“I love her,” Callum says quietly almost gently. “I have always loved her. She is my true mate, Lumi. The bond is stronger than anything.”
    “So what am I?” The words come out in a whisper that breaks halfway. “If I am not your true mate why didn’t you leave? Why did you marry me?”
    “I didn’t know how to leave because you needed me and I didn’t want to break you.”
    “You pitied me.” I choke out. “Seven years, Callum.” My voice rises raw and ugly.
