Danmachi: The Magic Grandmaster

Chapter 39: Alfia: I'm sorry

Enchantment magic was a type of spell that enveloped the user's body. Either buffing their combat capabilities or having debuff.

For example, Ais's Ariel and Alfia's Silentium eden.

The former was the blessing of the wind, which allowed Ais to fight far beyond her level. At level 6, it granted her parameters capable of rivaling the level 7 ottar.

The latter was a buff as well as a debuff that nullified incoming spells. Even Alfia's own spells would get weakened if cast while it was active.

Sion intended to perfect his flight spell by incorporating enchantment properties, so he needed to observe the foundational effects of this specific type of spell up close.

Enchantment spells were exceptionally rare. He'd been harboring this idea for a while, and he only brought it up now because Alfia technically owed him.

Given the circumstances, it was impossible for her to refuse Sion's small request.

"Could i see your spells."

"Fine."

After looking at Sion, Alfia activated her magic.

"Silentium eden."

It was a concurrent chant. As soon as the words left her lips, a shockwave materialized around her body.

The moment the spell activated, the symbol over Alfia's heart began to rapidly dissolve. The Enchantment's properties were actively erasing the suppression imprint currently inscribed on her skin.

"I see. So this is the structure of an enchantment," Sion whispered.

Alfia felt embarrassed under Sion's intense gaze, but she remained silent.

Watching her closely, Sion naturally noticed the sudden pressure and burden crashing down on her body.

This meant the deadly recoil of her negative skill had acted in full force.

Sion suddenly thought of something. He quickly jotted the idea down on the parchment.

Then he turned his attention back to Alfia's spell.

It functioned as if the caster were enveloped by a force field that directly influenced their physical body through its specific magic properties. If this structure were adapted for elementalization, it could drastically enhance the status and grant the user buff infused with that specific element.

For example, spells like Ariel...

"Your hands."

Sion reached out. Alfia understood his intent and placed her hands in his.

Even though she knew he meant no harm, Alfia couldn't help but feel a flicker of unease under Sion's gaze.

In truth, she had almost gotten used to holding hands with Sion during her treatments and they had developed a considerable tacit understanding during their exchanges.

Closing his eyes, Sion pushed his perception to its absolute limit to analyze Alfia's spell. While active sonar detection could be nullified by her field, but what if he channeled his mind directly inside her.

This way, his perception wasn't blocked.

Through observation, Sion gradually memorized the fundamental matrix of her spell.

"Alright, time to begin inscribing the imprint array cluster."

His current focus was not on mastering enchantment spells, so after briefly memorizing its operation, he moved on to the main event.

The magic circle had been set up. Its scope and complexity were staggeringly high. In terms of sheer magic scale, it had reached the tier of high tier magic.

"Here we go."

Sion crushed the pile of magic stones.

Their raw energy got devoured by the circle. Sion then began stabilizing the chaotic Mind.

Using the raw energy from the magic stones to physically etch the formula and maximize the spell's effect was the outermost function of the ritual.

As the Mind got stabilized, Alfia felt the magic effects actively searing into her skin.

First, the heart.

Black runic marks gradually surfaced on her skin, with leylines extending outward from the core nodes. A massive tattoo slowly bloomed across her chest.

A sharp, stinging sensation near her sensitive peaks sent a sudden, intense jolt of pleasure through Alfia's body.

Shoulders, arms, forehead, abdomen, thighs and feet.

Her chest and abdomen in particular were completely covered in complex interwoven runic patterns. The base efficiency of suppressing the skill recoil was relatively low per rune, meaning the spell could only achieve a qualitative change through sheer quantity and surface area coverage.

Moreover, it'd have been optimal to place the bulk of the array on her back rather than her front.

Unfortunately, an adventurer's falna was engraved on their back.

So embarrassing, Alfia murmured inwardly, keeping her face stoic.

Feeling the intense heat pooling in her lower, Alfia blushed and couldn't help but feel an urge to cry out.

She discreetly glanced at Sion. Noticing his eyes were tired shut and he looked terrible.

Alfia felt suffocated, she wanted him to stop.

He looks tired...

Channeling external mind through a ritual reduced the drain on his own Mind, but it took a massive toll on his stamina.

Moreover, he had been maintaining this grueling spell without stopping for even a moment.

He had been continuously chanting and guiding the mind for hours on end just to sustain the spellcasting process for my sake.

I'm sorry, Sion...
