Knotting His Rejected Breeder

Chapter 220: Proof in the Shadows

RAMON’S POV

I was pacing back and forth in my room, the wooden floorboards creaking under my heavy steps as my mind churned with the day’s events. My hands clenched and unclenched at my sides, the familiar itch for action making my wolf restless inside me.

When my room door swung open, and Daisy waltzed in, her usual confident stride cutting through the heavy silence like a knife.

"What are you doing?" She paused, and gave me a once over, her eyes narrowing slightly as she took in my restless movements.

"Shut the door, and tell me I’ve not lost my mind, Daisy."

She shut the door with a firm click, and drew closer to me, her boots soft on the rug. "You haven’t lost your mind— just yet," she added just to spite me, the corner of her mouth twitching with amusement.

I rolled my eyes, and she laughed, the sound bright and unfiltered in the quiet room. "What is it this time, Ramon? Are you tired of living? If you want to end it all, just give me a heads-up please. There are things in this pack I need in mine."

"Daisy focus!"

"Fine! What is it then? Hurry up and tell me." She snapped her finger twice, leaning against the edge of my desk as she crossed her arms.

"It’s Lorena. She has lost her mind. I mean she lost her mind today. Kept talking about me making her my Luna, just to prove I’m over Sonia."

"Is she crazy? You can’t get over, Sonia. That’s literally your fated mate. But asides that fact, she might not be too insane. That girl has had it hot for you from the second she walked into your pack. I’m not surprised she wants some commitment. So what is it going to be, alpha player? Your fated mate, or the sexy mistress?" she smirked playfully, her eyes sparkling with mischief as she tilted her head.

"This is not funny, Daisy. Why do I even bother talking to you?"

I turned away from her, but she was quick to move around, and step in front of me again, blocking my path with a raised brow.

"What you need to do first is breathe. Then when you’re calm enough, go talk to her. Tell her that due to the circumstances the pack has found itself, you can’t focus on anything other than protecting the pack. Tell her that she also needs to focus all of her attention on the child. When those two cases are settled, then you can make a decision on what you’d rather do."

"Wow, you come in clutch sometimes, despite how annoying you are."

"Hey, don’t ruin it." She threw a punch, but I saw that coming, and easily dodged it, my hand catching her wrist lightly before releasing it.

"Problem is, Lorena has gone to her former pack to mourn her parents. It’s the anniversary of their death."

"Yeah, I remember. Why didn’t you go for your father? And why didn’t Ivy go for her mother?"

"My father is buried here. I don’t know about Ivy. She said she had somewhere to go. Do you think that’s where she went? Silly me!" I palmed my forehead, the realization hitting me like a fresh wave of frustration.

"Where did you think she went?"

"Well she refused to tell me, so I wouldn’t know."

"But?" She asked in a suspicious tone, her eyes narrowing as she studied me closely.

"Why does it have to be a but?"

"Because I know you, Ramon. Even when you act like you don’t care, you love to be on top of things. So quickly, tell me you had someone follow her."

I shuddered internally, weirded out by how well she knew me. The way she could read me so easily always left me slightly off balance, a reminder of how long we had known each other.

"I think you need to spend less time around me, and more in your pack. Or better still, why don’t you go visit Liam. I’m sure he’ll be ecstatic to hear from you."

"Oh I will. On the day he marries Sonia, I’ll be there."

I hissed between my teeth at her poor attempt to mess with me. The mental image of that—Sonia in a wedding dress standing beside Liam made my blood boil, a dark heat rising in my chest that made my fists clench at my sides.

Okay it wasn’t actually poor. The mental image of that was the most revolting thing I had ever pictured.

Made me want to punch the face off the first punchable face I could find. My wolf stirred, a low growl building in my throat as the fantasy of violence flashed through my mind.

She burst out laughing, and I whipped my head towards her in curious annoyance, my jaw tight.

"You need to see what you looked like just now. I bet you pictured it in your head, and it got you mad, right?"

"Nothing is funny about any of this, Daisy. And please, leave my room."

"Not before telling you what I have to tell you," she replied stubbornly, crossing her arms as she leaned against the desk again.

"Fine, just say what you have to say, then get out."

"I want you to have my warriors when the time comes to face Ferins. I hear he’s building an even larger army against you. I don’t want you to be caught unprepared when it’s time."

"No, thank you," I replied the second she was done talking, my voice firm as I shook my head.

"I knew you would say that, but I just had to tell you the option is always going to be there. You know I care about you, right?"

"Okay don’t get sappy on me. Please just leave." I pointed at the door, my arm extended as I tried to usher her out.

"You’re such a mood killer. Anyway, your elders are even more fun than you are. I’ll just return to talking to Jenner and Adelaide."

"Do whatever you want. Just leave my pack soon, and return to yours. Isn’t your mate tired of watching you leave him?"

"It keeps the romance alive, Ramon," she said walking to the door, but with her head turned my way. "But what would you know about romance, Ramon? You can’t even keep your mate," she sneered just as she got to the door, her words landing like a well-aimed strike.

"You bi—"

"I didn’t hear that, so it doesn’t count!" She screamed, hurrying out of the door with a laugh that echoed down the hallway.

"Leave my pack!" I screamed after her, but smiled right after. The frustration lingered, but the familiar banter with Daisy had lightened something in my chest, a small crack in the heavy weight I had been carrying.

I felt a lot lighter after talking to Daisy. The conversation, as chaotic as it was, had given me a moment to breathe, to step outside the constant pressure of decisions and doubts.

I was about to return to work, when a knock sounded on my door again. The sound was sharp, insistent, pulling me back into the present with a sigh.

Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath. I could never just go one second in peace. The constant demands of the pack, the endless problems piling up, it felt like the walls were closing in sometimes.

The door opened, and Blane stepped in. Behind him was Daniel. Their expressions were serious, their postures tense as they entered the room.

"What do you both want from me?" I asked, frustration heavy in my voice as I crossed my arms over my chest.

I watched as both pushed themselves to talk first, their eyes darting between each other in a silent standoff.

I really didn’t have time for this, and was okay with leaving them, and finding something better to do with my time. My hand moved toward the papers on my desk, ready to dismiss them.

"What is it?!" I growled when it looked like they were just here to waste my time, my patience finally snapping as I turned to face them fully.

They both stepped back, but Blane used that opportunity to push Daniel forward. The smaller wolf stumbled slightly, shooting Blane a glare before straightening up.

"Hey, that’s not fair," he protested, but turned to me anyway. "We need to talk to you."

"Well, you’re here already, so you might as well start talking."

He turned to Blane, who urged him to go on. But instead of listening, he shook his head in disapproval, his reluctance clear in the way he shifted his weight from foot to foot.

I was ready to walk away, when Blane dropped the bomb.

"You need to come with us. We have proof of Lorena’s unfaithfulness," he said, and my ears stood at full attention. The words hit me like a physical blow, my body going rigid as the room seemed to narrow around me.
