Naruto: Multiverse Character Templates

Chapter 91: Chunin Exams Begin

Early in the morning, Natsuki and Nonō arrived at Mito's residence.

"Natsuki, Nonō, long time no see!"

Kushina smiled and waved at them.

"Good morning."

Nawaki also stopped training and greeted them.

"I already heard Nawaki tell me about what happened during your mission this time."

Kushina said with an envious expression, "I wonder when I'll be able to go on missions with you."

"There will be chances in the future."

Natsuki thought for a moment and said, "Kushina, I brought you a gift."

"What gift?"

Kushina subconsciously moved closer, anticipation appearing on her pretty face.

Natsuki caught a faint fragrance.

After graduating, Kushina was still youthful, but it was already obvious that she would grow into a beauty.

Natsuki stretched out his hand.

Five miniature dolls appeared one by one.

They were precisely the dolls from the Bickslow Template.

"So cute!"

Kushina cried out in surprise, then took the five dolls into her hands and examined them carefully.

"When did you buy dolls?"

Nawaki asked in confusion.

In the Land of Ame, they had been busy doing missions every day. Logically speaking, there should have been no time to buy dolls.

"Yesterday."

Natsuki paused and said, "I bought a set for you too."

After he finished speaking, he summoned two more sets of five dolls.

"Since you're giving them to me, I'll accept them."

Nawaki was not very interested in dolls, but he could not refuse Natsuki's goodwill either.

Nonō took the dolls and, just like Kushina, happily looked them over.

Natsuki gave them dolls because he could control dolls with his soul.

If they encountered danger, he could help them at a critical moment.

If they went missing or were kidnapped, he could also find them through the dolls.

"Is everyone here?"

Tsunade, who had just finished seeing Mito, walked out.

"Tsunade-sama."

Kushina suddenly thought of something and asked, "Can I take part in the Chunin Exams?"

When Nawaki had told her about the trip to the Land of Ame earlier, he had also mentioned that they were going to take part in the Chunin Exams.

"With your strength, you can indeed take part in the Chunin Exams."

Tsunade paused slightly and said thoughtfully, "The only problem is that you don't have teammates."

"Can't I participate alone?"

Kushina clenched her fist and said fiercely, "When the time comes, I can send all of them flying by myself!"

"Besides individual battles, the Chunin Exams also have team battles."

Tsunade thought for a moment and said, "I'll ask Sensei and see how he arranges it."

"Thank you, Tsunade-sama!"

Kushina was very happy.

Taking part in the Chunin Exams was not her goal. Taking part in the Chunin Exams together with Natsuki and the others was her goal.

And the reason Tsunade could agree was mainly because she was not yet the Kyūbi Jinchūriki.

Since she was allowed to attend school, there was no reason not to allow her to take part in the Chunin Exams.

Besides, this Chunin Exam only had Konoha Genin participating, so there would not be any danger.

"I have one candidate."

Natsuki suddenly said, "When I was training by running before, I met a Genin named Might Duy."

He was not lying.

When he had run around Konoha before, he had indeed seen Might Duy.

Although the two of them had not really interacted, Natsuki knew his strength far too well.

At the same time, he also felt it was a pity for him.

In the original work, he remained a Genin until the day he died.

Might Guy was much more normal in comparison. He was smoothly promoted to Chunin and eventually became a Jonin.

But the reason he could progress normally was because Might Duy turned the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of Kirigakure into the Lucky Three, which made Guy receive attention.

Aside from Might Duy, Konoha also had another lifelong Genin, Kosuke Maruboshi.

He was truly a veteran. Even the Second Hokage, Senju Tobirama, had once taught him Water Release.

In terms of seniority, he was of the same generation as Hiruzen and the others. Even Hiruzen would not dare neglect him.

The reason he became a lifelong Genin was because, in his youth, he had gotten his teammates killed due to his impulsiveness. This was the punishment he gave himself.

Because his situation was special, Natsuki did not recommend him.

Might Duy was more suitable.

At this time, he was still very young, around nineteen or twenty years old, which was exactly the age to take part in the Chunin Exams.

In the original work, Uzumaki Naruto and the others taking part in the Chunin Exams at such a young age was actually the exception.

After all, geniuses were always the minority.

Of course, there was another reason Natsuki recommended Might Duy.

The third round of the Chunin Exams was individual battles.

He might be matched against Might Duy.

If he defeated Might Duy, who had the Eight Gates, would he awaken a new character template?

Natsuki's swordsmanship was quite good now, but his pure taijutsu was still somewhat lacking.

If he awakened a character skilled in taijutsu, then he could make up for his weakness in taijutsu.

"Might Duy?"

Tsunade recalled for a moment, but found she had no impression of him, so she asked, "Is there anything special about him?"

"He's a pure taijutsu shinobi."

Natsuki answered.

"There's actually a pure taijutsu shinobi?"

Tsunade asked in surprise.

"How strong can a pure taijutsu shinobi be?"

Nawaki shook his head and said, "Natsuki, don't trick Kushina."

"I believe Natsuki!"

Kushina immediately expressed her support. "I'll choose him as my teammate!"

"You all train first. I'll go find Sensei."

Tsunade nodded slightly and said.

But in her heart, she did not think much of the Might Duy that Natsuki had mentioned.

However, this could not be blamed on her.

At this stage, taijutsu shinobi were undoubtedly looked down upon, or rather, questioned.

The reason was simple. Their weaknesses were too obvious.

Taijutsu shinobi fought in close combat.

Theoretically, other shinobi could kite them from a distance with ninjutsu until they died.

Aside from that, genjutsu shinobi countered them even harder. A single genjutsu could leave them unable to resist.

In short, the current shinobi world advocated shinobi who used both ninjutsu and taijutsu. They could focus on ninjutsu, but they could not focus only on taijutsu.

In fact, this disdain was not entirely unreasonable.

Among taijutsu shinobi, aside from Might Duy and Might Guy, there were barely any who could be called true experts.

As for non-taijutsu shinobi, there were many powerful figures.

"Natsuki, let me tell you some good news!"

After Tsunade left, Kushina said with a face full of smiles, "Half a month ago, I learned the Rasengan!"

"Very impressive."

Natsuki immediately praised her.

He was not surprised.

When Kushina and Nonō graduated, they had already completed most of their Rasengan training.

"What? You learned it?"

Nawaki immediately said, "I have to hurry up!"

"You're close too, but you definitely won't be faster than Nonō."

Natsuki chuckled and said.

The reason Nonō had not learned the Rasengan yet was because she had no time.

After graduating, she had been learning taijutsu the whole time.

When they went to the Land of Ame for the mission, she had even less time to learn.

But now that she had free time, she would probably learn it this month. No, this week.

As for Natsuki, he was also close and should be able to learn it this month.

When the Rasengan made its appearance in the Chunin Exams, it would surely surprise quite a few people.

Natsuki could take the opportunity to deepen his image as a creator-type shinobi.

However, he also had to learn five control-type ninjutsu.

Natsuki already had his targets.

He selected the five simplest control-type ninjutsu.

Three were genjutsu, namely the D-rank Hazy Servant Technique, and the C-rank Demonic Illusion: False Surroundings Technique and Sly Mind Affect Technique.

The other two were Water Release, the D-rank Water Release: Water Binding and the C-rank Water Release: Water Prison Technique.

Water Release: Water Prison Technique was a Water Release ninjutsu from Kirigakure, but Konoha also had it.

When Natsuki saw it yesterday in the ninjutsu storage room of the Hokage Building, he chose it.

These five control-type ninjutsu were, at the highest, only C-rank, so they were not difficult to learn.

Especially since his current level of Water Release chakra nature transformation was very high.

He would not need a month to learn these two Water Release techniques.

The three genjutsu would take longer, probably about a month.

While Natsuki and the others were training, Tsunade walked into the Hokage's Office.

"You came at the right time."

When Hiruzen saw Tsunade, he said, "Sunagakure has made a move."

"What move? Did they send people to negotiate peace with us?"

Tsunade raised an eyebrow and asked.

"No."

Hiruzen shook his head and said, "After Ebizō returned to Sunagakure, Sunagakure began mobilizing."

"It seems they are preparing to start a large-scale war with Konoha."

Tsunade understood as soon as she heard it.

What he meant by mobilizing was actually Sunagakure preparing war supplies and moving shinobi.

"I estimate that Sunagakure will officially use troops against us next month."

Hiruzen said in a deep voice, "After the Chunin Exams end, take a group of shinobi to support Orochimaru and Jiraiya."

Tsunade nodded.

After the Second Shinobi World War had reached this point, she had long known that becoming a battlefield commander was unavoidable.

After all, there were not many shinobi in Konoha who had both the strength and status to become battlefield commanders.

Excluding Hiruzen, Danzō, Koharu, and Homura, only the three of them and Sakumo remained.

As for Hiashi, Fugaku, and the others, they were still quite young, not yet twenty. Letting them serve as battlefield commanders might cause problems.

"Did you come here today for something?"

After Hiruzen finished explaining his arrangements, he asked.

"Kushina wants to take part in the Chunin Exams."

Tsunade nodded and said.

"If she wants to participate, that's fine."

After thinking for a moment, Hiruzen agreed. "I'll arrange two teammates for her."

"Natsuki recommended a teammate for Kushina, Might Duy."

Tsunade added.

"Might Duy?"

A somewhat subtle expression appeared on Hiruzen's face.

"You know him?"

Tsunade noticed his expression and asked curiously, "Is he strong? Why don't I have any impression of him?"

Geniuses were always famous.

For example, Natsuki and Namikaze Minato had already gained no small amount of fame while they were in the Ninja Academy.

But Might Duy. Tsunade truly did not remember such a Genin.

"He's a pure taijutsu shinobi. As for his strength, I can only say it's decent."

Hiruzen smiled and said, "It's just that his behavior is rather strange."

"Strange?"

Tsunade asked in confusion.

"He's always saying some incomprehensible declarations about youth."

Hiruzen sighed and said, "Because of that, no one is willing to team up with him."

"Is it that serious?"

Tsunade still could not quite understand.

"You'll understand once you meet him."

Hiruzen paused and asked, "Do you still intend to let him become Kushina's teammate?"

"This is Natsuki's recommendation, and Kushina agreed as well. Let him participate with her."

Tsunade thought for a moment and said.

"All right."

Hiruzen nodded slightly and said, "I'll send someone to notify him."

"I'll go first. If anything happens, send Anbu to find me."

Tsunade waved her hand and headed toward Konoha Hospital.

She wanted to test the poison obtained from Chiyo's son and daughter-in-law.

On a road near the northern edge of Konoha.

A young man wearing a green jumpsuit was running upside down on his hands.

Sweat slid down his face and dripped onto the ground, forming a trail, but he did not care at all.

"Hot-blooded youth cannot admit defeat here!"

The young man suddenly shouted, "Explode, my youth!"

A surge of strength welled up, making him move even faster.

Just then, a figure blocked his path, and he subconsciously stopped.

"Are you Might Duy?"

An Anbu shinobi wearing a mask asked.

"I am!"

Might Duy subconsciously answered.

"Hokage-sama wants you to take part in the Chunin Exams at the end of the month."

The Anbu shinobi informed him, "When the time comes, two teammates will be arranged for you."

"What? The Chunin Exams?"

Might Duy suddenly flipped upright with a kip-up.

He stared fixedly at the Anbu shinobi, his body trembling.

The Anbu shinobi subconsciously took half a step back.

"Has my youth finally been recognized by Hokage-sama?"

Might Duy stretched out both hands and clenched his fists. Then tears poured down his face as he shouted, "Wonderful! It is time for my youth to bloom!"

The Anbu shinobi stared at him crying bitterly and could not help being dumbfounded.

What was going on?

Was it necessary to be this excited just for participating in the Chunin Exams?

He could not understand.

After thinking about it, he still fled at the speed of light.

He kept feeling that this Might Duy looked very abnormal.

May soon reached its end.

Konoha welcomed a matter that was neither big nor small, the Chunin Exams.

Eight thirty in the morning.

Natsuki and the others arrived at the Ninja Academy on time.

The Chunin Exams not only had practical combat, but also a written exam.

The location of the written exam was set at the Ninja Academy.

When they arrived at the school gate, Natsuki and the others saw an unexpected figure, Orochimaru.

"Sensei!"

Nawaki immediately became excited and quickly ran forward. "Why are you back?"

"There's nothing much going on at the battlefield in the Land of Ame for now. Jiraiya staying there is already enough."

Orochimaru explained, "It just so happens that you're taking part in the Chunin Exams, so I came back to participate with you."

In the end, Tsunade was only temporarily managing the team and was not Team One's true leader.

After becoming Team One's team leader, he had not spent time with Team One either.

Whether emotionally or logically, he should come back once.

Actually, under normal circumstances, Natsuki, Nawaki, and Nonō should have been sent to the battlefield in the Land of Ame.

But Hiruzen and Tsunade both felt it was still too early, and that they should be allowed to grow more before going to an even more dangerous battlefield.
