Chapter 226: I hadn’t lost Sonia
RAMON’S POV
"Stay down," I whispered to my wolf. My voice came low against the tree bark. "We watch. Nothing more."
My wolf paced inside me instead. Restless and very Angry.
He wanted to tear through every guard between us, he wanted Sonia in our arms. He wanted our mate home.
I closed my eyes.
"Not yet," I whispered again.
He answered with a low growl that echoed through my chest.
Suddenly, my wolf pushed hard inside me. He growled low.
You fought her for so long. You rejected her wolf and humiliated her. Now you hide like a coward while she carries your blood. You even dare to choose some evil slur over your own fated mate, Ramon?
Are you fit to be call an Alpha, to lead a pack?
The words hit sharp, I pressed my forehead harder against the rough bark.
He was right, I had been against Sonia from the start and I had let my hate for her father blind me, I had pushed her away and hurt her. Now she stood here. And I stayed hidden like a fool.
I remembered the first day she arrived in Bloodmoon.
She had looked so small standing in the middle of strangers.
I hadn’t seen fear. I had only seen Fenrins’ daughter. That was my first mistake. Every mistake after that came easier.
I don’t believe that I choosed Lorena over Sonia, the calm, intelligent, beautiful and talented young Sonia.
Fuck!
I stayed longer than I planned, my legs ached from crouching. The way she moved showed care, like she carried something precious—She stopped near a low bench as her hand went to her belly and she rubbed it slowly and also in a protective way.
The dress stretched tight over the round curve, this made my breath caught. I watched her every movement, with quiet strength in her shoulders even when she looked tired.
She looked radiant, her skin glowed soft under the moonlight, her red hair fell loose and caught the light and this made my chest tightened.
A smile crossed my face despite everything.
I had not smiled like that in weeks, my heart ached with love and regret. I had pushed her away. I had hurt her. Now she carried life. And I stayed hidden in the dark.
Jealousy came next, and my mind still searched for another answer.
Something that explained what I was seeing.
Anything but the truth standing in front of me.
Who gave her this child? The thought burned.
I imagined another man’s hands on her and my hands clenched into fists with the bark bit into my palms, I fought the urge to step out. To demand answers and to pull her close and never let go.
My wolf stirred again. "Fool," he said.
"You smell it. Our blood. Our pup."
The wind shifted and her scent carried clear across the garden. Soft, familiar and it was mine.
The realization hit me like a gut punch.
The child was mine.
My breath stopped and joy flooded me first. Sharp and bright. Then fear came right after. She carried my child. In Fenrins’ territory.
Protectiveness rose strong. I would tear the world apart to keep them safe. Self-hatred followed fast. I had done this, I had driven her here, I had let my hate for her father blind me to what mattered.
My hands shook, I pressed them harder against the tree, rough bark grounded me. I stayed hidden. Unable to look away.
Sonia laughed at something Ivy said. The sound reached me soft. It cracked something open in my chest. Warm. Painful.
I whispered her name. "Sonia."
My wolf pushed harder. "Go to her. Claim what is ours."
I reached for the mindlink. The connection opened quiet. "Blane," I sent. "I found Ivy. She is safe. Do not come. Stay with the pack. I will handle this."
I cut the link before he could answer. I did not tell him more. Not about Sonia. Not about the child, for now I’ll not tell him about that.
The secret felt heavy and Important. I needed time to understand it first.
I have my own child, my very own child not the one Lorena was about to pin on me. Ferins child. Ahhh...I am the worst Alpha that have every ruled Bloodmoon.
Sonia touched her belly again. She smiled but the sight broke me open wider. Yearning filled every part of me.
I wanted to hold her, to touch the belly that carried our child, to tell her I was sorry for every cruel word, and for every time I let my hate blind me.
My wolf snarled. "You see now? She is ours. The pup carries our line. I feel this pull and not that of Lorena, Ena, Rena, what so ever you call that bitch,"
My wolf, Eruius was correct, I don’t have to defend myself at all.
I took one step toward the garden before I could stop myself.
The leaves crunched softly beneath my boot.
Sonia’s head lifted a little.
I froze.
Every muscle in my body locked. I didn’t breathe. My heart slammed so hard against my ribs I was sure she would hear it.
She looked around the garden for a moment. Her eyes drifted over the flowers, the trees, and the stone wall where I hid.
Please...Don’t look this way.
I wasn’t ready.
After a long second, she relaxed. She turned back to Ivy, saying something too quiet for me to hear.
The air rushed from my lungs. I closed my eyes and rested my forehead against the rough bark behind me. My hands shook. It took everything inside me not to climb over that wall.
My wolf clawed at me.
"Go to her. She needs us. Our pup needs us." He urged.
"I know," I whispered, my voice barely louder than the wind. "I know."
My eyes found Sonia again.
She rested her hand over her belly, her thumb moving in slow circles as if she was comforting the little life growing inside her.
A smile touched her lips.
Small and yes, gentle. It wasn’t forced.
My chest tightened until it hurt, I should have been beside her, I should have been the one making her smile.
The one holding her hand. The one waiting for our child with her. Instead, I was hiding in the shadows like a stranger.
The weight of my mistakes settled heavily on my shoulders.
Every cruel word I had thrown at her. Every moment I chose my pride over her heart.
I could never take them back.
Sonia started walking toward the house.
Ivy stayed close beside her, slowing her steps to match Sonia’s pace.
She was protecting her. Looking after her. A small part of me was grateful. At least Sonia wasn’t alone.
She stopped at the doorway and looked back at the garden one last time.
For one foolish second, I thought she had sensed me.
My heart leaped. But she only smiled softly at the flowers before disappearing inside.
The door closed.
The garden fell silent. It felt empty without her.
"I’ll come back," I whispered into the darkness.
The promise settled deep inside me. "I’ll come back for both of you."
No matter how many wolves stood in my way.
No matter what it cost me.
I pushed myself away from the tree and disappeared into the forest.
Each step felt heavier than the last. The farther I walked, the stronger the pull in my chest became.
It begged me to turn around.
To run back.
To fight for them now.
My wolf howled his agreement.
But I forced my feet to keep moving.
Not tonight, because I wasn’t ready. Fenrins’ wolves were too close.
One mistake would put Sonia and our child in danger.
I wouldn’t risk that.
The house slowly disappeared behind the trees until only darkness remained. Still, I could see her. Her smile. Her laugh. The way she held our child so carefully.
I ran faster.
The cold wind burned against my face, but it couldn’t clear the ache inside my chest. Tonight changed everything.
I hadn’t lost Sonia.
I had almost lost my family. And I would spend the rest of my life making sure I never lost them again.
