to someone else.
