My Overpowered Bunny Girls

Chapter 218: The Tournament Begins

The quiet, domestic peace that had settled over the guild hall for the past six months vanished the second they accepted Valerie’s invitation.

The sudden shift from comfortable routine to international competition sent an electric current through the entire building. Bags were hurriedly packed, weapons were polished to a mirror shine by an exhausted Vex, and the media buzz outside their front doors grew to a deafening roar.

As Nathan Cross stood by the tall window in Valerie’s office looking out at the waking capital, he could actually feel the heavy, buzzing anticipation of the World Climber Tournament pressing against the glass.

The heavy office door clicked open behind him.

Garrett walked in first, ducking slightly to clear the frame. Red trotted happily at his boots. The big man was tanned from his months out in the farming regions, his arms noticeably thicker, and his posture completely relaxed. "Man, it’s good to be back in the fire," Garrett grinned, dropping a heavy duffel bag on the floor.

Dillon strolled in right behind him, Cloudy lazily coiled around his shoulders like a buzzing blue scarf. Fresh, thin scars traced Dillon’s forearms—souvenirs from the intense solo training he had mentioned in his texts. "I actually missed you guys," Dillon laughed. "Turns out, normal life is incredibly boring compared to our usual chaos."

Elise was already sitting in a leather chair near the window. She had been down in the TCA archives since dawn, reading over international tournament rules and Artificial Tower lore. She looked up from her datapad and gave Nathan a real, warm smile. "You’re late."

"Traffic," Nathan smiled back.

Smithy slipped into the room last. He didn’t make a sound, moving with the quiet grace of an ex-assassin. His Void Eel swam lazily through the shadows at his boots. He didn’t say anything, but he gave Nathan a firm nod. He was ready.

A bright flash of light lit up the corner of the room as Nathan’s summons popped into reality.

Mirko immediately shifted into her tall humanoid form, planted her hands firmly on her hips, and puffed out her chest. "Hmph! The Bunny Girl Legion is officially assembled! This Knight is ready to win massive amounts of glory!"

’You are ready to win massive amounts of attention,’ Kuro observed drily from the shadows, sitting in her small bunny form.

"Attention is just the first step of glory!" Mirko argued loudly.

Ororo sat nearby in her small, silver-white bunny form, watching the argument with complete, calming amusement. Even though she had unlocked her elegant human form months ago, she still preferred staying small and comfortable when she wasn’t fighting. ’It is very good to see everyone back together in one room,’ Ororo sent gently through the link.

Shiro nodded, crossing her arms. "The Young Lord’s party is finally whole again. This is a very good omen for the battles to come."

Nathan looked around the office at his friends and his summons. This was his family. "Alright, everyone. Break time is officially over. Let’s go make a mess."

The TCA’s armored transport rolled out of the capital at noon.

The highways were absolutely packed. Climbers, sponsors, and fans from every single corner of the country were all converging on the exact same destination. Civilian buses, sleek private cars, and even a few massive flying summons carrying their masters through the clouds. Everyone was heading to the host city.

Nathan watched through the tinted window as the landscape rapidly changed. The green farmland gave way to rocky hills, which quickly melted into a sprawling, dense urban center that seemed to grow taller and wider with every passing mile.

When the host city finally appeared on the horizon, Nathan actually sat up straight.

It was massive. It was easily twice the size of their capital, built entirely around a central stadium that dwarfed every skyscraper around it. Massive holographic banners representing dozens of different countries flew from the high towers. Giant screens mounted on the sides of glass buildings played endless highlight reels from previous tournaments—Climbers clashing, giant summons roaring, and crowds going absolutely wild. The streets below were a total sea of tourists, screaming fans, and camera crews.

"Okay, that is way bigger than I expected," Garrett muttered, pressing his face near the glass.

"It’s bigger than anyone expects their first time," Smithy replied quietly. "This is the single biggest event on the planet. Every nation sends their absolute best killers. Every major guild watches. Every politician is looking for a new pawn."

The heavy transport pulled through a guarded gate into a massive compound reserved strictly for the Central Federation’s national delegation. The party grabbed their bags and stepped out into the afternoon sun. The compound was basically a small military base—it had multiple sleeping quarters, private training yards, a massive cafeteria, and a state-of-the-art medical wing.

Other members of their national team were already walking around the courtyard. Some gave Nathan’s party warm, welcoming waves. Others just leaned against the walls and watched them with cold, measuring eyes. Every single person in the compound radiated heavy, dangerous mana.

Nathan ignored the stares. He slung his bag over his shoulder, his mind entirely focused on the days ahead.

That evening, the opening ceremony kicked off in the grand stadium.

The structure was breathtaking. It was a bowl of steel and glass so large it felt like it could hold a small mountain. The stands stretched dizzyingly high into the night sky, packed shoulder-to-shoulder with hundreds of thousands of screaming spectators. Massive floating screens displayed the empty tournament brackets and team rosters. The air literally hummed with raw, electric anticipation.

Then, the stadium lights completely cut out.

The crowd went dead silent. High above the field, massive holographic banners ignited one by one, lighting up the dark.

The Eastern Dominion.

The Northern Coalition.

The Southern Republic.

The Western Federation.

The Free Territories.

The Central Federation.

The announcer’s voice boomed over the speakers, and the teams began to walk out onto the perfectly manicured field. As each country stepped into the light, their national banner blazed above them, and the crowd let out a deafening, chest-rattling roar.

When the Central Federation was finally called, Nathan led his party out of the dark tunnel and into the blinding stadium lights. The noise was physical—it hit them like a shockwave. As Nathan walked, he could feel heavy eyes tracking his movements from the other teams lined up on the grass.

Kaito Shimizu. Arthur Reinhardt. Han Seo-jun. Long Wei. Amara Okoye.

All the heavy hitters from the TCA intelligence briefs were standing right there.

A massive pillar of pale light suddenly shot down into the dead center of the stadium. A giant holographic figure appeared, the referee, A magical construct. It had no face, just a smooth, glowing orb that displayed emojis. When it spoke, its voice bypassed the speakers and echoed directly into the minds of everyone in the stadium.

"Welcome, Climbers. The World Climber Tournament begins now."

The crowd absolutely lost its mind.

After the long, flashy ceremony, a mandatory mixer was held in the stadium’s lower halls, forcing the different national teams to mingle.

Nathan finally came face-to-face with the people he was going to have to fight.

Kaito Shimizu walked right up to him. The man from the Eastern Dominion was incredibly tall and broad-shouldered, carrying himself with a relaxed dangerous confidence, as if he had never lost a fight in his life. His dark eyes were razor-sharp, scanning Nathan’s gear like a math problem he was trying to solve.

"Your efficiency score in the TCA trials was very impressive," Kaito said, his voice deep and smooth. "But tactical efficiency means absolutely nothing when you are crushed by overwhelming power."

Nathan met his gaze without blinking. "I guess we’ll see."

Kaito gave a slow, arrogant smile. "Yes. We will."

Arthur Reinhardt approached next. The famous Paladin from the Northern Coalition was built like a brick wall, but he was polite, offering a firm, respectful handshake. "I have heard a lot of rumors about your party, Cross. You’ve done some very good work out in the wild. I look forward to seeing what you can do in a fair fight."

"Likewise," Nathan nodded.

Han Seo-jun didn’t bother coming over to talk. The top Assassin from the Southern Republic just stood in the far corner of the room, sipping a drink. His cold, dead eyes tracked Nathan’s every single movement. Nathan felt the heavy, icy weight of the assassin’s gaze, but he didn’t give him the satisfaction of looking back.

Long Wei, the tactician from the Free Territories, walked over with a warm, easy smile. "I’ve watched your old tapes. You fight using actual strategy. That is incredibly rare these days. Most Climbers just try to swing their weapons harder than the other guy. I respect a thinker."

"Strategy is all I have," Nathan lied smoothly, keeping his new S-Rank Overlord powers completely locked down.

Long Wei laughed, his eyes sparkling with intelligence. "No. You have far more than that hiding in there. I can see it."

Amara Okoye was the last to approach. The Spirit Hunter from the Western Federation had a bright, curious energy about her. She looked at Nathan with deep fascination. "The spirits have been whispering to me about you all night. The Bunny King. They say your energy is very... interesting."

"Is that a good interesting, or a bad interesting?" Nathan asked.

"An interesting interesting," Amara smiled warmly. "I really look forward to learning more about it in the arena."

Later that night, the party finally escaped the crowds and gathered in their private quarters back at the compound.

The real tournament started tomorrow morning. First up were the Ranking Trials. It was a pure individual competition. No teams. No summons. Every Climber for themselves to seed the tournament brackets.

"Any final thoughts before we try to sleep?" Garrett asked, tossing his heavy boots into the corner.

Nathan looked around the quiet room at his friends. "We aren’t here to make friends with those guys. We aren’t here to act like heroes. We are here to win. But more importantly, we are here to learn. This tournament is just a game, but the people we are fighting are the real deal. Whatever happens out there on the dirt, we face it together."

Elise walked over and took his hand, her grip firm. "Together."

Mirko pumped her fist in the air. "For the Bunny Girl Legion!"

Kuro gave a slow nod from the shadows. Shiro smiled warmly. Ororo politely bowed her head.

They stood together in the quiet room, perfectly in sync, completely ready for whatever the morning was going to throw at them.
